That's exactly what i thought I'd stick with the Scion it's probably about $10,000 cheaper than this new lexus
Closer to $15k-$20k cheaper...

Still, I like this. Improvement over the existing IS.
It's a bit Acura-ish (TL/TSX) - but I suppose that's a good thing.

I'm not crazy about the tail lights (too Corolla - I like the Altezza lights) and, although the new speedometer looks pretty cool, I'm gonna miss the old one:

I'd still rather go with a G35 or TL.

I'm having trouble slotting this car in size-wise from these shots.

Is there a US release date? and what are this car's competitors... Acura TL? TSX? BMW 5 series? 3 series? Or is it a smaller, cheaper car than that?

Meh. I've been looking at the IS300 as my next new/used car....and I have been waiting for pictures/specs of the new 2006 IS (350/250?).
If this really is the new 2006 IS, I think I will go ahead and get a 2002/3 IS300. I like that they got rid of the altezza tail lights but I prefer the older body style. I hear the new IS will be quite a bit more expensive too...but also more powerful

As I was pulling out of the work parking garage yesterday I saw a car I thought at first was a Solara, then I noted it was a Sedan and had a different back end.... then I'm use to seeing. Got home last night and looked it up.

Damn I didn't realize it was out already...

It's competitors are the Acura TL, Inifiniti G35, BMW 3-series (325? 330?), Audi A4, etc.

Oh great so that makes this fall's car purchase even more difficult.... grrrrrr

The new GS is a badass under the hood. Not too big on the styling and expect huge blind spots with the way the rear pylons are sloped. As I was mentioning to stevemeister last night, apparently the relentless pursuit of excellence doesn't apply to their crappy ass website.

:lol true their website is ass... and yeah those quarter panels did look like they would make for some mighty big blind spots... I hate myself for seeing this car, I told the missus I wasn't looking at anything in the extravagant range... which puts me back in the TL price range... <hold steadfast... hold steadfast....>

That's vaguely reminiscent of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS class:

Although its "4-door coupe" styling is a bit less successful than the MB's. Damn that CLS is gorgeous...

I don't think the new GS was intended to be styled like the 4 door coupe theme that MB choose with the CLS, that is I've never read anything to that effect...

Perhaps not. I just speculated that because of the slope of the rear window and the blackened b-pillar.

I'm a bit dissapointed. I've been a big fan of the IS-300 for years, but this new design just strikes me as very generic.

It looks almost like a Honda Accord or the new Honda Civic even.

The original IS-300 just seems more sportier, more unique, and had a cool Japanese + Euro design asthetic. Plus those great Alteeza rear lights.

The new BMW 3 series looks better.

I don't know what's going on at Lexus, but I've been hating many of their designs starting with the redesign for the ES300 :) I think they must have a new lead designer or something because some of their directions seem confused now. Not a big fan of what they did going from the RX300 to the RX330/400h either.
