New GTAV Trailers coming April 30th

It's always different, I don't honestly know much about how things go these days since I haven't been there in almost a year.

It was a fun process to be a part of though, especially when we took a concept and ran with it.

Trailer 1 for V was supposed to introduce and tease the world of V and not get people bogged down in specifics, and I think it was very successful at that.

Sorry for the double post.

I can tell you that it was definitely very effective in that regard.

Excellent work. Looking forward to this new trailer too.

I think this is the first time they're doing character trailers for a main GTA game. Unless we include the character trailers from the GTA IV expansions.

Please be gameplay. Please be gameplay.

RDR, LA Noire and MP3 had trailers with as much as HUD elements.

Basically, GTA IV had short characters based trailers for Niko, Packie, Vlad and Roman.
Yeah those ring a bell now. And the other games aren't GTA. I've never seen pre-release GTA trailer with HUD elements. However, as cinematic as they are, they sometimes show off gameplay in that same cinematic fashion. By the second or third trailer of GTA IV we at least saw some shooting. We got that drive-by footage in the last trailer but I want to see some more.

Of course it won't be, it'll be in-engine but not gameplay, don't think Rockstar has ever done that in trailers.

Love the Niko trailer, so much.

Also every Rockstar trailer is built in the game, and is someone playing it... so it is "gameplay"

Job link from way back - and basically a LOOSE descirption of what the job really is

If it's not a cutscene, ie people talking, it's someone playing the game.

Yeah, when people ask for "gameplay" though, they usually mean someone walking around with HUD and all.
Something R* doesn't do often (or at all).
Even the videos i've mentioned above with HUD elements were still nicely edited and pretty to look at, not just some developer walkthrough.

Personally i'm fine with R*'s approach, since, as i said, i still manage to look at their trailers long after the game is out, just because they are so good (for example the Trailer 1 for RDR)

It's quite obvious what people mean when they ask for 'gameplay'. Trying to explain that for the character to move in all these edited shots, someone has to control them - Duh.

Some people just want pure gameplay without cinematic angles, effects and heavy editing. I will concede that they might have done that but I really can't recall Rockstar ever doing any ACTUAL gameplay that wasn't edited in some way - I'd love to see that.

Agree. In this context, it means footage of the game showing exactly what we will see when playing the game, holding a controller in our hands and moving our avatar around. Not with the camera broken out a la Halo 3 playback.

Personally I'm not at all hung up about it, I don't mind waiting until the game comes out to see it.

Trailers?

Would have thought they would have spread them out a bit rather than releasing all on the same day, but I'm not complaining, can't wait!

They'll probably be like 40 seconds each, all put together they should be enough footage to get people alive to Trailer 3.

Seems like little coverage for something like GTAV, still.
I'd expect them to pump an obscene amount of money in pushing this game.
I'm sure they'll have more stuff around launch but it's GTA, you don't really need to do much.

They'll probably target the casuals and let the haters know that they "put the fun back in".

Has there been any radio station previews yet?
No and I wouldn't expect anything outside of leaks and magazine tidbits.

Has there been any radio station previews yet?
Not really, but we already know of a couple of songs to be in the game.

The Small Faces - Ogdens Nut Flake
Stevie Wonder - Skeletons
Golden Earring - Radar Love
Rick James - Give it to me baby

These are the confirmed ones, then there's Kavinsky twitting about being in GTAV with his very own station "NightRide FM".
You may have heard one of his tracks from Drive's opening scene.

Beyond that, there are wilder rumors and speculations.
One German preview mentioned Classic Rock, Opera and Dub music.
Anyway they keep track of this on GTAForums.

sooooo theres animals and babys in this.

does that mean..?
Animals yes, but there are no babies.
I don't know where you've read about it, Michael's son and daughter are both teenagers (as seen in the trailer).

Yeah honestly straight gameplay isn't interesting to look at. I had a discussion with Stephen Totillo about this one day. I brought up that we made gameplay trailers with the mix of gameplay and interstitial cinematic shots, and that's why those trailers were dope, but he kept pushing they should release straight gameplay only videos.

I know that's great for the uber fans, but it wouldn't sell a game to the masses, and that's what the trailers do. They show the game in the best light, and never used any CG or external scripting to do it.

A lot of my favorite shots came from us just having fun and coming up with an idea, actually playing the game and seeing how things would happen or what looked cool.

