New Realtime PGR3 Trailer

You both are full of shit. Go check out the videos of Forza and PGR2 next to this one and tell me these videos look less 'smooth'. There is no way to tell if a game is running faster than 30fps if the video is only 30fps.

There is actually, because the camcorder captures all 60 frames and when the footage is encoded those 30 missing frames are still present in the video in 'ghosting' form, and they act as motion blur.
Generally there's quite some difference between 30 fps videos of 30fps and 60fps games, this one in particular looks definately smoother than 30fps, some parts of it at least.

80,000 polys a car and they still aren't realistic.
Maybe it's my fuzzy memory, but I'm more impressed with the GT4 replays. They seemed more realistic than this.

And the cars do look like they are hovering. And the rims look 'off' to say the least.
I need to some some actual gameplay footage before I drop my final judgement, but this isn't looking the best.

Crowd is nice, though.
Oh Oli, you so crazy.

Sometimes I wonder why some people can't see the flaws I can. This looks far from realistic and in more than style.

Take off those Nintenbot goggles and watch the video again.

i seriously cannot beliebve those saying "it doesnt look next gen". PLEASE. what game THIS gen looks that good? Crackheads.

Do you want realism? check the motorstorm for PS3 trailer THAT is realism, and THAT is what I expect from next-gen... no less

Yep and in this months Edge they state with regard to Motostorm

"As for Motor Storm Sony claimed it was made using assests created by the developer Evolution studios. Edge however beleives the sequence was made entirely from CG specialist Realtime UK. "Neither the Sony or the Studio were prepared to reveal details. This issue arrises bacause, based on previous working methods, it seems lilely RealtimeUK would authored all assests in house. If this was the case it would make the description of the footage as "game demo" as an extreme exercise in being economical with the truth. Again don't expect this quality from launch games."

So we have 2 real time videos of PGR3 which pretty stunning to me and a Rendered movie

You better wait till PS4 then...

This vid looks stunning. I can't believe some of you don't think it looks amazing.

Try not being a fanboy for a minute and look at the vid again...

The GT series has always had a deep feeling of 'realism' in the replays due to Polyphony going clusterfuck insane with trying to replicate the visual appearance of real-life vehicle physics - the exact way the cars bounce, sway, lean, accelerate, brake, yadda yadda. Even when the visuals are technically less 'realistic' than another game, GT still emits an underlying feeling of reality better than almost anything else. Really folks, it's largely about MOTION. Not polygon count or texture resolution or reflections. It's why we get the uncanny valley effect with lots of CGI human characters - they may have perfect skin and hair, but they don't -move- the way our brain is wired up to accept as completely real.

That said, Bizarre was never going for the same kind of perfect, unvarnished realism Polyphony is obsessed with. Their stuff has been a combination of realism and arcade (which, personally, I enjoy).

And the video does remind me that I still like Bizarre's city construction and modeling better than anything I've ever seen another developer achieve. Those guys really do capture the look of a real environment, that exists "beyond the track" - it's not just window dressing sitting on the sidelines. Even GT4's meticulously constructed real-life city courses just don't seem as real feeling to me as the cities in the graphically "inferior" Metropolis Street Racer back on the Dreamcast.

Don't misquote me, and don't spin my words. We have not said anything which even hints at what framerate the game will run at. We told you that we're aiming for 60, but we're not promising anything at this stage. How silly would we look if we promised 60fps and then could only deliver 30?

Don't start a conspiracy theory just yet!

Yes it's in-game.

I hate the "if you don't find it impressive you're a fanboy" shit. I think I've shown enough that I can give other systems and game companies a fair shot. I've been very impressed with titles I would never even play, so don't pull that shit.

Something just looks off about PGR3... Very off.
Most of it is because there is a lack of realism both in style and how things should interact. Cars should never look like they are hovering. Rims should not look like they do in that trailer. I say if you can't admit the apparent flaws with what we've seen of the game then you're probably the extremist here.

