If everyone else thinks the X-ray mode looks fine, then I submit.

I just can't understand how it's not jarring to be able to see the gun at all, but have it not effect the fingers. It's contrary to not only reality, but reason.

I agree with you, but this is like far down on my list of complaints about the visuals at the moment ;)

I think the problem with these screens is they need better lighting effects. I have a feeling they'll add bloom lighting and detailed characters and it'll look next gen

Remember who you are talking too. Don't bother. :D

true... i just hope these graphics improve because PD0 sounds fucking awesome in that EGM article.

don't let me down rare, make a COMEBACK. PLEASE :O

then work on KI3 you lazy brits!!

These look pretty bland, definitely. But Rare games always look crappy when they are first unveiled. SFA did. So did Kameo.

So although nothing looks exactly promising, I'm not abandoning all hope just yet.

On a related note...Microsoft IS launching a new console in six months, RIGHT? What gives with all the crappy media and non-playable E3 games? Reminds me of Nintendo shortly before the Gamecube launched, but even then their E3 was solid. W.T.F.

That can mostly be explained by the fact that the console was already out in Japan by then, or about to come out. Typically, console launches in Japan are in spring/early summer. So of course, by the time E3 rolls around, launch software and hardware is ready to be shown in full force.

It isn't the case this time with Microsoft, since the Japan launch will occur around the same time as the US one.

I'm pretty sure Gamecube came out September 2001 in Japan.

Still a full two months before the US launch of Xbox 360. I'd be curious to see how Xbox 360 launch titles are going to look like 2 months from now, running on the final hardware.

Fair enough on the Gamecube point. But then look at the Xbox at the same E3. Sure it wasn't a great showing. But there was a lot more playable software then. I played Halo, Azurik, PGR, Madden, and Oddworld. Again, I ask, WTF.

Looks great. ................................for an Xbox game, LOL AM I RITE?

"so which game looks like next gen to you? GOW or PD0? if you choose PD0... i don't know what to say you bub......"

This is a pretty biased comparison by comparing a high res, non-gameplay screen of Gears Of Wars featuring on up close charaters to a in-game, low res, dark picture of PDO featuring nothing but a gun and everything else that should have detail on it is covered by dark shadows. Try this if you don't believe me. Go ahead and compare a gameplay pic of Gears of War to that pic you posted, and see how your picture will still jump out, even though it's from the same damn game.

Not really fair to compare a multiplayer shot of a game that will support 50 players with a single player shot of a game.

Final hardware is out in July, and I'd imagine the games would have to be done some time in October to be submitted for QA and bug testing. Is three months enough time to take the game from this to a "next gen" level of visuals? This doesn't even look good for a game running on an X800.

The single player shot they showed in EGM looked just as shitty.

While I was joking before, this point should really worry you. Remember the original perfect dark? Remember 4 player with 4 bots?

The game will be good, and it will look good. It's as simple as that. It's fun to joke about it now, but anyone who is banking oin this game not being worthy of the PD name is going be in for quite a shock.

...possibly.

Nope, never played the original but I assume you're saying it was slow.

Let us not forget...

Doug Perry thinks PDZ looks nearly as good as Gears of War.

Someone dig up the article/quote from his E3 spooge-fest.

Hi Doug. ;)

should`nt all xbox360 games running with minimum 4xFSAA??? that looks really ugly for next gen...
Don't you have something better to do than to troll every Xbox threads in existence ? Yes it looks like shit, no it does not have FSAA BECAUSE IT DOES NOT RUN ON THE FINAL GPU YET !. It could very well look like shit when it will launch but IT WILL HAVE FSAA !
I'm fucking tired of seeing you in every Xbox topics. You hate Microsoft, you love Sony, we got the point now a few months ago already.

That looks better than the hallway shot in PD0. Nice subtle lighting on the tiles is really well done. The PD0 shots are just using stupid pixel shaders, over-exaggerating lighting and texturing for the sake of going 'ooh look how bumpy it is'. Just doesn't look real.

It doesn't scream next gen,but it certainly does not look like complete shit, most of you people here are so fuckin full of shit :lol

:lol I miss the effects of peeking :(

PeeDeeZee is amazing.

Amazing is PeeDeeZee.

The reason I know the final game will be better is because of the company behind it. To Rare, the game's look is of the highest priority. They won't release a game that doesn't set a standard -- or at least stand toe to toe with other titles -- with respect to the game cosmetics. They pride themselves on that, and I don't believe for a second that they'll compromise their stance. If Rare is behind it, best believe it's going to look good. Play good? Who knows.

The bones are supposed to look the same even behind walls, its part of balancing the weapon, otherwise you can tell exactly where everyone is on the map, this way theres still a bit of skill involved in working out exactly where people are.

Am I the only floored by how fucking stupid this thread has become?

People are complaining about some of the same fucking screens that were complained about the last time there was a thread about "new" PDZ screens.

The only two we haven't seen already are obviously from the same old fucking build that all the other pics came from (unless the build they showed at E3 had fucking jaggies also, which I doubt).

I hope this game meets the same fate as Forza (i.e. non-stop bashing from everyone, but the final game turns out to be really great..) For the record forza is still at 94.7% at game rankings and is 4th best game on xbox/17th overall.

The geometry and textures look a little better in those screens, but to me it seems like they were going for slightly exagerated proportions, and haevn't exactly struck a good balance between the lighting and the art styles yet, seems like they're trying to go for gritty and cartoony at the same time, in some cases it looks too perfect and computer generated.

I have a feeling a lot of the art will be sorted out before release, but art aside the actual foundation that the game is built on seems pretty solid.

*points to Metroid Prime & Zelda WW*

EDIT: I am just saying that you shouldn't base things on others' opinions, especially the game reviewers these days.

I think MS is playing the underpromise/overdeliver card again on us again. It almost makes more sense to believe they are actually showing a "fake" version of PD0 rather than the actual Xbox 360 one. I mean, come on, it's not possible it's gonna look like THAT.
