New great show just dropped: Robyn Hood

A hip-hop music video director trying and failing to make a movie or TV show... where have I heard this tale before...

This feels like someone played Watch Dogs Legion and Hyenas, and said 'how can we make both into a TV show?'

The premise looks just dumb enough and just ridiculous enough to be entertaining if they even remotely pull it off.

On a side note I've never heard of Global TV, nor Director X, nor this show, until this thread. It leaves me to believe that this was either an advertisement by the OP, or an attempt to rile up people here who don't like this type of content, or both.

Edit: Before anyone else quotes me about Director X, keep scrolling down.

I think he mostly does rap music videos

Alright, I looked up Director X and I didn't realize he was the guy who made the 2018 SuperFly movie. That movie was a surprisingly fun watch for a B film and had a surprisingly stacked cast including Michael K. Williams(Omar) from the Wire. It would fit right in with some of the black gangster movies of the 90s and 2000s.

Direction wise, however? SuperFly was just okay. Nothing standout aside from a few odd choices in angles and a few odd framerate scenes. It did have a memorable quote: "It doesn't matter if you're smart in a world full of stupid people" which fit with the tone of a guy trying to stay more anonymous while navigating a gangster world in Atlanta, with those around him constantly trying to show off and be flashy with guns and money.

I'll give this Robyn Hood show an honest shot, but the trailer and music choice isn't really doing it many favors.

I feel for people who don't love janky productions starring color-coded superheroes

Robbers who rap about their crimes ... isnt that all rap music (dont kill me I like hiphop).

The crap out now by the folks the MASSES like is barely "hip hop"... It's just rap.

Even then, most of these rappers haven't done anything criminal... Except for a few idiots. They just APPEAR criminal.

I hate how "crime" has become synonymous with rap these days... Even during the Gangsta Rap days, none of them were actual criminals (NWA and the like)... They just rapped about what they saw in their environment...

Global is one of the tv channels in Canada

Director X getting a TV show sounds like a punchline on its own.
Seen enough of his music videos to know that it'll probably be any of the following,
+Full of awkward slow motion shots of nothing
+ Nonsensical in the concept or storyline department
+Shot on an expensive set while still managing to look cheap.
+Or just boring.

Maybe he's improved, or maybe people will realised that he's over hyped, I don't know. Has anyone seen the show?
Is it anything like his music videos

Looks like it could be kinda fun if it isn't shit. It's weird that my mind rebels against people robbing from the rich to give to the poor in present day but it seems reasonable and just in the past. Maybe it's the stakes, being able to feed your kids versus living a more comfortable life. Or maybe it's because the true rich are basically untouchable in modern day, stealing an Amazon truck, hell stealing a 100, isn't going to even be related to Bezos.
That or I am just not so subtly indoctrinated to think 'won't someone think of the billionaires'

This take is also a bit out of date.

The top artists in rap right now are all either about being conscious, being nerdy, being flashy/catchy, sing and rap, or they do emo rap.

I’m not saying there aren’t any popular gangster rappers out right now, but their numbers have vastly dwindled in the past 10 years. A lot of the guys people hated during the last decade(the idiots you’re describing) are either in jail, dead, or dead career wise.

(I also like keeping up with the genre as it’s interesting to me).

It's not that simple, the definition of rich before was mainly about going after the corrupt ruling class screwing everyone else over.
The way it's is now, in this show telling from the villain, is about stealing from the whites to give to the non-whites (or "POCs" as they love to call us).

People who were never slaves, demanding reparations from people who never owned slaves
