New game recommendations?

Brandon F

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Kirby:CC and BF2 were the last "recent" releases I have bought, and I know its been a slow summer, but I'm looking for something new to play.

I'm wary of Conker because the Live play sounds dumb, and I didn't love the original enough to replay with tighter visuals.

Atelier Iris I'm still clueless about(Alex?); and Riviera impressions have turned somewhat sour as of late.

Lytedge says I should play Tenchu 4, and I think that may be a solid bet.

Meteos...I dunno, not in the puzzler mood.

Killer 7....? Story sounds so wacky that I can possibly forgive gameplay foibles.

So go a little late to the party and get something like Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, God of War or Resident Evil 4 (if you don't already have 'em). Metal Slug 4+5 is also an awesome old school purchase.

He's already played RE4 and GoW, I know that.

Seriously, Stranger's Wrath might be a great choice. The game was excellent, yet mostly ignored. If you haven't played it yet, give it a try.

Killer 7 is another good bet if you want something truly bizarre.

Played em already. Oddworld being the exception as I am waiting for a lower price to commit. MS4+5 will be purchased on Xbox.

Have you ever played Trackmania Sunrise on the PC? I only recently got into that, and I must say, it's an absolute BLAST. There is a lot to do in the game proper, but the massive community really gives you a near endless supply of quality tracks. Racing, platforming, puzzles, and construction all in one package. The sense of speed and the amazing visuals really help too.

I'd like to find someone to play online with as well. :P

Trackmania does look nifty, but I had my eye on the console side of things.

Tenchu will likely get a purchase, and maybe Oddworld as well if I can find it for cheap. Killer 7 I assume will drop in price soon enough.

Ooh I forgot about Pirates...

Buy Meteos and Killer 7. Avoid the rest ;)

Pirates! is great as well.

Oh man, we had the most fun ever with Trackmania Sunrise at a LAN-party we went to last month. But for someway or another, it doesn't like my PC (P4(B) 2.4@2.6 - Radeon9800Pro @ XT Flash @ 432/750) I reckon it has something do to with the OC'ing, but my gear stays pretty cool (all rigged with Arctic Cooling stuff) -- But my system would restart all of a sudden or display weird graphical artifacts. The ones you get for pushing your system too hard. I don't get it with other graphic intense games though :/

A shame though, because I would have bought the game if it stayed stable

conker is horrendous. meteos is my favorite puzzle game ever, and briefly made me feel good about owning a ds. i have killer 7, but can't motivate myself to play it.

Just bought a DS myself, and the only game I have for it is Mario 64.

I figured my next game will be either Kirby, Meteos, or Wario Ware Touched.

Sounds like Meteos is the best of the bunch.

Atelier Iris, if you can stomache the same old RPG/Anime cliches in an albeit nicely done way.

Meteos because, it is in my opinion the best game on the DS and my new fav puzzler since Puzzle Fighter.

Killer 7 is just fucking insanity burned to a disc. As you said, you can be forgiving of gameplay or lack thereof... so get Killer 7. The story is well worth it. It's unlike anything else I've ever played in my life.

In a good way.

Actually I could give Psychonauts more time instead of letting it fizzle out as the brunt of some game forum joke at my expense.

Some would find it hard to believe that I have more interest in Tenchu 4...

Psychonauts gets really, really strong as you go along, I found (I thought it started out with a weak couple of first levels and really got that collect-a-thon feeling in the freeroaming bits).

Just don't get too bogged down tracking down and replaying levels for figments, or obsessively clearing out the outdoor areas right from the start and you'll have a good, this-game-won't-let-me-go time with it.

it is. it's wonderful. touched is a big let down for the series. beware.

Killer 7!

The story is so wacky and ivolving - because they give it to you so slowly - its really the main reason to keep chugging along.

Even though I wouldn't consider it "chugging" - with all the cursing, viloence, sex, and just random trippy crap, it has a lot of SHOCK value and "damn ive never seen this shit before" - which, by the way, I think is what all video games should do to you.

Killer 7

Yea, that is my first impression as well. I gave up early in(second major platforming level), and I was definately stroking my completist muscle which didn't help matters given how much there is to collect. I'm assuming I never have to worry about missed opportunities when it comes to that sort of thing? I'll stick to it.

I just reminded myself of Paper Mario 2 which has been frozen in hibernation for months now.

Oddworld is published by EA, so maybe you can go preOWNED and stick it to The Man.

WTF? Don't listen to this douche bag. Crap games.

On the other hand, I've heard nothing but good things about FlatOut. I suggest you go pick up FlatOut.

Brandon F, what games have you gotten this year? Well, out of your choices you listed I'd say Killer 7--story is whack, but at the end it comes together and it's really great.

There's a point near the end when the game saves as "POINT OF NO RETURN." After you go, then you can't return. But if you load from that point of no return savepoint, then you'll be able to go around and collect everything before you make the final plunge.

No new games purchased.

I spent around an hour tooling around further in Psychonauts and the hook has still yet to emerge. I am en route to earn the "Oarman's(?) Badge" and I just don't care... The giant boss on the rotating cube inside Nein's brain has been the only real highlight so far.

I'm now entrenched into my ongoing replay of Grandia 1 once again. It blows my mind that I once convinced myself this is a crap game.

I'm really liking Atelier Iris. It's very oldskool in its presentation, but it slowly adds some new systems into the mix, such as the weapon forging system and an item creation system. It's fairly similar to the Star Ocean systems, and I recall you being a fan of those games. The graphics are beautiful hi-res 2D, and the combat plays out in typical side-view turn based style, but it moves FAST. The music isn't too great and teh story is fairly cliche, those are my only complaints with it. Definitely worth picking up.

Yea, I did enjoy SO3, particularly the the item crafting stuff. I'll likely look into playing Atelier eventually. DDS2 hits end of this month however, and I'll probably make that my next RPG purchase.

I do plan to snag Meteos today though, I'm intrigued.

I still need to give Meteos a try...

I'm not a particularly big puzzle game fan, but I loved Lumines. However, a good portion of that love was the result of the music integration. Meteos just seems too fast paced and lacks any sort of worthwhile soundtrack...

I'm still interested, though, simply because it's Q?.

dark: I was reading some older impression threads about Meteos, trying to hype myself up, and what eventually sort of sold me was a link to a 1up.com game guide. It's filled with tips and stacking tricks complete with movies that illustrate everything the guide discusses. It definately paints a vivid picture of what to expect from this game. May not have the same effect on you, but I'm definately intrigued.
