New GTA V previews

lazlow will always be in it :D his voice is so soothing

when i was playing gta4 i was thinking about gtaV. i thought it'd be funny if you stole a completely crappy hunk of junk beat up car, you'd drive along and when you try to stop it, there would be no brakes, lol.

it'd be cool , i think , if some cars randomly had no brakes :p spice things up, especially if you're at top speed going round a hairpin bend on a mountain and you realize at the last minute you have no brakes

bail bail bail!! xD

Yes, the voice-actor is still the same. Its basically like Kojima would sell the MGS franchise and they made a simple shooter out of it. Perhaps you would still be playing as Snake but the soul is gone.

I'm just bitter at what happened to Max Payne 3 because i loved first two. It's still a pretty good game but just takes a big dump on what Max Payne used to be.

I dunno, it's not like they changed the basic formula a huge amount. It's a straight up shooter with an intriguing story (at least IMO), with a lot of focus on Max's personal issues. Though I did miss the nightmare sequences from the other games.

Nightmare sequences were cool for sure. I enjoyed how they went back to the original setting for the sequence w/ Max being recruited and subsequently having a gun battle w/ the Italians.

Yeah, I believe that when I play it for myself. This is Rockstar we're talking about.

God, I hope that's true. They definitely showed how much better they are with PS3 hardware with the surprisingly great Max Payne 3 port.

Also, I hope they let us have every gun in the game at once, and let us swap through via the weapon wheel like in Red Dead.

The frame rate is the real good news to me, hopefully that stays true when released.

Bad graphics you can get over ( not that V will have bad graphics) , framerate will always annoy me.

Weapon wheel is great news, so much better.

A little disappointed about no Speedometer since I love stuff like that but nothing serious.

Nice to see the little detail like rats

Can't wait.

What soul is gone? It isn't set in the same situation as the previous two. I think this take is more realistic than the previous 2 games actually; I loved it.

Max Payne 2 had some of the best storytelling and dialogue conceived in a videogame. Writing is completely off in MP3 it feels dumb and clueless and it wants to be clever like MP2 but fails to be.

Eh, we all have opinions. ;) I enjoyed the story, setting for MP3.

YMMV, I suppose. I liked how 3 was all about Max's inner turmoil, even if it came at the expense of interesting villains (Becker and Victor had nothing on Vlad).

Why put the ammo count so separated up there and not near the health bar?

Weapons can not be used whilst parachuting
Fuck :(

The camera angle was different to RDR and IV, it wasn't as close to the protagonist but not too far away
Hopefully there are multiple choices like in GTAIV

Framerate was smooth and stayed at 30 FPS all through the demo
Good to know.

The graphics looked as good as Red Dead Redemption but weren't as good as seen in the trailer.
Bad to know.
Maybe the trailers are from the 360 version.

We need to carefully choose where we put our getaway vehicle (they put it under the bridge) since pedestrians could take a picture of suspect vehicle and cause problems for us.
Yeah right, listen these type of things are always bullshit, so i'll believe it when i see it.

Los Santos' small details include rats seen scurrying on the streets
Godlike.
Hopefully cats are in, too.

The mission he saw (Van Heist from the recent trailers) was very cinematic and contained one long intro cutscene and 2 or 3 smaller cutscenes.
Yeah i don't expect nearly as much freedom as they claim, in preparing the missions.

Tried to do a search and couldn't find anything. Cannot start a new thread so wanted to post in this one.

Did anyone else sign up to be a part of The Epsilon Program that Rockstar had on their site? They asked for your information about social networking. I just received an email saying that my application to attend a Los Santos Enlightenment Seminar is presently being considered. Anyone else receive that?

Here is a link to the site for it. The application period has expired but it explains it better.

I got that email, too.

you better be able to choose your camera angle like in GTAIV... i was REALLY bummed you couldn't in RDR, the camera was always too far away (except when aiming but who the hell wants to walk around aiming all the time) and i felt like i was controlling a toy soldier or something :( i need to have the camera closer for better immersion. helps with gameplay too for me, since i can see details better (like weapons on the ground) if the camera isn't floating too far away from the main character.

seriously, if i can't change camera angle while on foot it can't be a 10/10 game for me.

I've played GTA IV so many times, but I didn't figure this out until recently and it blew my mind:

There are two separate camera settings. One is for when you're just walking, and the other for when you've got your weapon drawn. Each one has their own set of near/medium/far modes to toggle through. e.g. you can set it so that the camera zooms OUT instead of in when you aim. Not that you'd want that, but still!

Yeah, having the camera zoomed out when aiming was a Godsend.

