New gameboy at E3......according to Spong.

"Revolution at E3 – Hardware Design Showing in Doubt
Iwata paranoia pulls machine? Full story inside.
18th Apr 2005

You may have been reading reports breaking over the last few days that talk of a withdrawal of Nintendo’s Revolution console at this year’s E3 show.

Nintendo has, from the very highest levels within the company, stated that it intends to show the Revolution, it’s next generation home gaming platform, at this May’s industry show and tell. Though if rumour is to be believed, this might not be the plan any more.

However, SPOnG firmly believes that there is little substance to stories currently doing the rounds right now. Although some news outlets quote ‘Japanese sources’ with some inside track, SPOnG can reveal that this is a somewhat disingenuous presentation of the root of current mutterings.

Indeed, these stories spring from gossip doing the rounds right now from sources as close to Nintendo as your mum. So let’s cut to the chase – what will be on show?

New Zelda. Lots of it. New DS stuff, lots of it, including a lot of non-gaming software with music and art packages slated. A new Game Boy. Yes, a new Game Boy. Exciting, huh? Mario 128, or whatever it’s going to be called. The Revolution will be shown in the form of an on-stage presentation. You get to see its games and what it looks like. It will probably keep some tricks hidden well within its sleeves with a playable appearance on the showfloor looking unlikely at best.

So does any of this spring from the paranoia of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata? Well, yes, of course it does. Nintendo isn’t stupid. It’s actually very clever. The Revolution hype train is at full steam right now. This is because Nintendo is about to launch a new games system and to date, no one knows anything about it.

The more Nintendo tells us, the more time we’ll spend playing our Xbox 360s and not caring as much. The Revolution will indeed be on show at this year’s E3, though it’s unlikely you’ll be playing it.

Nintendo has been telling us for some time now that touching is good. You have to remember that as far as keeping a dream alive is concerned, imagining is a lot better.

Stick with SPOnG for everything Nintendo on the run up to E3. "

I absolutely hate this type of thinking. I would much rather they would tell us what's going on instead of keeping everything a secret. (FFS, did they have to keep the shoulder clicks a secret? it certainly wasn't a big deal in many games I played and I don't think it's been copied)

See, if I was still a mod, this thread would've been moved by now and the topic starter liquidated.

Where's the news?
The point of the piece is that there is no 'new' news.
Loads of sites started running a load of tripe about Nintendo at E3. We just wanted to set the matter straight, or as straight as it can be right now.

Also, please don't post things verbatim. It's not really on. If you could edit, I'd appreciate it.
:)

None of this "Revolution No-Show" stuff is based on unstable Japan "rumors" like Spong claims. Reggie Fils-Aime specifically stated "This year's E3 is not Revolution's coming out party" at GDC.

The highest levels within the company are actually claiming that it won't be there. Iwata was at the show with him and could have corrected him, so I'd take his silence as a tacit confirmation as well.

No. That's what other sites claim. You tedious cock. Read.

I see they are still sticking to a new gameboy announcement, despite everyone and their mother - even Nintendo people like Reggie, saying otherwise. Gutsy. I guess it should finally earn them some credit if it's true, or get them banned from here forever if it's not.

hmm if Revolution wont have a strong focus on E3, but Mario128 will be shown. Which platform is it for then?

Well, if you believe Spong then Revolution games will be shown, so what's the problem if Mario 128 is a Revolution title?

Reggie meant that E3 isn't ALL about the Revolution. That quote has been misconstrued so much...

Revolution will be at E3.

If they put something out that can compete with the PSP, I will be excited. Otherwise, don't even bother Nintendo...just stick with your little DS handheld, I'll buy your games for it.

How does it mean that? Where have they clarified? "Coming out" is pretty much assumed to mean "unveiling"....

Before any wagers are made, we should define what exactly "new Game Boy" means, because I'm seeing 2 distinct possibilities...

-New Game Boy redesign (a la Game Boy Advance SP)
-New Game Boy platform (Game Boy Evolution or whatever)

...so which is it?

Yeah, but they've said plenty of times that Revolution will be there, they just haven't said in what form and to what degree. So saying it's not Revolution's coming out party is to dampen the enthusiasm a bit so people won't be disappointed when it's not a full blow out.

According to everyone at every level in Nintendo, GameCube.
Of course shifting it to another platform is the same as saying "Don't buy our doomed console! Even we're not supporting it now!"

I would say that is the plan exactly.

Let's make a wager. I say that there won't be a new Gameboy at E3.
On a second thought - don't bother. If it's a no-show they will just run a 'rumor' that it was shown "behind the closed door" to "selected members of the press".

Banning for a month.

If someone from NIntendo is actually holding a new handheld in their hands, and games are shown for it (video or demo form), then I lose.

If not, I win.

Bingo. Take notes, border.

This will be interesting to follow :)

You guys realize that you're part of the same obligation, right? I should have specified that more clearly.

eh certainly not. I am not accepting something like this.

Well what's the fun of a bet unless something's at stake on both sides? You seemed so sure of yourself a second ago.

No it's E3 and I would never take any bet at that event. I thought it was about you only. I would never risk being banned at E3. You should have clarified that earlier.

How about this? Winner makes the loser an avatar that they must wear for a week. Seems reasonable, or you come up with your own stipulation.

Predictions:

A bit weaker hardware-wise than PSP, no mp3 or movie-support.

Not backwards compatible with GBA.

Weak third party support with "dream-team" as an alternative.

WIN

Nintendo will probably only show the hardware and probably specs. What Reggie probably meant was that It won't be playable(and other features kept under wraps), without any games announced.

That's a much better idea. I can agree on this deal as long it doesn't have any bannings at stake.

Done. No bannings at stake. Just your pride for a week. Everyone feel free to jump in. I make the avatar for my side, SantaCruzer makes the avatar for his.

Folder, you're a great guy.

Now where's that RE4 Xbox annouincement.

You owe me your wife for being wrong. Just tell her I throw a great Nintendo party, and I'm sure she'll come willingly.

Fucking Resi 4 Xbox!
I'll not go over all of that again.
As for the wife, she'll be round with her ready-tuned Mario Party mic if there's nothing after the show.
I like the idea of the avatar challenge!
This place is soooo gay/awesome :)