I dont think its just that, even Forza's replays dont have that same feel. Kaz or whoever at PD is in charge of the Replay camera system(height, tracking, zoom and movement) has something special that other devs cant seem to come close to replicating. GT games have always had the best replays ever since the original.

whatever at the 30 vs 60 debate these threads always get lowered to. How about that Skyline sound in the 8 min. demo!!!!!!!! Now THAT's what a blow off valve sounds like. Finally a turbo car that doesn't make the same looped whistle noise, that shit sounds authentic!!!

Olimario, so you have sat at the side of a Road and watched a 430 go past at 100MPH and studied the rims have you? Nope thought not. The Car models look fantastic to me, perfect? No. But hey if they were perfect they would be the real thing or Photo's. The depths people go to critique games.

Hahah, I still cant get over how that Cadilac sounds like my johndeer riding lawnmower. The Ferrari sounds like a freakin symphony, just amazing! and the Viper engine gave me goosebumps.

I've been on this earth long enough to tell when something created on a computer looks real or looks obviously fake. It's the reason why can look at the Matrix Reloaded and plainly see which characters during the fights are real and which are not.

The cars look like they are hovering. I've never seen that effect in real life.
The rims look off. I've never EVER seen rims look like that.

The hovering look comes from the fact that the camera is locked on the car's body while the wheels and track move all over the place.

Olimario, As I said have you seen a 430 going at high speed and studied the rims (rims for godsakes, which you will not see in game). No. So you can't say if they look off or not because you have never seen them in motion. From the shots of the cars when not in motion the rims look pretty well rendered to me. I assume the hovering look which you go on about, will be sorted well before launch, although to be honest I can't see a major problem and its a problem people complain about, regarding a whole bunch of racers, none of which ended up with the said problem. Finally, are you going to buy a 360 and PGR3? If not why are you so concerned about its merits or in your case its negatives?

u must be joking

Great level of detail but I'm with Oli on the car models. I don't know if it's the lightning or textures or something. They are very impressive but they very much look more rendered than real. The rim effect is also horrible. It's like the rims glow or something. No I haven't seen a car move at 400mph and no I haven't dodged bullets in slow motion but I know when graphics don't come off as natural.

You mean nothing less than stunning?

ahaha, i wrote that in excitement before i went out. :D

PGR3 is nothing less than stunnning. What we see here is realtime footage of replays and Gtv action camera angles. The revealing part about the PGR3 footage is what i expected next gen to be about all along. Think NES--> Snes instead of SNES -> N64.

incidental details that would have been a chore to accomplish this gen can be thrown in to add to the realism or fantasy of the game. eg. embossed logo on the Ferrari wing mirror.

The reflections and lighting impress me more than anything. wow.

can't wait till i can get hold of this in winter. i'll fail all my exams. :lol

Rims look fine to me. Just looks like direct sunlight on almost chrome-like metal rims.

Here is what some difused sunlight on a real Sagaris looks like:

First Gran Turismo 5 pic? lol

I know next to nothing about cars, but holy heck is that trailer ever impressive. The scenary had me gasping for air, now THAT'S next-gen. Really great stuff.

The hovering look comes from the fact that the camera is locked on the car's body while the wheels and track move all over the place.

Quoted for Truth and man, that Sagaris is fugly. It's like a Viper fucked a TVR and they had a retarded baby.

That looked really good to me. The most impressive part to me was the audio demo in the xboxyde video. Really shows how shittilicious Gran Turismo's engine sounds are. :P

I hope to buy only one console this gen, and 360 isn't it.

That said, I think this video is very impressive, and certainly a showcase for next gen.

We've come a long way since "Night Driver," folks. Enjoy it.

PGR3 *looks* good enough PER FRAME. now I want to see how MANY frames per second we will get. 30 FPS will just kill the excitement for me. it happened with PGR2, it happened with Dreamcast's MSR and with Melbourne House's LeMans 24.

60 FPS or bust :)

High framerate sources can be sampled to lower framerate outputs for extra smoothness/definition just like high resolution images can be sampled to lower res outputs with supersampled FSAA. In the case of framerate, the effect is a temporal anti-aliasing.