I STILL haven't played Red Dead Redemption. :( I guess I'm afraid if it controls like GTA IV and with lock-on targeting.

I just finished playing both of the GTA IV episodes and now I've just started replaying RDR and the controls are a massive improvement. The one hold over issue controlwise that I have is the lack of analog movement and the need to tap a button to run.

Yeah because GTA4 on 360 had better graphic. sorry but lol.

Demoed on PS3 ?? YES!! That means its the better version right?? RIGHT???

I think RDR was demoed on PS3 also, but the 360 version was still slightly better. Hopefully things are closer now, but I'm still going with 360 as it's usually the safer option unless the game was designed primarily for the PS3 like FF13 and LA Noire.

it has just more pixel in better but with worse AF & awful dithering artifacts. Better graphic it means better graphic features, I don't see it, a part the res of course. But honestly I don't notice great improvement.

The only thing worse i remember was the dithering.
Performance was better on 360, AA and resolution, too.

Then if you consider that RDR was also better looking on 360, with ps3 having half the grass on screen, terrible texture filtering and in general lower resolution, and Max Payne 3, while very very similar, was also missing some alpha textures (some grass, IIRC) meaningless stuff, but it leads me to think that the 360 version may still look a bit better than the ps3 one.

I think RDR had the biggest gap.

Also LA Noire was better on ps3, but that wasn't running on RAGE.

Yes, please tell me the amped HD650s I was using at the times weren't up for the job. Stop this desperate shit like I was sitting in a damp washroom with my $25 logitech headphones playing it at 3FPS on a 10" monitor. Atmosphere and immersion are two terms that go hand in hand, for either to be true the other has to be present -- A linear TPS that is riddled with unskippable cutscenes and a wildly varying soundtrack just doesn't ooze either of them. I didn't say it was void of 'atmosphere' but putting it ABOVE RDR is mind-boggling.

And I say again, our definition of atmosphere in games must differ.

I disagree with this. Well done atmosphere can ENHANCE immersion, but I don't think it necessarily depends on it. Hell, there are some people that can go years and years playing videogames without ever experiencing "immersion" with a virtual world, yet can still call a particular game atmospheric. Max Payne has a different kind of atmosphere vs. something like RDR, or even Max Payne 2, but it's there. The club scene in the beginning, the favela UFE raids, the destroyed hotel, the NJ cemetery chapter, the 80s-esque yacht party + aftermath; I'd say they more than accomplished making those areas of the game feel distinct, moody, and "lived in" with their different aesthetic, music, and tonal excecution. A game being linear or "riddled with unskippable cutscenes" doesn't detract from its atmosphere. Those things can detract from the immersion, but again, I feel a game being "atmospheric" or "immersive" are 2 different qualities.

I don't know anything about the technical aspects between the two versions, and I don't really care. All I care about is what I see with my own eyes. And what I see with my own eyes, as someone who owns both console versions of GTA IV, is that the 360 version looks better. The PS3 version looked muddier. Character faces appeared to use less polys. Sunrises and sunsets looked beautiful and natural on 360. On PS3, it looked like someone sprayed orange juice on everything.

LA Noire looked better to me on 360 as well, but that was back when I had a 2007 Bravia that couldn't do shit with a 720p signal, which is what it ran at on PS3. It would probably look fine on my new Bravia, but I'll probably never know because I loaned out my PS3 copy almost two years ago and don't know if I'll ever get it back.

RDR, never played the PS3 version. I saw enough comparison vids to know I didn't need to bother.

I really hope GTA V has a lasso equivalent. Obviously, an actual lasso wouldn't work for the setting but something that adds risk and reward to the normal combat. Maybe a different, non-lethal combat mechanic that requires more effort than simply shooting everyone but somehow pays off in certain situations. You could may be justify a reward by subtracting some amount of the earnings for police bribes and the fewer people you kill in a mission the smaller the dirty cop cut. Playing RDR again, reminded me how huge a factor that the lasso mechanic is to making the game so fun to play.

A taser + handcuffs combo, taken from the poilice, could work.

Finding it really hard to get psyched for this for some weird reason :-/

Definitely looks (and I know it will be) awesome though, so have no idea why the current malaise. Might have just sprained my excitement bone recently.

That dam placement makes absolutely no sense on that map.

same with the main bridge.

Based off History the 360 version is your safest bet, but honestly everything but GTA4 has shown Rockstar makes the 2 versions as close as absolutly possible.

I'm going 360 because I like the controller more and I have every other Rockstar game on it. I think its the best bet for performance/quality.

I've preordered the 360 version, the only advantage i could see with the ps3 would be the free online, but i play mostly single player anyway.
I'll wait for the PC version to give the multi a shot.