The trailers are about giving players the feel of what it's like to play the game, not necessarily about showing the guts of the game on a table. Just like how movie trailers are about creating a story adjacent to the movie, often omitting or using footage in an out of context manner that leads people to wonder when that will happen.

Almost missed this....HYPE x 1000

What if Sony drops a megaton that while GTA V will be released on PS3 and 360, the delay was due to an exclusive next-gen PS4 version. I would eat my pants.

if anything, I expect microsoft to have paid for time exclusivity on next gen consoles, they have the money for it, and could always use killer apps for the new system.

honestly, isn't it just a bit fishy that the game was delayed to september (xbox 720 launch)
and that said delay happened just a day or two after marketing materials were sent to stores indicating "spring 2013". I smell a last minute deal happening....

New set of previews hitting sometime next week apparently:

From the GTAForums ( I know - shitty source, but it´s from a mod that I trust )

Earlier this week, we've been hearing some buzz about new previews for GTAV scheduled to go online next week. Today, we've been hearing more of this.
While over the last couple of years we've generally chosen to stay away from V rumors, we think this one is VERY credible to report on! Some of you may remember that for GTA IV we were spot on whenever it came to similar reporting on imminent previews...
We don't really know anything on the specifics of these previews, other than that they'll contain new information on the game. Previews generally tend to come with new screenshots to go along, so we have our fingers crossed for that, as well.
Much like last November, it seems we're heading for another explosive blow-out on more V information and images. The only difference: instead of just one trailer, we'll be getting three character trailers!

Why would you trust a mod on a fan forum full of kids?
That Adriaan guy usually likes to act like he's a part of Rockstar games.. I think he just seeking attention.
Edit; I just got word from a swedish mag that there will be a preview next week. So this one might be true afterall.

That Adriaan guy is truly reliable. I have no idea who his sources are, but his record definitely proves that he is trustworthy when it comes to GTA and Rockstar.

In October he was the first one to announce the "Grand Theft Auto V Is Coming Spring 2013", I mean, even before (a few minutes) the own Rockstar on their website.

For me, whichever console maker does that, gets an enormous amount of goodwill from me of whether or not I'll buy their console first.

Hope they show actual gameplay this time.

After playing Sleeping Dogs, it really hits home how bad GTAIV's shooting and driving was.

I think I'm the only person who actually enjoyed GTA IV's car handling. I liked the fact that each car had its own level of suspension, and the cars actually felt like they had weight to them.

I hated Sleeping Dogs vehicle controls.

not true for me at least, the driving in Sleeping Dogs is horrendous compared to GTAIV. i still pop in GTAIV just to drive around, it feels that good. i will never do that for Sleeping Dogs.

i hope they don't show straight up gameplay, it will be much more exciting popping the game in for the first time and not really know what to expect.

You're not the only one. I feel the same.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'll be watching these. I did swear I would go on a media blackout, but this is pretty much my most anticipated game ever since RDR. The temptation is just way too much to handle. Gah!

Wow, even if it's just an announcement of an announcement, I expected this thread to be a little busier.

Didn't you know? IV is hated on GAF quite a lot, just look at the previous GTA IV related threads lol.

Nothing wrong with that, IV had...problems but still one of the best open world games this gen to me.

These few days are gonna be torture, cant wait.

I don't necessarily love the driving in GTA4, but it does get better once you get used to it. And I do definitely prefer it to Sleeping Dogs driving.

Threads don't even have to be IV related. People will randomly go "GTA IV IS THE WORST GAME THIS GENERATION BY FAR, IT MURDERED MY FAMILY AND I HATE IT FOREVER AND EVER!"

Defiantly agree, IV handling was ridiculously better and funnily enough SD was one of the worst.

Why SD was bad: Massive dead zone in the turning which resulted in super twitchy handing of cars, way too arcadey, all cars felt the same, cars turned instantly with no effort in learning and mastering them and trying to cruise around was impossible.

The depth of IVs driving was what makes me love it, it was a bit too much for many to handle I assume .

I can honestly say I have never had problems with cars in IV over/under-steering, problems with cars turning, suspension and such since I know exactly how to control each car ( I probably spent more time JUST driving in IV than I have in JC,SR and SD put together).

I bet if people put effort into learning how the cars handling instead of doing there usual stuff ( which is going full speed and expecting to make a sharp turn instantly, hard break JUST before the turn or still accelerate while turning) they would love it too.
