New PGR3 Interview

With any new platform comes higher expectations and great excitement about what new things will be possible in the next generation of gaming. There are extremely impressive graphical and sonic enhancements over the previous Gotham titles in the new game, but a truly great title is defined by its gameplay. What have you been able to bring to this particular party to justify the term “next gen”?

Ben Ward: It would have been very easy for us to take the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach, but where’s the fun in that? We’re not about churning out the same old game over and over again – we want to push the boundaries with each new iteration. So PGR3 brings all sorts of new features to the table as well as the new cars and tracks – such as game modes, gameplay features, online modes, and a completely rewritten handling system. We’ve also got Gotham TV, which is a revolutionary new feature which allows people to spectate on their friend’s races, or watch the world’s best racers slug it out.

The arguments over framerate in Gotham 2 by fanboys of all consoles cannot have passed you by. In the intensive optimisation process, have you managed to achieve the "magic number" of 60fps, or is the finished game locked at 30? If the latter, are you resigned to the same old arguments rearing their ugly heads, and are you worried that such debates may end up overshadowing the game itself?

Ben Ward: It’s always the small minority worrying about issues like this – the vast majority of console gamers won’t even know what a framerate is, let alone what a game is running at. But we can say that those who have seen the game have been more than happy… so we’re remaining quietly smug, and we’ll let you lot decide!

Gotham 2 was famous for its blend of great graphics and gameplay, as well as its killer online mode, but perhaps its most impressive feat was saving many marriages due to the ability for a Guest to play online! It is important in terms of divorce rates worldwide to discuss whether online Guest play is also in PGR3. Can you confirm that this feature is in the game, and if so in which online modes can they participate?

Ben Ward: Offline split screen is available in PGR3, although Xbox Live guest play is not supported. Unfortunately, this was due to pre-launch hardware issues.

Some new stuff in there I haven't read before. The rest of the 'view is here:

Good read! :)

TBH it's a bit of a shame guest play isn't supported, I guess for some people it was quite handy. But they'll probably include it in the next one...

Well atleast they made their position on framerates clear, although their games kind of did that already.

Totally, I can't blame them for being smug after the pure shit that has been posted about their abilities on their own forums.
