When Winds Meet is confirmed to be a 6 month PS5 console exclusive

I had to look up the original trailer because I couldn't for the life of me remember what game this was.

Looks dope. I remember being excited when I saw it originally.

sony goes all out in china to eat that chunk of pc gaming market

huh? not relevant to my reply though.

This is the most aggresive console marketing recently from sony, console was banned in china previously.

There will be shift in the market here. Console market is going to be larger compared to few years ago at least.

It'd be fun to see the usual suspects explaining why Black Myth Wukong wasn't officially confirmed as a timed PS5 console exclusive like When Winds Meet...

...if there is anyone still left after the massive 'fuck you!' of today, of course.

After Wukong, this was expected, Sony will most likely fight for Chinese exclusives, as this helps them to promote console sales in China region. Plus, as we see, the quality of games from China is growing, so it is worth fighting for them. Chinese market, it is such a tasty and huge piece.

Yeah dude. This will be the game that makes Chinese gamers care about consoles. Not Wukong. If 20% of worldwide sales were on ps5 for BMW, what do you think the sales split was in China? 95/5?

5% in a new market is better than nothing . Sony just started and you compare the market share in China now ?
You need to move on, nothing's wrong to see another platform grow.
Why so butthurt?

PS5 vs. PC is an uphill battle in China, there's a reason Sony's one single-player Chinese-developed game is also releasing on PC.

That 20% is worldwide. I wont knock Sony for trying to make inroads because China is now an enormous market but the customer acquisition costs are going to be insane. Juice is probably not worth the squeeze at this point

As far as I remember, they didn't publish the final figures. But in February of this year, the figure was 5 million, and that's just the PS5 version.
We have some games here that can't sell that much when released on multiple platforms...

It sure would be cool to see Sony focus more on China and less on whoever the fuck is the modern audience they've been trying to appeal to with some of their latest projects.

Give us more Astrobots and Stellar Blades and less Horizons and Concords, please.

Fight for exclusives against.......?

That article is based on the tweet I linked lol. 20% of 25 million is 5 million.
So? Since when is 5,000,000 copies sold (it's probably more now, since time has passed, plus they lowered the price for it for the first time) considered a bad indicator?

Don't grumble old man, let me hug you, everything will be fine :messenger_heart: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

lol....don't affect me a bit, but I just don't get why this is even necessary at this point. Sony afraid the Xbox resurgence is going to be based out of Hong Kong?

I don't know, man. Kinda lost interest in this one once I found out it's a free to play online MMO for mobile.

Yeah 5 million is a huge number. But again that is the worldwide sales split. What was it in China? Console gaming is simply not popular in Asia besides Nintendo in Japan.

Sony has a project called Hero, they invested in studios and projects in China, and they continue to do so to this day. And if we take into account the number of projects and studios that are in this project, huge amounts of money have been invested there. They clearly have interests in this market, and no one has managed to enter it normally yet.

Dumping onto GamePass is likely to reduce sales across all release platforms and serves nobody's interest but Microsoft's.
They aren't quitting gaming, just the traditional console market.

That's the view Xbox has had for most of the non-anglo global market since the beginning of time, and look at where that's got them.

If you've got other areas healthily ticking along to pick up the slack, you absolutely attempt to penetrate greenfield market opportunities, especially one with as much potential as China.

Well, no one argues with that. Issue is that you can't just go to new market (which is also constantly moderated and is effectively closed to everyone) and immediately expect 20,000,000 copies sold. You always have to start somewhere, and what Wukong achieved in the Chinese market is an absolutely phenomenal result. They still have a lot of work to do.

Bro consoles were literally banned in China until only a few years ago now

PC gaming is dominant in China because it's all they have ever had until very very recently

Console gaming is popular in Asia outside of Japan too, you'll see plenty of PS consoles in SE Asia, India, etc.

Yeah I won't knock it because of the upside, but PC and mobile are so entrenched. Couldn't sell consoles there until 2015. And their bizarre government policies are so unpredictable. Everything could stop on a dime and change overnight with any entertainment product over there.

If I remember correctly they've recently set up an entity there in a way which enables them to skip all the bureaucratic hurdles when it comes to distributing and selling consoles.

So at that point, they would be silly if they didn't go for it.

yea, so? this is why they're trying to change that. You can't gain an audience without trying.
