New killer Instinct in the works?!?! -Dec OXM-

Ok so I am playing through the Conker Demo, and there is a point at which he pulls out a magazine called "Drudgereport". On the back of the magazine there is an ad for "KI". Now I am curious if this could be an un-announced title, maybe a launch title for neXt Box! Last week there was a "rumor" on the net as to the launch specifics of the neXt Box and one thing they listed was a fighting game, specifically from Micro$oft. So this has me thinking, could there be a NEW Killer Instinct in the works?

I would really like there to be, I understand that it has forever been rumored, but maybe now... Maybe now it is more than a rumor..... :D

Dude, there's a bunch of teasers rare puts in the game

One of conker's idle animations is playing Killer Instinct on his GBASP, for instance.

Edit: And a new KI has been rumored since... oh, 2001.

Really, I did not see that, that is pretty cool! Guess I'll have to go back and play through it again!

A KI game on the GBA would be sweet, or maybe a version of KI64 on the DS.. Think of the possabilities.

i want ki on xbox 2 i want ki on xbox 2 AGH

mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn

where's my damn new version of killer instinct :P

The magazine isn't "Drudgereport". It's just DRUDGE, which is mocking EDGE, the British publication.

Drudgereport would be more along the lines of "MONICA LEWINSKY LOVES HITLER AND HOWARD DEAN"

Of course there should be another NEW Killer Instinct (I am excluding ports here), but you seem to be forgeting one important thing...

R A R E W A R E ! ! !

Rareware isn't your average gaming studio. Rareware is that weird company that takes forever to make something that turns out to be crap...

A new KI is like my most wanted game...and it'll never happen. They could even just put 1 and 2 on Xbox. Neither have had an arcade perfect translation.

He's right. Games like Perfect Dark, GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Blast-Corps, Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong 64, etc. all suck. They're terrible. *

Fixed.. :)

And yes, Donkey Kong 64 did rock..

The versions out there certainly aren't bad though. The SNES version was great (for it's day), and the N64 game certainly wasn't bad either (haven't played that one as much).

The Game Boy version on the other hand.. :lol

Damn dude... don't play with me like that! KI is one of my favorite fighting games ever!! Man a all 3D one on Xbox Next but with 2D gameplay would ROCK

I get the feeling that with current gen graphics you could make KI fully 3D graphics wise , so Rare could make a Killer instinct deluxe with both 1 and 2 and fully 3D visuals.

Then a year later bring out KI3 with all new gameplay.

there will never be another KI like 1 and 2 because rare doesnt have the guts to make a game using high res 2D prerendered sprites so that itll play like the past ones instead if a KI3 ever comes out itll be a crappy 3D fighter rip off of Tekken or VF

and then Rare will be fucking dead to me and I will hate them for all eternity

I bought KI on the SNES earlier this year.

I don't understand the praise. The game just seems like it's cashing off of MK like Primal Rage did without trying hard.

UGH NO!

we do not need another 3D fighter UGH

leave KI and it's gameplay how it was in the 2D field

I LOATHE HATE DESPISE 3D fighters

(this has nothing to do with the OMG 2D forever BS, I just hate the gameplay of 3D fighters)

I agree. I didn't think it was much.

There is a bit of depth to the game...and it would be apparent when playing it at an arcade against other pros. Playing on the SNES against the AI won't really show you the game to it's full gameplay potential.

I think 3D visuals with tricked out lighting and 2D gameplay would kick ass. After all, that's the whole look KI went for.

I was crazy about the KI games back in the day. I remember practicing and playing the game like mad, doing ultra combo after ultra combo; I even drew a letter art of the game and sent it into EGM (never published though :p). I played the KI2 on an emulator a while back and quickly deleted it though. Now I realize how clunky many of my favourite old-school fighters are when compared to more recent fighters. :lol
Having said that, I will be very interested in a KI3 though I don't think I will buy the next Xbox just to play it if it does get released.

KI Arcade was the shit, and I didn't actually mind the N64 port either. Having said that I doubt there'll be another KI game for a long time, Rare just seem to avoid making the games the fans want.

Those are all N64 games that are more than 5 years old! Perfect Dark is the latest release on that list...

I didn't said that the studio wasn't once a stellar developper, but you HAVE to admit that they are worst than ever this generation. They take more time than ever to create deception that doesn't sell...

Arcade != Home version. Trust me...

Banjos is on he's way too. Yes I know it's old...

You are correct in that they haven't been as stellar this generation.. then again, I haven't even played any of their games this gen (SFA, Grabbed by the Ghoulies.. umm. what else?). But I still have very high hopes for the company, especially since those N64 games kicked serious arse.

I've never played a Rare game I haven't enjoyed.. then again, I haven't played Grabbed by the Ghoulies.. :lol

KI was whole arcade scene for me and alot folks I know( I abit mainly at first because alot of us fell for line that this is what ultra 64(n64) would be). Its only game got us to go to them repeatedly. It never has had faithfull port, that is true.
I agree with poster above I think they will be too afraid to make gorgeous 2d ki sequel and will opt instead for crappy 3d knock off, shame.

