The grand conjuration
Isolation years

A release date has yet to be confirmed, but it's planned for late August/early September worldwide through Roadrunner records.

rock.

Looking forward to this. Almost picked up their live DVD the other day, but decided against it as I didn't like most of the tracks on it. Will definitely be picking this album up though.

Okay...real reason was that I had the new Pain of Salvation DVD on the way and knew that opeth would get almost no time in the dvd player. (If you've never listened to PoS, the best way I could describe them is they are to prog metal what opeth is to death metal....really incredible band). I love Opeth, but they're just not at the same level as PoS for me =)

Heh, understandable. But seriously, they cut through all of Damnation and it's absolutely amazing. Then they blow into the heavy shit for the second set and it's just as good. I love their stage attitude too ... "We're evil! Death to all! Nah, just kiddin'. We all hope you have a pleasant time tonight and make it home safely!" (not an actual quote, just a basic summary)

Yeah, I really need to get it.

Hmm..that's interesting. I have some PoS stuff lying around, but I haven't listened to it yet. I am now very excited.

You should...just be warned...it takes some people(including myself) a LONG time to really "click" with the band. Stick with them, and you will reap the rewards 1000 fold. Daniel Gildenlow( lead singer(everyone but the keyboardist sings)/guitarist(they have two)/songwritier/ album artist/everything else you can think of) is an absolutely incredibly talented man.

Great year for metal so far in between this and the latest from Strapping Young Lad, Kamelot and Dream Theater. And we've still got new albums from Children of Bodom, Exodus, Gamma Ray, etc. on the way.

Pain of Salvation are a great band, but I can't bring myself to call them metal, though they are much "heavier" than most prog rock groups.

Pain of Salvation is a weird band to try and pin a label on because they vary SO much from song to song. "Used", "!", "Nihil Morari", and "A Trace of Blood" are all quite metal I'd say, but then they go and have songs like "Nauticus" and "This Heart of Mine" which are about as far removed from metal as it gets. Then of course theres songs such as "Fandango" which are just so cracked out(and bloody awesome) that it's nearly impossible to pin any sort of genre on it other than "progressive stuff".
