New GR3 Screens

My comment was in response to somebody tired of hearing my opinion.
I want to add that I am impressed by some X360 titles like Gears of War and Call of Duty 2. Those show a lot of promise.

One week ago you said GR3 is amazing looking. That of course was the Xbox 360 version and not the PC version though... So you are right the screenshots posted here minux the two xbox 360 ones are weak compared to the Xbox 360 version, but still impressive IMO. Also one thing we should not forget is that PC hardware allways evolve and is one of the reasons of why we might not be very impressed by nextgen hardware.. We are simple put used to pc graphics that continously evolve.

I only comment on latest screens and vids when talking about a game. As far as I can tell that's how the game will look. Some games see upgrades and some see downgrades, so if it looks better or worse than the last batch I don't dismiss them.

The video of GR3 at E3 was very nice, but I still had my problems with it.

I don't know what people's definition of next gen is. Can a pc have "next gen" games? If not why not. PCs are constantly evolving and they eventually outstrip what consoles can do. Is UT2007 next gen? Its coming out for the pc along with next gen consoles so does that disqualify it as being next gen?

Next-gen SHOULD BE something not possible on current generation PCs.

Something I look at and say "No way my PC can do this".

Something that will be possible on my PC after I upgrade it with a video card that doesn't even exist yet.

And what's the situation right now?

GR3, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4 etc. are all coming to the PC. If your PC can handle HL2 or BF2 I'm sure it'll be able to play those games as well.

For us, PC first console second gamers, there's no next gen magic in that.

There's no "next-gen" term in the PC world - it has been coined for the console world. UT2K7 isn't a next-gen PC title - you will be able to run it on 6800 cards, it's just the "next" Unreal Tourney while Gears of War is a next-gen console title cause it won't run on Xbox 1.
Call of Duty 2 isn't a next-gen game - it's just a sequel to CoD.
Is BF2 next-gen?

See? Pretty stupid to use console terms in the PC world.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I just hope PS3 has more and better exlcusives, but from the whole nVidia/ EPIC teaming it seems we will see even more PC games coming to PS3...

I don't see how any of this is stupid. Like somebody said, current PCs can handle games like this with no problem. When a new generation of consoles come along I expect a leap. Gears of War provides that. GR3 does not.

The leap from SC1 to GR3 is not a big one.
And I'm tired of eveybody being impressed, what's your point?

"STOP BEING IMPRESSED! You Must Not be PHAZED!...NOTHING IS GOOD ENOUGH...NOTHING!.....I AM TEH ELITE!"

I don't know why some of you are acting so surprised as you keep reading stupid shit Oli says over and over. It's like sniffing an asshole and acting all surprised that it smells like shit.

I haven't had enough exposure to Oli to know much about him.

You are the George Lucas of videogame message boards

The developers have stated that characters in GR3 are composed of around 20,000 polygons. They've also stated that they put 32 on screen at once. What PC games are you playing? This looks considerably better than Battlefield 2, which looks fantastic in it's own right.

This is the jump that sold me on this generation, but I haven't been impressed by any jumps but motocross ps3 and killzone ps3.

I guess I just expect too much. I'll see how the 360 is at launch.

You're an idiot. I cant believe theres people who still think those videos $ony showed are actually real time.

I don't understand the hype of the ghost reacon games. The first one was allright, but it had so many flaws that it just wasn't fun. You couldn't even jump over a 20 centimeter high wall, wtf? I never played the 2nd, but I remember it got some pretty bad reviews.

edit: that said, I don't mean to bash 360 at all. I mean gears of war and Elder Scrolls 4 has me excited.

I don't think they are real time, but that's more of what I expected next gen to look like.

You know what I find ironic about Oli's quote on Rogue Squadron selling him on this generation? Look at the Hoth level in Shadows of the Empire for N64 and compare it to the Hoth level in RS for GCN. You won't see a "big" leap in graphics. :lol :lol :lol

Bullshit you won't see a huge leap. The textures in the GCN version are disturbingly sharp, there's self shadowing, a ton of high poly models on screen, etc...

Em, the GC and Xbox versions were worlds apart

Bloom lighting is going to be the cell-shading of next-gen. I just hope the fad dies faster because this unrealistic lighting is really starting to piss me off.

I don't think the leap that you're expecting is possible graphically because of that dirty word "diminishing returns" but I think what next gen can really enhance is animation, canned and physically modeled. For example, if people had just seen a screenshot of killzone and someone claimed it was coming for the 360, people would be bitchin about poor textures, non-realistic models, bad color palette, jaggies etc. In fact GOW looks better in screenshots than killzone. But if you see it in motion with all the scripted events then you think "wow, this more impressive than GOW." Animation will be key to defining the next gen whereas previously it was graphic quality that got the biggest booth.

Couldn' find a good SOTE picture so I got one from RS for N64:

How? The N64 -> Rogue Leader leap is bigger than the Riddick -> Gears of War leap.
It's just my view. I'm less impressed with the leap from this gen to the next than I was with the leap from the n64 to this gen.

Yeah I agree with Olimario, the leap from our current gen to the next isn't nearly as impressive as it was last time.

Of course, that's all I'm saying. I'd rather not troll every fucking 360 thread :lol

Also Oli, keep in mind that this is Xbox -> Xbox 360. So pretty much the last system of the current gen to come out (along with GameCube) to the first system of the next generation.

Wait a year for next-gen to *really* get going.

EDIT: And anyone saying that SOTE and Rogue Leader aren't very different is smokin' something powerful...

Ok, this was retarded enough to made me fire up the kit.

SC framebuffer screenshots

sc_cap2.jpg

sc_cap3.jpg

As pretty as SC is, there is a hugue leap in everything. Lightning, polygons, textures and resolution are much better, not talking about extra features as FSAA. Comparing SC with GR3 is a fucking joke and anybody with a functioning brain should be able to tell it.

EDIT: And anyone saying that SOTE and Rogue Leader aren't very different is smokin' something powerful...
That too.

Seriously, I don't really know if I want to be over here when next gen kicks it in full force, GAF is going to be the internet's toilet by the time X360 gets released and I don't even want to think about PS3 and Rev.

These are the PC screens. 4:3 and all.....

I don't expect the X360 screens to be that different from this.

The PC GR3 uses a totally different engine IIRC....

X360 GR3 uses the YETI engine........

I am getting an X360 for this game :D

EDIT: And anyone saying that SOTE and Rogue Leader aren't very different is smokin' something powerful...

Uhhh, that wasn't the point. The point was to compare those Rogue Squadron pictures from N64 to GCN to GR3 being done on Xbox.

BTW, characters in GR3 have 20K polys, ten time that of GR2 which has 2000 polys for the characters...

Also, GR3 can have up to 32 enemies on screen at once (dunno if they will also have 20K polys or not though..)

This game look AWESOME to me....

X360 launch is all about PRG3 and GR3 in my opinion :)

I also have faith in Perfect Dark Zero...

Sue me...

I have a feeling MS is going to totally pull a 360/2 on us regarding PD.

Well - they damn well better at least. :D

Are you aware that you just described the leap we are experiencing in this generation?

There was no PC version for the 2nd. And the Xbox version got great reviews. So you must have been looking at the GC reviews.... a version which was... a world apart.
