New? Gamepro X360 Reviews (PGR 3 & COD 2)

Seriously. What the hell looks better than PGR3 right now?!

If they start handing out straight 5s, 10s, etc to next-gen games across the board now how the hell are they gonna review 360 games that come out in two years? Obviously compared to current gen, most next gen things should be a perfect score but it looks like they are reserving space for future use. :P

WHATS A GUY GOTTA DO TO GET A 5 IN GRAPHICS OVER HERE

It's all relative to just Xbox 360 stuff. Judging by the scores, the Xbox 360 still has a lot more/better performance under the hood.

I thought games are supposed to be judged by how they stack up to the competition? Right? or wrong?

That's idiotic to review based on what's YET TO COME OUT. The game came out this week; review based on the current market. Fuck, it should get a 2.5 if we're taking every fucking game for the entire next gen into consideration.

There is a flaw with that reason since games have always been reviewed for the time period for which it was released. It's a pinpoint of where it stands. If we did such things, than that's as abitary as reviewing the merits of the gameplay/visual integrity with using a yet to be released product. Scoring graphics have always adjusted over time when we have more better examples, but it hasn't gone that far yet. Why is it different this time? It's like I would be scoring Soul Calibur 1 thinking of something further off like Soul Calibur 3 for a visual reference.

The problems is when people take scores too literaly despite they are scored at when it was released and it's impact is much more hard felt. A 9, 10 in visuals in 2004/5 is different than a 9,10 1999/2000. It's the market of the time that's dependent for reference, not on things that are yet to come!!

They're not reviewing games based on what's yet to come. That's impossible. To my knowledge, their reviews are based on the total output of the system (graphics-wise), why it's easy to assume (based on this review) that PGR3 doesn't take full advantage of the Xbox 360's hardware.

I dunno. :)

That's pretty iffy, cause visually amoung the games on X360 being released PGR3 is the best looking of the bunch, it seems like it's taking as much advantage as possible for the time being.

I agree. I'm just going off of what the editors used to say about their reviews and stuff a while back.

HELLO- Its also idiotic to review a game based on the LAST GENERATION. Are portables reviewed graphically the same was as consoled? Of course not. The scale is a relative scale, based exclusively on that system itself and its capabilities. Granted, this is now basically a judgement call, since so little is out. But Please tell me how much sense it makes to compare 5 year old hardware to just released hardware?

Standards are higher, as they should be. This is newly released hardware, and for better or for worse, there are certain expectations.

What you're proposing is childish and ludicrous.

Good question! I dunno - perhaps make it 60fps AND 720p?
The review wasn't complaining about those things, it was complaining about the lack of pedestrian cars and the metropolitan setting.

Oh, I was just joking! Those are legitimate complaints - but really, people are taking these scores too seriously. I've loved LCS, Mario Kart, Kameo and PGR scores threads! :)

Where did they want pedestrian cars? Isnt that an oxymoron? ...and what is wrong with the metro setting?

Did anyone read the review?

However, it would have been nice to see some of that hardware muscle focused on decorating the cityscape; moving and parked cars, pedestrians and other clutter you'd expect in a bustling metropolis are surprisingly lacking.

Let's disect this.

"moving cars"

PGR3 needs to be more like midtown madness.

"parked cars"

It's not enough that most of us hit every guardrail in the game, we also need to hit "parked cars".

"pedestrians"

It's not enough that the game features fully modeled spectators that react! PGR3 needs mothers wheeling their baby carriages, people walking their dogs and slum raised vermen running the streets with stolen old ladies pocketbooks in tow.

"other clutter"

Trash cans have clutter. Maybe the game needs more trash cans?

IIRC PGR2 featured clutter. Maybe this feature was cut due to time restraints?

That's absolutely stupid.

It is seriously disturbing to me that some of you ACTUALLY READ these gamepro reviews.

Look at the scores, wonder how they could be so completely off base, leave thread. I feel dirty just posting twice in this thread. (see post #2)
