I agree with all posts here.. it really looks pretty freakin good.... but I swear what is with everyone thinking the touchscreen is best used as an analog stick replacement?

Very nice looking game, i don't mind that it's Rayman 2 cos that was an awesome game.
Also i like how more company's are using the touch screen an analog controller

It isnt even remotely close to the DC version. N64 I wouldnt know.

It looks pretty comparable to the N64 version, imho. Without the texture filtering screens won't really be flattering, but in motion it'll probably look as good as the N64 version at least. Of course, the N64 version used the RAM pack or whatever so maybe their will be some minor differences. But yeah, Mario 64 DS looks like garbage in pics but it looks so freakin' good when you actually play the DS and see it in motion. So I definitely think Rayman DS will be similar in that regard.

Yeah, in all seriousness this isn't worth comparing to DC version of the game. That one pretty much looked about as good as the PS2 version for example. To me, it looks similar to N64 version, except for the filtering.

I don't think it looks very good graphically, but I love this game so much I'll pick it up. Plus, my DS wants the lovin'.

I'm actually really happy that one of my favorite platformers of all time is making its way to a handheld. So long as the transition is smooth (I played the N64 version that had a bit of slowdown to begin with), I'm sold. Everything from the style to the game design was top notch. Ancel in top form for sure.

i find that hard to trust as the screens look to be of perfect capture quality.

Schweet. Like people have stated, it'll look better in motion.

I'm not sure what it is, but screenshots just don't cut it anymore. DS stuff looks overly pixelated compared to when you actually play it. I'm sure PSP games look more impressive with the higher quality screen. Any title with normal mapping just comes across as flat and plastic because still frames can't accurately catch the new lighting that everything will be using next gen...

But I guess there isn't much else you can do about it.

It looks like they are confining where you can use the bottom screen as a analog stick. I'm not to happy about that. Go with the Mario 64 DS system.

Well, I'm only using Mario 64 DS as a judge... because it looks repulsive in screens, but in motion it looks awesome and slightly better than the N64 version.

I can imagine this will upstage the N64 version for the fact that in N64 it suffered from a pretty low framerate, and I expect this to be very solid. Art style and color use is superv, as ususal with rayman, and I cannot wait to play this gem again. I really hope they added stuff as well.

If Mario 64 DS and Madden 2005 are any indication I can't wait to play all my favorite N64 games with much improved framerates. EA and Nintendo please port over GoldenEye w/ WiFi support.

Awwww, why'd they get rid of the stylish watermark on the top screen?

I thought it was hilarious that the back of the Nintendo DS box had that hacked-together pic of Rayman on the back, watermark and all.

I would use my bare thumb but am wary to touch the screen with it.. I hated finger prints on my other GB's... it should have been an alps but still two screens... :P

why is a fixed space a good idea? You have no feedback on your thumb position, so it would be easy to put it in the wrong place, and difficult to centre it accurately.

I haven't played Mario yet, but I would have thought automatically making the centre wherever your thumb touches down would be far more natural. Touch, move, let go. Rinse Repeat.

I am just getting used to that in mario.. they both have their advantages.. fixed placement allows for very prcise control and minimal slipping..

on the spot placement is like you said. you can move a little and take your thumb off.. then put it back on and move a little more.. etc.

logic tells me mario is possibly better, though definitely the steeper of the two learning curves.

Rayman on the DC looked amazing. much better than 95% of PS2 games. I cant compare it the PS2 Raymans though as Ive never seen them./

Better looking than Rayman 2 revolution or Rayman 3 on PS2? Color me very, very sceptical.
DC Rayman 2 had full-frame-height rendering, better (butter-smooth) image quality, and better textures than Revolution. Better framerate too, iirc. I won't speak for Rayman 3 - I don't think any version of Rayman 2 is comparable to it.

Anyway, I think it's a bit ironic that games are going to end up using the bottom screen for an analog stick after all the crowing about innovation, but it's got to be a better idea than showing the character's moods (like the early Rayman shots). I don't think there will be much of an alternative for the sort of ports most companies will want to do, anyway.

I love Mario 64DS, but the problem I have with the analog control is that when you keep moving your thumb further away from your center point, the analog "circle" moves with you and throws off my speculation of where the "center" was. I like being able to put my thumb wherever I want it, but I'd like it more if my center stayed stationary.

How dare you!?

oh wait, are you saying the DS visuals are comparable to DC or are you sayin' the DS will have a lifespan comparable to the DC?

And as easily pirated!? YARRRR

Wow, Rayman looks nice. But I'm worried about getting another Rayman port. I dunno how it ranks next to the GBA port or whatever game that originally was. But that game was recommended to me by a friend, it looked great and seemed like a worthy buy, but it's the only GBA game I regret buying. I never play it, and didn't get far into it at all.

I'm glad this turned out to be a Rayman 2 port; it's one of my favorite 3D platformers along with Mario and Conker. The graphics look sub-N64 w/RAM quality, but the screen will mask a lot of the problems. If the framerate is good it'll be OK.

My main concern now is whether or not Ubi will leave in the gibberish. Rayman in English with John Leguizamo as Globox was just wrong.

Rayman 2 DC > *; If you get the chance I highly recommend picking up that version of the game.

New original 3D Rayman plz.

I want one too but only if Ancel is involved in the project. Rayman 3 was an OK effort by Ubi, but they messed up Rayman by trying to make him cool and somewhat X-treme.

I'd also like to see a DS BG&E game. The touch screen would work well for taking pictures and interacting with AI buddies. :)

Rayman is the only GBA game I regret buying too, and I have more games for my GBA than any other system (except for possibly Playstation, but I have never known how many games I have for that as so many are loaned out). Still, Rayman 2 is very different than 1 and my problems with 1 were the shoddy control and the cramped GBA screen, which may not be as much of an issue with 2. What I have played of 2 seems more playable than Rayman 1 overall.
