New Level 5 game: Rogue Galaxy

It's too bad that rogue galaxy will have random dungeons as well, since it completly puts me off the game now.

According to Bebpo the scan of RG doesn't say anything about random dungeons.

Well, I give up on dark cloud 2. while the graphics are beautiful, the plot SUCKS, and the random dungeons are horribly repetitive. not to mention the fact you have to keep track of dozens upon dozens of items, inventions, fishing, building, and whatever else they put in the game. the whole game basically feels like a chore and I wasn't having any fun.

It's really not for everybody, the game. I personally liked it a lot, although the dungeons were kind of annoying (the 7th chapter has over 24 different levels in it! the bonus 8th chapter, even more). All the stuff they packed into the game was cool - fishing, spheda (once you got the hang of the wonky physics), taking pictures and invention. Really nice extras but aside from the Georama (usually pretty easy to do although there are some parts where you NEED a guide to get anywhere, like the final chapter) you don't have to do most of the optional stuff aside from once or twice in the story. Great graphics (level 7 drooooool), and good music, and decent battle mechanics too.

The plot gets a bit better towards the middle of the game, unfortunately it ends in a total half-assy way, it's like they stopped caring after chapter 5 or so. But if you're more interested in an action RPG with more plot and less dungeon hack, try going back to SNES and play Terranigma or Soulblazer.

Is that in-game? Because that looks beyond amazing.

Dude...this is a PS2 game. OF COURSE that's not in-game. That's FMV from one of the game's cut-scenes. I bet the actual graphics don't look too different from Dark Cloud 2/Dragon Quest VIII.

Wow looks like they already found a way to ruin cel shading. More realistic cel shading = what's the point?

Wha? What screenshots you looking at boy? I think you at factor 5 dragon rpg by mistake.

hardly ruins cel shading. imo, this is what next gen cel shaded should look like, maybe even better

If the main character is wielding a sword instead of a fucking wrench, that's already a step in the right direction.

Edit - And I likeses the art style too.

In-game looks like an improved DQVIII, yes. Damn fine CG cel-shading though.

Why hasn't anyone put jaggies on that screenshot? It's what the PS2 version will look like! :lol

Seriously though, it probably does look like an even better version of DQ8 in game I bet and DQ8 is a fucking fabulous looking game.

Anyone else misread the title and thought FACTOR 5 is making another damn Star Wars game?
I did until I read your post, then I was confused for a second.

I wish I could put up the 7 minutes of footage I recorded from the game. Alas, we have to "respect" Sony's wishes that we not show the trailer.

Wow, I figured they'd want to keep the PS3 demos locked up more than they would this. I guess this will be one they'll be uploading to the official site then.

No way! They'll calculate the trajectory and realize that I was the one who did it (I had a position assigned to my camera).

Or we could all claim we did it, and then it would be pretty difficult to tell who did :lol

I love Dark Cloud 2, and like Level 5, and therefore am super excited about this.

Better be a freakin' US release.

Is it an ARPG or traditional RPG?

Hard to tell, but with a three-person party, "traditional RPG" seems likely. We'll find out more on 8/5, which is when the "blowout" issue of Famitsu streets and the website goes live. Until then, nobody's talking.

EDIT: The music in the trailer was very good, as was the voice acting. They listed the names of some voice actors, but I don't remember any of them (sorry).

To me it looks like conventional Final Fantasy models with cleaner lines/flatter colors. Okami should be the future, not this.

If you are playing the game for the plot...then you're an idiot. There really arent many rpg's with actually decent plots. The game is all about dungeon crawling and building up your weapons/making shit. If you arent into that then go play Xenosaga or some crap like that.

Where did I mention I was playing it for the plot?
And for a game centered around dungeon crawling, the dungeon crawling sucked absolute ass.

I haven't played an RPG since Grandia 2, and thought Dark Cloud 2 would be a good choice since it got good scores everywhere. guess I was wrong.

I'll try SMT instead.

Huh, from all the impressions, I figured it'd be another turn-based affair, but it's actually an Action/RPG with AI-controlled allies? Well! I'm up for that. I just hope they can provide some quality AI for the allies, or this could take a turn for the worse very quickly. :P

Still, though, it looks great from that trailer, and seems to be pushing for a much more cinematic approach than the Dark Cloud titles, so maybe it'll be less dungeon-crawly and more story-focused. Either way, I'm there, as Level 5 hasn't disappointed me yet. :)
