New Quake IV screen (X360)

100% true.
Doom 3 isn't "new & shiny" anymore. And especially on 360 - there's just so much more it can do.

It's called Modesty. And if the D3 engine was so good, there would be a lot more people taking it on board than there are right now. It's really nothing more than a stop gap engine between the gfx of previous stuff to the gfx of next gen engine's like UE3.0

The Quake 3 engine was great, no doubt about it. But the D3 is just not on the same level anymore in my opinion. And Carmack seems to be far more interested in his rockets nowadays anyway...he's made his money and he's happy living his life.
 
These guys are smart..combining DOOM like graphics to grab the DOOM customers, while still retaining the Quake name to keep the quake players
 
I'm sure the game will look super lush once it finally comes out on Xbox360. It's still got some time to go and the screenshot doesn't even have anti-aliasing and it looks to be taken from a cut scene. Not ingame.
 
I think part of the problem people see with the Doom 3 engine is that the only games running on it both look very similar similar textures and look and character design

I'd love to see some other developers get their hands on it and see what they could do with the that lighting engine as I think that's the real progress made with the Doom3 engine
