Manson's not a bad guy at all. Anyone remember when he was on Conan?

How about when he was on Last Call with Carson Daly (I stumbled upon it, I swear)? At the beginning of the interview, the audience, which consisted primarily of I believe Jadakiss fans, didn't know how to react to him. They seemed uneasy and unwilling to laugh. By the end, they were laughing at nearly all of his jokes.

He was also on Politically Incorrect a few years ago and was pretty fucking amazing.

I have to echo the MM sentiment here. In every interview I've read or seen, the guy comes across as very intelligent, articulate, well spoken, and with a lot of very relevent things to say.

His music on the other hand, is obvious, gimicky, and fairly weak.

I've heard things say his pretty smart. I personally have never read any interviews from him, it doesn't come across in any of the music I've heard from him. When I said moron I mainly meant an ass.

Was that the one with Florence Henderson? I believe he was on a couple times. They were all pretty great. There isn't much better than seeing a politician arguing with a man in a sequined fuschia jumpsuit.

Since Real Time started, I've been hoping for an appearance by Manson but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. Too bad.

Do you like Real Time? I think it pales in comparison to P.I.

I did like Sarah Silverman on the first episode, though. Bombed so hard it was incredible!

Sorry but political preaching music is garbage. Maynard respect -100. Eminem respect -1000.

I want to hear the opintions of people who are directly affected by policies and not weak ass artist that sit around and bitch from uptop their million dollar mansions.

I still love tool and the first two apc albums.

Eh, I think they each have their positives. With Real Time, there are no commercials and they have the freedom to say whatever they want. With P.I., it was on every day and they didn't have the insanely partisan audience that they do now. I think overall I prefer RT just because of the increased freedom. I generally don't watch broadcast TV for that very reason. Just the idea that something has been cleaned-up for me is infuriating.

Yes. God forbid someone who's earned a little money cares about what's going on.

So, you would have no problem with an artist speaking their mind provided that they are poor? How about musicians who were once rich and are now poor? Are you A-OK with MC Hammer weighing-in on social issues?

And, who exactly are these phantom people directly affected by the policies that you wish to hear from? Do you have any problem with pundits like Bill O'Reilly and his ilk? Are you suggesting that we allow completely unknown people to lead political discussions in the media?

That's backwards, man. Musical artists especially have to worry about censorship, so politics are well within their "world". Why do you see them as living on some alternate planet? They still have their concerns and opinions with foreign policy, fiscal policy, potential wars, seeing as they live in the big cities, etc. They have more influence on politics than we do, anyway. Their fan base will follow them, and seeing as they apparently live in money castles in the clouds they can donate more to the party of their choice.

No but why should I care what Maynard has to say? Why should I respect his opinion? Because he was in the military?

logical fallacy.
its akin to saying,
"the fuck does he know about feminism? he's a redneck for crying out loud!"
"like hell you're a communist, you're daddy is a fucking millionaire, what the fuck do you know about communism?"
"why the hell would you like halo 2? you're a fucking nintendo fan."

you are drawing conclusions from assumed premises.

Seriously, you're not making any sense. Political music is garbage when the artist isn't directly affected by the problems he addresses? ...??

yeah, and while we're at it, screw all those white people that stood up and protested during the Civil Rights movement in the 50s/60s. I mean, after all, they weren't black so who cares what they think about it since they weren't directly affected by racism and segregation, right?

I'll always be thankful for Public Enemy. The more politics in music, the better.

And what's up with all this +1(0000000...) crap anyway? why do I always see this here? is anyone actually keeping count?

Yep, that's right. The points are like whether or not your porn is on DVD or VHS.

While I'll always been in love with Chuck D's booming voice over some ill Bomb Squad beats, their politics.... I've always found them to be a bit dodgy. Doesn't make It Takes a Nation of Millions or Fear of a Black Planet any less classic; I'm just saying.

Clive Anderson is keeping a tally and Drew Carey is auditing.

New Guide Book for Bands:

1. You can write about anything!
2. Except politics.

I never fucking understood that. If some people were born in the 60s, they'd probably have shot themselves in the head by now after being inundated with so much politically charged music. I hate to break it to you, but if something conjurs up emotion, people will write about it. It's not a matter of whether they're popular or not. They don't have some kind of fucking moral code to follow either. If they care, they write about it. If they don't care, they won't write about it.

True, there are exceptions, but Maynard is the last fucking guy that I would expect to run off and do a political album because the last yacht he bought wasn't big enough. And before you go accusing him as a sell out (I figure it'll come at some point, always does with Tool), here's a few lines from one of their songs ...

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar

So...Shut up and

Buy my new record
Send more money
Fuck you, buddy.
God I love Maynard. Not because he's cool, or because he has political views, but because he forces you to fucking think.

Zack quit. Is working on Chinese Democracy Pt. 2. Other members went on to do generic rock band Audio Slave with Chris Cornell.

They broke up. Some band members formed Audioslave with Chris Cornell [of Soundgarden]. Awesome band.

-edit-

Audioslave... generic? No.

Well, in my view, yes, they are fairly generic... they broke no new ground, their sound was not at all removed from any in the last 10-15 years.

Not that I'm saying they're a bad band or make crap music. They're all very talented. I just find them formulaic and uninteresting.

Formulaic, I'll give you. They aren't blazing any trails. It's basically poetry with a hard sound. Uninteresting? That's subjective, but I have to suspect you've only listened to them superficially. And how removed does the sound have to be for them to avoid the vague "generic" label? They have a very distinct sound.

Well, to be honest I hardly listen to rock or music within that sphere anymore, but I grew up on stuff like Unsane, Helmet, Fugazi, Godflesh as well as all the "Grunge" period bands -- Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Jane's Addiction, Tool etc. etc. from about 90' onwards, so I'd heard quite a bit of the sound.

I did like what RATM were doing, to an extent, and when I heard the pairing with Cornell, it just seemed like a band rocking out for the sake of it. It was quite a feeling of deja vu... nothing new, nothing exciting. They have my respect regardless.
