New Mass Effect Screenshots

The framerate is a pretty big dissapointment, here's hoping they get it up to snuff by the time it launches.

Has there been a new video shown? The last video shown was the demo from x06 I believe? Unless I am missing something, did you get to see something?

Screenshots are amazing, stunning, glee-inducing.

Clean and Pristine is fine.... not every game needs to be all grimey and dirty, especially when Bioware is pulling it off this well. Stilted animations however, are something I have issues with (especially in the E3 walkthrough vid). I'm guessing we'll see some more footage this week that will tell where they ended up with that. Bioware has to be very near completion. I mean, if Forza 2 only has 5 weeks left...

This game just looks amazing and they nailed the atmosphere and presentation. What bothered me was the female voice in the last(x06?) video sounded like some over anxious teen nerd, compared to the first video(e3?). I hope they will use alien languages in the game as well, that would just be more immersing than everyone speaking english.

you are awesome, should have choosen a better photo of me though....... :D

I like the graphics but what I am saying its not anything super impressive like gears of war.

This just adds some credence to something I once heard a game developer say - to paraphrase:

'Once video game graphics become close to realism - thats when things will get difficult, because unless its perfect, it just will not seem right.'

I suggest that is what we have here :D

Quite jaggalicious, but quite sexy. But I grow tired of judging the visual quality of games by screens.

Read the 1up impressions, it sounds remarkably KOTOR-like in that regard. Since KOTOR rarely got to the point where it was unplayable, this would suit me just fine, but still, I'd like to see a locked 30fps whenever possible.

I'm curious to see what John from 1up has to say about the game. His level of anticipation for it mirrors my own, so I'd really like to know how he feels after seeing the first hour or so.

Bioware also responded to those impessions as well;

We're actually pretty proud of the eyes in Mass Effect, so I think it was just a mistake or something. If there was anything wrong with them, it would have had to be specific to that build (minor problems do arise from time to time).

As far as the frame rate and such "minor quibbles", what the folks at GDC saw was a build of the game. It wasn't some special build made to show off progress or hype up a particular feature. It was what gets made daily around here. Sometimes the builds work great, sometimes they have a few small flaws, sometimes they explode like supernovas sending the team into hysterics trying to fix it. These things happen. Generally the game gets better and better with each passing build (barring Nova-type builds, but these get fixed darned fast).

The game is not optimized yet (as mentioned). It will still get multiple layers of polish and optimization before you fans get your hands on it. Personally, I'm really pleased that the only thing 1Up could find to complain about was stuff that I know will be fixed before we ship the game.

Lockdown mode incoming.

that looks decent for a 360 game.

So you think that Mass Effect is only "decent" by 360's high standards? :lol

I thought it already has?

The shots here aren't from gameplay angles. GEoW looked just as good or better in screenshots that were also taken from non-gameplay angles.

" (Dr. Muzkya said there would "hundreds of planets" multiple times during the demonstration) continue to solidify the franchise and its universe as the game of the first-half of 2007."

I said wow.

BamYouHaveAids said:
:O If that's true, and they all are as detailed as the other worlds we have seen, then all other developers should throw in the towel.

Doesn't that kind of depend on how expansive the playable areas are though? I mean, if a majority of the planets only feature a relatively small area to explore, it's not that amazing.

Well, I guess it is, in terms of variety. And variety is good.

I said "100 planets my ass, yeah right"

Well I would normally agree with that, but ya got to think DLC, and let's not forget this is going to be a trifecta so those 100 planets could come in many different forms.

oh just found out this is an unreal engine 3 game, not as impressive anymore.

I'd love you to explain that one. Do UE3 games develop themselves or something? Skynet is coming!

Ooh and the screens just get better and better. Fingers crossed the gameplay is as good as the visuals.

It was just an engine, sitting on a computer. There was never any stopping it. All the games started developing themselves. Cliffy B. tried to tell us, but we didn't want to listen.

I hope it was clear in the preview that those quibbles I had/have are quibbles that I completely expect and hope will be fixed by release -- and that they are minor complaints, but complaints that I feel like we should still disclose to the readers. I could not POSSIBLY be more excited for Mass Effect. I hope that, too, comes across in my wobbly-knee'd text.

Well, it's not like Bioware is known for solid framerates, so excuse me while I remain sceptical.

There's no way anyone could've missed that.

Looking at that screenshot of the "Agency" "Tower", and how awesome the pink lighting was I was like "Oh, wow, I haven't even seen this in MOTION yet. I mean, this is going to have to end up being the most cinematic game experience ever, right?
