New leukemia treatment cures 2, reduces disease 70% in another

Hurry the fuck up with this please.

My brother has leukemia, though it has receded 3 years ago after a lot of chemo.
One other kid in the hospital there had the same initial success but it came back a few years later and now he is dead... Same could happen to my brother.

I'm always happy to hear of success in the fight against cancer, but I always want to hold back total celebration because unfortunately these early results often don't pan out on a larger scale later on.

How did they even think of doing this. That's some outside of the box thinking right there...

The use of HIV-derived vectors for gene/immunotherapy has been going on for ages. 10 years at the very least.

Anyway, before people get too excited (too late?) it's working well but a very specific type of leukemia and ut's really not clear what the side effects will be in the long term.

Seriously though, fuck cancer. That is the one thing I wish to see eradicated in my lifetime; not a trip to Mars or contact with a UFO or anything like that, just get rid of cancer THEN we can do cool shit.

This is just amazing. My cousin has had leukemia (in and out of remission) since he was an infant - he's 14 now. He was lucky that he had a match for a bone marrow transplant and that it worked pretty well. I hope that further research will show this to be just as effective in the general populace.