Anyone notice the advert poster on the side of the arcade cabinet a couple of EDGE issues back too?
New KI is deffo happening.
Rare still has code from the first experiments with GameCube KI that of course, came to nothing. *Doubt* that will be used now but interesting anyway. :)

Edit:

OMGOMG.
Just had arcade flashback!

"Available in your home in 1995, only on Nintendo Ultra 64… KILLER INSTINCT!”

Fuck rad!

But seriously, they also did boring games... Diddy Kong Racing, Blast-Corps (no, it was unappealing, uncharismatic and boring), Jet Force Gemini (something was missing... and the uncharismatic doll-like characters) and Star Fox Adventures (they should have release Dinosaur Planet on N64; maybe it was Nintendo's fault, I don't care)...

I personally didn't like the Banjo-Kazooie series, but I see a certain quality standard that was meant. Althought, I can't stand games that require you to come back 18 times on the same levels with subtle changes after playing Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 and Star Fox Adventures.

Because you played an inferior port of it in 2004. If you had played it in 1994 you'd see what's so special. At the time the graphics and sound were incredible and nobody had seen combos like that.

KI on the SNES was a hack job. A great hack, but not perfect by any means. As the last poster said, play it in the arcades in 1994 and you'd understand. The game had a huge following, eclipsing MK2, which was bigger than God in its time. It's still one of my all-time favorite games, eventhough it get a lot of flack for the combo system. I loved it. KI2 was good, although not as good as the original IMO. Then again, I'm just pissed at how they fucked up that Sabrewulf and Fulgore. Actually, they might have made Fulgore too good with those cheap eye lasers, but his appearance also got jacked up in the process. THe new characters weren't completely forgettable, but weren't that great, and Orchid went from being freaky yet cool to looking like a jerry-curled porn star. They really messed her up IMO. The original KI is still the best, and Rare is too stupid to release another game in the series. I'm done waiting for KI3. PEACE.

Hmm.. I can agree that JFG got a little boring after a while (still pretty good though) and I guess Blast-Corps did too (only rented that one), but I loved Diddy Kong Racing. Awesome game. Same goes for Banjo. And Conker. And PD. and etc. Ok, I'll shutup now. Stuff like Donkey Kong 64, Banjo, etc. wasn't boring for me. Maybe nowadays it would be (not sure), but it certainly wasn't at the time. I loved 'em.

Fun game until you encountered.... THE FLAW (!!!!!!)

What is the flaw? The flaw is when you turtle (block everything) and counterattack with 1 jab. It is unstoppable.

Ex: Cinder jumps in with a roundhouse, you do a standing block then jab IMMEDIATELY. Cinder gets bounced back. Cinder comes in with a crouching move or overhead, you block then jab. Cinder does ANYTHING... as long as you block it, then jab, he's hit! I've seen guys stand next to each other and trade jabs the whole match, it's the dumbest thing I'd ever seen. You'd think that a simple jab wouldn't be worth a hooey but it adds up VERY quickly. Why does this happen? Because there is no block freeze; you are never locked into a block pose for any length of time and a jab is fast enough to hit the guy before he is able to block you. Street Fighter 2 OTOH had block freeze. Ex: Guile comes in with a jab at Ryu. Ryu blocks and is frozen for a split second and cannot counterattack until he stops sliding back.

Not only that, but let's say he actually hits you. If you're prepared, which pros are, just about anything can be C-c-c-c-Combo-Breaker!'ed, (except a jab if I recall, not sure about jabs). So let's say Cinder jumps in with a roundhouse and had no intention at all about doing a combo; he just wants to do a jumping-in roundhouse kick. Well, if I get hit, I can immediately whip out a C-c-c-c-ombo-Breaker... whether Cinder intended to follow up with a combo or not!

Highly, highly flawed system at professional levels of play. The game quickly breaks down into a jab/Combo-Breaker fest and it's no fun.

Entertaining at medium levels of play, not at high.

Anybody else encounter this?

The throws in KI2 were so cheesy looking. Those would definitely need improvement.

Anyone else have the Killer Kuts soundtrack cd? I remember thinking it was neat back in the day. :lol I bet it's a total slab of cheese now. I bet I still have it around somewhere.

KI was definitely a 2nd tier fighter, below SFII & MKII back in the day, but I wouldn't call it "bad". It was flashy and fun back in the day. The character designs were cheesy in a good way, and the soundtrack was pretty good.

what have you done for me lately
oooh ooooh ooooooh yeah

I don't see why anyone should be excited about a new KI game. The only thing I remember the game being special for was having a music CD that came with the game. For it's time the visuals were somewhat impressive. Other than that, it was a subpar fighter with subpar character design.

Quite frankly, if given the choice, I would rather play Beyond the Beyond.

This man speaks truth! I forgot about that! Orchid was ultra(no pun intended) in KI and then went to hell in KI2.
