:lol

The portal 'feature' in the game seems quite interesting from the videos I've seen. Intriguing enough for me not to dismiss it as another doom 3 clone.

Hey, it looks like Gears of War is ripping off Prey from some of those screens. I can't believe the nerve on that CliffyB.

Did any of you folks actually watch the 11 minute gameplay demonstration? I felt the same way too (and still do, regarding the visual design), but the game looks suprisingly fun and different. The screenshots suggest generic shooter, but the game appears to be much more.

Of course, that could change if they've already revealed all their tricks and the final game offers nothing but mindless shooting between the creative sequences. Of course, if the shooting is of high quality, it could still turn out well...

Middle screen. Monster with the lights around his head.

How can it rip off of a game that isn't even finished yet? No demo, nothing more than few screens and few trailers and you call it ripping off?

Come on that's just bullshit.

I like the glowing pathway things.

Also....ermm....the fact that the images are fitting on my screen without scrolling is nice.

As long as it's got the rockin KMFDM soundtrack from 1995 it's still a must-buy!
Say bye bye to your one reason to get it. Hehe.

well, this also had screens out in 1997.

so did Duke Nukem Forever, in fact. :p

I felt the same way, the trailer showed some fun ideas.

I saw some video of it on Electric Playground the other day. The gameplay looks kinda meh, but I really liked how you could go through a "doorway portal" where you could look in it and walk right through, no cutscene or any visible loading. Just seamless one environment to another totally different one.

is KMFDM still doing the music?
Nope, the same guy that eventually did the Doom 3 music (except for the Vrenna title track) is doing it.

I guess that means no music...

The sound in Doom was pretty disappointing on the whole. Trent's original work for the game sounds MUCH MUCH better overall. It's a shame he could not complete the project.

They should go after the sound team that worked on the Thief games and System Shock 2. That was some great work...

A couple of random quotes out of a recent article in magazine PC Format (stolen from 3DR Forums, bwaha),

"Prey is based in a Dyson sphere, a monstrous construct with a small sun stabilised in the centre of a massive globe. 'It featured in an episode of Star Trek,' says Gerritson, though Rhineheart is quick to point out: 'We didn't get it from there; it was in Scott Miller's original design back in 1997, as it hadn't been done in a game before. The ship is also growing, expanding its flesh; it's not a complete sphere, you can see space and the Earth through it.' Broussard chips in, 'You'll gradually realise the ship is the primary enemy of the entire game'."

"Other Portals are one-way, or only temporary, with secrets hidden inside, if you're quick enough, and when you see a 'sphincdoor' for the first time you're going to be mildly disturbed - let alone the portals modelled after parts of the female anatomy. This game is going to be 18-rated, doubtless [This is a UK magazine]."

"3D Realms hopes that the plot and the innovative elements will be counterbalanced by more standard elements. 'We're going to give them one new element at a time,' explains Gerritson, 'ramp up the complexity of each slowly. Everything's going to be balanced; we record all of our play sessions to work out where the bottlenecks are; we collate all the data and graph that stuff, so we know where the player died, what their health was throughout, and what the stress points of each level are'."

for some reason every shooter has to have a gimmick nowadays and this game has it's little out of body thing, but the gameplay is same old boring crap with enemies teleporting behind you and attacking, alot of Doom ripping off and just... bleh.. I have no more words for it, just gibberish

Looks shit in some screens. Great in others. I like this one:-

Problem with Doom 3 engine games, is static shots really don't do the models / levels justice.

Ugh, normal mapping. I'm starting to hate it. Look at the wrinkles on the indian's pants. one side is completely fucking black. It's like normal mapping creates black holes on any side facing away from the light source.
