Fuck your screenshots EA. Give me in game footage that doesnt look like the game is 50% done (with 1 month before launch mind you) and then we'll talk.
 
Did we ever get a real answer as to why the target footage and this are like night and day? Why weren't the same art assets used?

In a lot of the shots, the depth of field, and especially the scale of everything, makes most of the shots look...strange.

Note to EA: Michael Vick is not a big dude.
 
Quite nice environments, especially that rain shot. If I can adjust the severity of weather and play in goddamn downpours and blizzards, this is an easy purchase.
 
It looks good... But it's still a slap in the face after the incredible "target look" we saw way back when.
 
The detail disparity is huge tho... I want my blades of grass!!! Not too fond of the artistic direction either.
 
pros:
stadiums
lighting
textures
environmental effects

the game looks hot, the only thing holding it back from looking stunning is self-shadowing IMO. of course the character modeling is still a bit odd too
 
Looks good to me. The in-motion stuff has looked good to me as well. I think that the reason that the screenshots are so weird is the fact Adobe had a hand in them.

but what is up with the aliasing on the helmets? and still no grass. next-gen must have grass.
 
The videos is what had me writing this game off totally as the animation is the same as what we have now... In fact, bad animation has fucked up my anticipation for quite a 360 few games. What's w/ that?

Football is a shit sport that makes for an even shittier videogame.

Millions of Madden fans CAN be wrong.

are the fans in the stands always fully 3d? they look really detailed (for fans) in that 1st shot.

I also thought that was micheal pitman in that Tampa Bay shot but alas EA surprises me and decides it looks like caddy.
 
the stadiums are breathtaking. the models are poor, the field (the lack of grass and just a flat boring texture) are complete and utter SHIT. they should at least add some bump/poly mapping or that new technique (forget the name) that PDZ uses on the walls to at least make the field to appear to have depth. I can't believe they are trying to pass off that flat piece of shit textured field on us with a straight face.
 
Why is it that at a game in Madden football nobody bring an umbrella when it rains... I mean come on. If you are trying to make the game as real as possible, then give them umbrellas.

Parallax mapping. From what Ive seen its mostly been applied toward hard concrete like surfaces though. Im not sure if its been used for anything very organic yet (flora, foliage, grass, trees etc), or maybe it has and I havent noticed the trickery. I wonder what techniques the FIFA guys are using, while overdramatic the depth and detail of the pitch is very impressive.
 
I don't know which videos people have been watching. I am a huge Steeler fan and have been to Heinz Field many times. This is the first time a game has captured the look and feel of Heinz Field - and the amazing view of the city in the open part of the end zone. The Bettis pic shows some of this.

nobody is complaining about the stadiums, in fact, we're all in agreement those are a sight to behold (in fact they blow my mind how incredible they are). it's just everything else, especially the field being a flat texture and the poor player models. that's not to mention how poorly this game animates in the released videos showing the game in motion (and the poor framerate as well).
 
Love the statiums and environments, but the character models are still off. Hope they move will in game. *fingers still crossed on this one*

Geeez such a disappointment compared to their target footage/screens..... "This is what it'll look like..." my ass...

Gotta love the lack of effort once you don't have any competition to push you...
 
The game looks fine. Some of you people are seriously batshit insane if you think this looks 'bad'

Are you on the Microsoft payroll? The way you run to defend it every chance you get I hope you get a nice check from them :)

Yeah parallax mapping, that's it, thanks. I know you said you haven't seen it used for anything organic, but do you think it would look ok if they tried? I was thinking that since field turff is so short, and not really in my mind thought of like 'grass' (which I think of as longer) that you could use parallax mapping to sort of psuedo replicate it.

Replicating field turf, to me, doesn't need to show individual blades of grass in detail. So I thought maybe the parallax mapping technique might work just to give it some height and a little more detail without a large performance hit. It would at least look better than a plain old boring flat texture imo, which just looks absurd to me; like their playing football on a green basketball court or sumfin. :/
 
Looks hella good to me,only problem I have is the running animation from the released vids...not sure if that could change by release though...
 
This looks more 'realistic' as to the capabilities once you aren't just drawing faces with depth of field and nothing else going on on the proc.
