Spider-Man 2 is already confirmed to be singleplayer.
Plus, Insomniac have been posting job openings for a multiplayer project, which would line up pretty well with what's being talked about in this rumor.

I personally do, not sure about other players though, seems like Sony is pushing alot of multiplayer games.

"GAAS" is not the problem.
In fact, you'd have to be stupid to not like GAAS as a concept, because the "Games as a Service" approach in theory allows the player to keep receiving new content for their favorite game regularly, which is good.
The problem is that most GAAS these days seem to try to be the next Destiny rather than bringing something new and memorable to the table, which hopefully Sony and Marvel would be able to deliver with this multiplayer Marvel project.

It would make sense to do it that way if the wolverine game is set around the same time as "the wolverine" which is prior to the first X-Men movie when he formally gets introduced to the rest of them for the first time.

But maybe it will change when Sony decides to make more multi player games.
I'd be okay with that. It's been a while since we had a decent X-Men game, and introducing the game could tie in nicely with the end of Wolverine. I just hope it's not too similar to Avengers or GotG. Still, it could be something entirely different, and not related to X-Men at all.
I can't speak for everyone here, obviously, but I do prefer a single-player experience over multiplayer. I don't avoid multiplayer — some of my favourite games are online — but I do favour a decent narrative over multiplayer shenanigans.

As for me, i can tell you that i love a good action adventure game but my favorite Playstation franchise is Killzone and that tells you everything.

I reckon Spiderman 2 will have co-op. The whole game can be played singleplayer where you can switch between characters and make ai commands. But you can also just play if all in co-op.

GaaS usually means the initial release is weak. If they can deliver a full experience then add content I wouldn't mind. A good example is Monster Hunter World. It was a fully featured game, yet they had events and content added for free over time, then they also had a substantial paid expansion.

But if you look at Insomniac's history, they get tied to a lot of franchises. Spyro, R&C, Resistance and now Marvel games. They always have a sprinkling of random one-off games (even VR too) to keep busy, but their bread and butter is making a good franchise and then sticking to it for lots of sequels until gamer interest drops. Then move to another franchise.
Given their recent trend and their future projects, it seems these small scale games are being put aside. It's basically R&C (done) and now full steam Marvel. You never know, there might be another R&C game later. Hard to believe their next R&C game would be PS6.
I'd guess Sony locked them up in fear they wouldnt be able to make so many Marvel games as they are always making side games.

Guys I know that many of you like single players but the world is beautiful because it is varied. Think about souls games and how niche they are, imagine someone just because it's not their genre do not want them to arrive on the platform. you will understand how foolish it is to complain.

That would be a bad look for Sony. I'd hate to see Sony go down the milking of the marvel IP route the same way star wars and the MCU is milked,
insomniac should be developing a Resistance Fall of Man 4 or resistance remastered with multiplayer. Sony doesn't even have a single multiplayer exclusive game whereas during the PS3 era we had resistance, Warhawk, KILLZONE, socom, MAG, etc.

I think there needs to be a MP Marvel game and if Crystal Dynamics/Square failed, then give it to someone with a better chance of doing it right.
Unfortunate that Insomniac has to get typecast but hey. Not like they didn't try to diversify first.
Of course this will probably be something totally different, but I wouldn't care if it was pretty much a direct replacement for the last game lol.

Yea all the people who you know dont play Playstation, always say this on youtube. Like "they are turning Insomniac into a Marvel factory". I'm like SOny doesn't force anyone to make something they dont want to work on. They literally went to Insomniac and asked if they would like to work on another character and I guess Wolverine was thrown around pre-miles morales. Like when they were making spiderman 2018 they all were thinking about what other characters they would like to do.
I mean a lot of people that work at game studios love comics/animated films because those are all kind of part of the medium. Like everyone keeps saying they need to work on a new IP. I'm like why? They made tons of IP's that were great that no one bought? I mean Insomniac once they get bored or have an amazing concept for a new game can go make it whenever they want.
I think at this point Insomniac has become the new Naighty Dog/ where they can make what ever they want and Sony will fund it without hesitation.
I do like that Sony is organically making multiplayer games or Multiplayer optional add ons to existing games. They have tried so many times to make a new shooter, or online game and failed. I think they understand now that incorporating something organically that makes sense in terms of gameplay to the single player experience is the way to go for them.

No, the wolverine is after the X-Men movies specifically first 3 films. Logan left because of jeans death.
He then by the end of his run in Japan is found by Charles. Who needs his help and is working with magneto and is prelude to days of future past.
They could be following the wolverine and the X-Men story. Where after being on his own journey, he starts to seek out the individuals who make up the X-Men and we're disbanded after the x mansion was destroyed.
That could be cool, like a mass effect 2 vibe where you travel around recruiting a new/old X-Men crew.

If it was just spiderman forever then sure.
But there are plenty other Marvel characters which will need a completely different style of game. If anything they'll need to be more creative to make it not seem like a reskin of Spiderman as an example.

Opportunity cost and reality of games designed to work as services vs say getting SM64 or Galaxy and then wanting more of that.
,Even without taking about the F2P side of things, games designed to be live services are not that: they tend to be a more bare bone version of the full concept slowing the studio making it to cut their losses sooner if the game does not pick enough customers up and you produce only content there is demand for (and analytics) and you charge people for each season (maybe) on top too.
