I just try to lay it out like that because the "being gay is a choice" thing was always weird to me, as the idea of... CHOOSING, to get boners for dudes.. doesn't make sense.

In no way am I an expert in any of this but how would this explain homosexuality in natural settings among wild life. My understanding, as limited as it is, is that it’s common? I could easily be wrong or confused as I know little of this subject though and would appreciate someone setting me up with some data.

Oh, there's no doubt some sort of genetic component to it, but it seems like it's a whole mixture of different elements that combine in a way we don't quite understand yet. One thing's for sure, homosexuality is a perfectly natural thing, despite what the religious would have people believe.

It's not uncommon in cultures where people get killed for being gay. A lot more people will of course be out of the closet where it's celebrated though.

I mean in the end it just means for a dude, that you get boners for dudes. I am unsure how anyone can believe that is some choice for people, and I certainly don't know how it could be fully a "nurture" (vs nature) scenario where you aren't "born gay" but are somehow made gay by some random variables in your life.
To me, sexual orientation can only be forced upon someone so much. Like maybe 2% got pressured into one side it as a kid and it stuck (I made up a number for sake of argument). The other 98% just know and feel what they want from the get go whether they are straight or gay or any other choice. You just know what you like and thats that.

Then again, maybe if growing up as a kid, if my parents and siblings all rammed Chip N Dale posters in my face and kept pressuring me Tom Selleck is a great looking guy to marry, maybe I'd be gay. But I get a feeling it wouldnt work, and I'd just change the channel to watching hot Betsy Russell in her 80s rom coms with her nice jugs.

Never followed Ice T's career, but anytime I see him in something, he's hilarious. And it's not meant to be.

He's also in a bunch of car insurance ads which are big laughs too. He's trying to be serious about car payments and financial burden, but it comes off funny.
That's from Law and Order SVU, which is the only thing he's ever been really known for since his 80s rap days.

He's actually always been fine in it, but the memes about his character are also kind of on point.

My favorite meme of all time lol

We know people who are gay can be coerced in to living a heterosexual life (caused by religious and social forces). So why can't the opposite happen? Especially if those stating they are LGBT are put on a pedestal and done so while the mind is still forming and doesn't even fully understand the gravity of these things?

Because if I love women, no amount of coercion would make me want another penis anywhere near my naked body.

And those gay/lesbian folks are in the closet because coming out would alienate them from family, be kicked out of the house, sexually assaulted, killed... Like what happened in Boys Don't Cry... Stuff like that DOES happen if someone comes out to their family members as gay, lesbian or trans.

Here's an article that seems to bring up some animal kingdom studies and it's not really there. Animals studied as a whole, it's there in limited fashion.

For humans, not only does it seem common, but I think a key difference is that it's pushed and celebrated like being gay is some kind of lifetime achievement. I highly doubt in other creature's more primitive lives, they go out of their way to promote being LBTQ even if some of them in a group are, while the rest arent.

I read a study once that linked homosexuality to stress during pregnancy. It was thought that all the craziness during WWII played a role. In terms of nature, well, a hole is a hole, but homosexual relationships seems kind of rare

I think we can agree that gay folk should be allowed to live their lives in piece AND that children should not be given hormone blockers and irreversible genital mutilation surgery. These two ideals are not mutually exclusive no matter how much either sides extremes tries to make them.

That kind of messaging directed at children does real harm.

"Hey kid, see this character we made you like, that you identify with, that you feel sorry for? Well, he feels disgust and discomfort with the reality of his body. Do you ever feel disgusted in your own body? Distressed? Dysphoric? Maybe that means you should start down a path that rapidly comes to define your whole identity, and that nearly always leads to radical medicalization. By the way, are you scared of puberty? Where your whole body will change in uncomfortable ways, you'll start bleeding from your private parts at least once a month? Does that thought make you feel uncomfortable? Persistently? Well, did you know we can give you some medicine that just stops all that? For years and years if you want? Sure, it might sterilize you and we don't really know what it does to brain development, but you're mature enough to know if you want to have kids someday, right?"

Queer activists will insist it's not like that, because they have a dogmatic belief that nobody is ever persuaded to go down this path unless they were already truly deeply trans to begin with. But I think we're past the point now where most people can be fooled about this.

Regardless of what leeway we should extend to adults, this sort of messaging directed at children is deeply irresponsible.

I'm honestly curious what how you think something like that should be included to not feel forced or is it you just think it shouldn't exist at all in media?
the answer is pretty simple. but it requires a little bit of context:

The first time I remember hearing about people complaining about something in media (in the current context of DEI/woke. but it wasn't framed that way at the time tho) was with Mad Max: Fury Road. Some people were saying that Furiosa was the actual protagonist and that Max was relegated or something along those lines. I was like: "That thought never crossed my mind". I not only enjoyed the film, but it is also one of my favorites, and I think it’s a masterpiece.

Ok, then there was a weird drama around Star Wars and the: "Force is Female". like a deliberate effort from executives to make Star Wars more "diverse and inclusive". I was like: "that's odd". it felt contradictory or hypocritical, like: "Let's be more inclusive by being exclusionary to a male audience". Then there was massive drama around the Last Jedi. It was not only from the content of the movie but the stance of the director against fans.

There was the drama with Anita Sarkeesian and Gamergate. After that, some fringe comments started to emerge about developers "making women ugly", as well as the controversy surrounding The Last of Us 2. Additionally, global events like the PRIDE parade and brands changing their logo to the rainbow one became more prevalent.

after the pandemic; the discourse got worse.

Why is this context important? Because the entertainment media often portrayed any criticism as coming from toxic fans, racists, transphobes, bigots, etcetera. while insisting that no one was pushing an agenda and that diversity, inclusion, and representation reflected how the world truly is.

