There's something to be considered about popularity/population, I think.
I once heard a compelling argument which expounded on Dunbar's number as it relates to group bonds/bonding - It basically asserted that once a population grows past a certain point, bonds tend to became weaker, individuals tend to be regarded with less respect, less freedom tends to exist, and resources tend to become scarce.
Consider the example of a highway consisting of high traffic density vs low traffic density: In the scenario, the high traffic results in less freedom of movement and, consequently, more stress and less respect for other drivers (people) in general.
Another example could be a smaller city vs a suburb vs a major metropolitan city, the topic of unchecked immigration... Or hell, consider the country of China:
The population is so large that even human life is regarded as cheap. Consequently, resources are scarce, whereas people are not, and individuals tend to behave rudely towards each other (bumping into one another, etc.) - the argument given is that rudeness is simply unavoidable in such a situation. The limitation of freedom therein is, of course, very well-known and expanding on that is obviously unnecessary.
Just something that popped into my head while reading through this thread and thinking about what shitholes other forums, social media sites, etc. have become. Then again, I'm newbie poster here (long-time lurker) - so perhaps consider shitting on me for my possible hypocrisy.
