Greetiiings!
I just bought the german Gamepro and there is a 2-pages interview with Eiji Aonuma in it. Here are the infos from it:

- EA wouldnt say that the new Zelda is a "dark" game... That impression just comes to mind, because Nintendo wanted to show fighting scenes in the trailers and, well, the guys you have to fight look "dark", of course.

- EA didnt want to go into detail, but it is possible that Link will have another sidekick like KORL or Navi.

- The new Zelda game will fit into the chronology of the past Zelda's... But again, EA doesnt want to go into detail, because the setting is, like he says, one of the big suprises the new game will offer.

- Realism is an important piece of Zelda05, concerning the weight and mass of objects. Physics, anyone..?

- Many bossfights in the previous Zelda games happened in Dungeons... That will be different: Some of the biggest (!) bossfights in Zelda05 will happen outside.

- EA is thinking about characters, that are just coming out at night/day.

- It is possible to hijack EVERY mount from beaten enemies, even bosses.

- They want to integrate a water-road into the overworld, acessible with your boat. It's possible to reach far places faster then with your horse.

- The overworld will be huge, seamless kingdom.

Thats it so far... EA didnt want to answer the question, if Link's horse is Epona, but a knowing smile crossed his face.

Can anyone validate this?

The only way the horse could be Epona was if this game took place after Majora's Mask and before Wind Waker. That means it would take place at the same time as the adult Link adventure in Ocarina, but now with a different version of that future.

That's kinda nice. But I was kinda looking foward to this new kingdom that would emerge. Oh well, maybe for the Revolution Zelda.

Its all good. Must play killer gamecube title. Can't wait for the inhouse Nintendo titles. They've been VERY quiet.

Isn't this the very opposite of what Aonuma said in that 1up article?

Yeah, I wouldn't put too much faith in that. I remember we got a knowing smile from Peter Main when asked about that Sega/Nintendo RPG that was rumoured so heavily before GC's launch. Half the time they're just smiling because so many people believe a rumour that's not true.

YES!

- The overworld will be huge, seamless kingdom.

Oh HELL YES! probably the biggest reason I have been wanting a *proper* Gamecube Zelda ever since Dolphin was announced -- this, on a smaller scale, was one of the main reasons I loved Ocarina of Time, and is one of the main reasons I'm so excited about Zelda 2005.

Man, I hope this game blows away my expectations. They're quite high, but it HAS been done before.

On a somewhat related note, we've had one preorder a week since the game was announced at last E3, on average.

and floodgates will probably open after E3.

Yep. We have one preview box promoting the game currently. Though usually the numbers grow bigger and bigger the weeks and days before release. I remember people were preordering Gran Turismo 4 the day of its release to make sure they got a copy. We ended up getting about 10-20 reservations that day for the game alone.

hehe, so are you going to E3 or not?

oh well, atleast you went last year right. I wish to go to 1 E3 in my life.

Yeah. Being in retail simply doesn't cut it anymore. You have to be a manager now at least.

hijacking mounts... sounds awesome =)

and it seems like the overworld is much larger than I previously thought.

I still hope this game takes place after Zelda II, and talks about returning to Hyrule to 'reclaim' it.

(For those who don't know, Zelda 1 and 2 both took place after basically the total destruction of Hyrule. The first dungeon in Zelda 1 is apparantly the Deku Tree as well. Zelda 2 took place far to the north of Hyrule after the kingdom was driven from that land by war).

I have a strong feeling that this game is going to be about the origins of Ganondorf (i.e. pre-Zelda 1 or 2). I felt that way ever since EA, when asked about who the character in the black robe was, commented that he couldn't reveal who it is yet....but take note of the evil looking castle behind the character. The skin color doesn't quite match but it could be a young Ganondorf. WW talked about many Links and the Link in this game might be the very first one.

Nice idea!

We already know there's a boat. Some of the fishing scans from EGM show link fishing from a boat in a huge river.

Ocarina of Time allready revealed the origins of Ganondorf

Maybe it takes place then during the time in which the world is flooded.
So that's why you'd need a sailboat, during the middle/end of the game, the uh.... world floods.

Or maybe it is the time WW Vaati is first sealed. Maybe he's in the robes.

I will consider NOT buying the new Zelda if that bastardization of a franchise is in it.

You know i was just thinking that the other day...i mean even though the skin color doesnt match up as you said it could be a younger Ganondorf and the nose is basically the same big nose that ganondorf has, and the way the character is looking over his shoulder gives him a kinda evil look...but i still think the possibility of it being Impa is pretty good too.

Hmm...now you all got me thinking...

Do you know what would be REALLY cool?

You're farming Link and you're walking around your town (Taura, was it?) and you have to pick something up from a friends house...and you go to the house, and go in...

It's GANONDORF!!!

Link and him are best friends blah blah blah, he slowly turns bad by a war waging in Hyrule and turns into the bad guy we all know and love...can you imagine that as a final boss? That would be awesome.

Yes, I did steal this from Star Wars.

except we allready know the origin of Ganondorf, thanks to OOT (am I the only one who played that game and paid attention to it)

and unlike Link and Zelda who are always a new pair, Ganon is the same being from game to game

OOT was the first game in the series Chronologically we know the origin of Ganondorf

Where did you hear that? It's quite plausible, but I really doubt Nintendo had all that in mind when they made the first two games (although Hyrule was obviously not in the best shape at the time). I've never heard of Nintendo giving out any official story details outside of what's directly in the games or manuals either. Still, it would be pretty cool if thats true, and I can see the Deku tree being an homage to the Eagle dungeon's entrance.

Shin John: Yes, that's true we know where THAT Ganondorf came from.

But you can't say that it's the same Link/Ganon combo, can you?

Or am I wrong?

It's always the same Ganon, just a different Link and Zelda.

It would be cool if this game was the story of Vatti getting locked away. But, I can't remember-is Vatti the same villian from Four Swords? It'd be cool if Nintendo eventually did a full blown Four Swords game...single player that is. Where we play out the first use of the Four Sword and how that shadow guy (Vatti?) got locked away.

Go and buy/play The Minish Cap. ;) .

Fucking hell. I've seen two comments alone in this thread suggesting that this zelda is about the origins of Vaati.

IT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE
GO PLAY MINISH CAP.

well yeah I wrote this in the 1up thread yesterday. Maybe shouldn't made a new thread about it.

Link me SC, because I saw no mention of a boat & waterway into the overworld, strictly nightime NPCs/enemies, & outside boss battles. Had I known I wouldn't have posted this. Regardlesss, let's just hand over GOTY honors already. I've enjoyed Jade Empire, & RE4 even moreso, but this is simply sounding incredibly deep. The gameplay is not an issue.

I most surely agree with this post.

I am so excited about this game. It should easily be the best game I've played in years.

The overworld is going to be absolutely huge. Can't wait!

Except that the Link in OoT, should be, and I believe is considered to be, the first/original incarnation of Link. Go back further in time and Link would either be a baby or not be born at all.

Wait till after e3 to make that kinda comment. Anything could happen, with a next gen console coming out this year as well. People usually over rate next gen launch titles too.

Nothing overshoots Zelda. This is still, in many eyes, the only perfect franchise. If anything, we will be demanding more from this game than the next-gen shit. This is looking to go above and beyond OOT, as crazy as it sounds.