Well, it wasn't until this year (a couple of weeks ago, in fact) that I actually became "woke" to the fact that there is an actual agenda, and organizations are actively pushing this ideology. i was not actively searching for it, it was a YT channel run by a Vtuber who reads DEI documentation and presentations. After that, the Sweet Baby drama (and all the BS around it) has been recontextualized.

Im a 90s kid, i only knew Queen for my dad. I remember, maybe in the early mid-2010 searching music videos on YT and I saw this:

I distinctly remember thinking: Wow, this is super gay. and I asked my dad. Did people know Freddy was gay? (because in my mind Freddy was like a macho-man). One of my favorite songs from queen is "Its a Hard Life" And Innuendo as an album to me is one of the most profound and deep, meaningful pieces of art ever created. As a non-English speaker, is very common to use song lyrics to learn and practice English...So, imagine reading the lyrics of many queen songs for the first time and being blown away by their craftsmanship and depth.

so, what is the point? several actually:

1. Did I need to be gay to put myself in some of the lyrics and understand maybe where they were coming from?
2. Did Freddie need DEI to become successful?
3. Did Freddie need the media to tackle his sexuality to understand his own, or to feel "seen and loved"?

Of course not. Because it's not about anyone's sexuality, race, ideology/beliefs, or any other label that society may place or someone chooses to put on themselves. it's about the human condition, and that is universal. What I'm saying with this is that all these people with flags and pronouns in their bio, who see their sexuality, race, and ideology as their whole identity are pathetic at best or have mental issues at worst.

Now, answering your question:

The entertainment business is in constant struggle between art and business. Creative people may be driven by passion, while the executives's job is to identify talent and make the business aspect work. There are countless stories of these struggles across all kinds of media and art.

LGBTQ/"diversity" representation and success have been achieved organically over the years by people in those groups.

THIS IS NOT
what is happening with woke media. The difference between genuine and woke is that the former comes from individuals, while the latter comes from mandates

In this video, you can see that these people are not artists or creators; they are executives and producers. With DEI hiring processes, ideologues are placed in positions of creative power, resulting in manufactured media aimed at delivering stipulated narratives. This serves as public-facing PR to appear inclusive and representative, while internally trying to create a different demographic to increase profits (or so is what these investment and consultant companies argument is)

so, what i am saying?

To create something, anything; it should be driven by passion and the creative process, not by a checklist of conditions imposed by investment firms or consultants.

In the specific case of LGBTQ+, we are talking about a sexuality issue that tends to create the most conflict in the late teens and early twenties (at the earliest)... for obvious reasons
1. Disney/Pixar´s brand is not about that.
2. There is media that is aimed to address these topics. for example: HBO´s Euphoria.

What has been happening over the last decade (more aggressively since 2020) is the institutionalized push of these agendas, rather than their being a natural byproduct of the diversity inherent in society, with these individuals finding success in entertainment like anyone else. The result is bullshit media that feels contrived and ultimately helps no one.

Could be. You never know.

Maybe it can also be caused by all the weird food, chemicals and meds taken the past 50+ years. Why is it that all of us who are a bit older and grew up in the 80s as a kid and then high school and university later on had almost no students with food allergies (esp. deathly lethal ones)? I think I knew a couple throughout K to grade 13 with mild stuff. I didnt know one kid growing up with a lethal peanut allergy with the thing you jam in your leg if you eat a peanut. And I grew up going to public schools with mixed races and immigrants. Didnt matter. We all seemed fine eating anything. But past 20 years or so, suddenly shitloads of kids have food allergies out of nowhere. Maybe it also affects a person's sexual orientation. If parents eating all this crap food and meds, maybe it leads to kids whose biology has sexual orientation juggling, just like food issues.

Oh god I started laughing so hard and my wife is life "wtf is so funny; share!" and I'm like "I can't even begin to explain it"
If someone told me the Wayan brothers did the scene in White Chicks, I'd believe it.

If someone said it's from a crime show on prime time TV, I'd bet my bank account thats impossible.

I would had lost.

I like how the end of clip, the music sounds like a horror movie. lol

This argument again? People are much more sick now! Not really - we are better at diagnosing. Early 90s murder rates were down, Freakonomics linked it to abortion 20 years before. You know what really happened? Doctors got better at saving shooting victims.
Homosexuality is well documented for example during the Roman Empire. I don’t think people back then were eating modern crap and medicating with Zanax.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Non-LGBT kids aren't going to have their minds melted being exposed to these groups along side straight sexuality.

I do believe that sexual orientation is genetic. I can't believe people here are actually arguing it's a choice.
But at the same time, children are very malleable and go to various phases and emotions in life. Especially the fact that they're malleable should be the reason to be very cautious on what you expose them to. I'm not sure to how prevalent it is, but there have been reporting of regrets after transitioning due to the person thinking transitioning to another gender was what they needed/ who they were while they were essentially gay.

In other words, if children speak out about their feelings of liking a person of the same gender (mind you, this is also normal for various stages of young hetero people), then we shouldn't mold them into believing they must be gay or they must be a person in the wrong body. It simply doesn't belong in a kids show.

Purposely seeking certain demographics for a VO role is among the dumbest things I've ever heard. As long as the VO person is really good it can be anyone. At least for jobs where customers see them in person there can be a physical aspect that helps (ie. good looking servers, or a male role needs a male to do it etc...)

That's like saying everyone who works at a non-customer facing job (the CSR telephone rep or anyone at the office or warehouse who never interacts with end consumers) has to be Mexican if the company sells Mexican products.
The wokes forgot what a fucking actor does for a living...they act like something they are not.

But no, today you need the voice actor to have the same race, skin color, sex orientation as the character they are impersonating.

Even more strange when you think that the wokes usually lie about what they are on a daily bases so they should know better.
