New Resident Evil for PSP?

Speaking of Capcom on the PSP, it's only a matter of time before we start hearing about a LOT more titles from the publisher. Did you see Resident Evil on the DS? It's not long until the PSP Resident Evil gets announced (and it's not a remake). And there are a lot more Capcom franchises that will follow...

Bit of insider info for you. Last year, at a major Capcom board meeting in Japan, president Kenzo Tsujimoto was found sitting at the head of the table playing Hot Shots Golf on the PSP. This is a man who, although he's done much for this industry, rarely has time for games anymore. He was absolutely hooked on the game. The meeting started, he held up the PSP and said: This is the future and we must support it.

Obviously, I was not there and this is second hand, but the point remains: expect to see a lot of Capcom titles on the PSP.

One of Qman's old EGM rumors stated that PSP would get a RE game that uses the RE4 camera system.

EGM May 2005 issue

"PSP GETS EVIL
Expect this one to play a lot like RE4 and--get this--star a grown-up Sherry Birkin, who first appeared in RE2..."

Yes, the future is all about making the PSP a DUMPING GROUND FOR PORTS. People must play DarkStalkers Chronicles: The Chaos Tower, Mega Man Legends, Breath of Fire III, Street Fighter Alpha 3: Double Upper, and more all over again! Because people don't care for ORIGINAL CONTENT. Yes, that's the freakin' ticket!

PORTS FOR LIFE MUTHAFUCKAS!

Ahhh...

You know when Capcom released that press-release saying they're making 12 or so PSP titles that'll launch this year and next...

I think we're getting close to 'show-time'

Darkstalkers, BoF III, Street Fighter Alpha 3---I hate to assume and speak for all of GAF but a lot of people seem to be looking foward to BoF III and SF Alpha 3 more so than most others PSP titles--even if they are original or not.

But I thought we already filled in all the gaps on the titles from that announcement.

These have to be new, right?

Didn't MML and BoF3 sell really badly in Japan?

As long as we get that Sherry game I'll be happy.

Technically, I suppose you could add Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble in the mix. :P

SFA3: DU is not a port. It's more like a non-sequel sequel, in that it does not make drastic improvements, but a few neat additions here and there.

Using Street Fighter Alpha 3: Saikyo Dojo as the template and simply adding the character of Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution does not warrant it as a "sequel".

Plays like RE4 and stars Sherry? Sounds good. I'm excited. Now show us some outstanding footage of this and DMC Capcom.

Capcom (as worded by their press release) said something to the effect of, "12 new PSP projects will be announced and released in the coming fiscal periods/year."

A few projects (such as Viewtiful Joe PSP, and Breath of Fire III) were already announced before March 31st when Capcom made the IR 2004 fiscal report available.

Ghosts and Ghouls, is one of these 'new 12 PSP projects'

What will constitute the other 12?

Well, obviously--we have so far:

Devil May Cry Series PSP
Onimusha PSP (not 'officially' announced yet...but...duuurrrr)
Resident Evil PSP
Ghosts and Ghouls

Some say these will be ports--but I must give an big "owled" O RLY to that.

The producer of DMC3 (currently AFAIK is also producing DMC for PSP and Monster Hunter PSP, being developed from the same studio) He said DMC for PSP (and I quote) "Will play differently than any other previous DMC, but the elements of what DMC stands for will be seen by it's fans." (okay, not exact quote, but same message) I'm really hoping for a 2D DMC game. The PSP is wholly capable of 3D graphics, to say DMC PSP is something different really implies it's not 3D. Because if DMC PSP WAS 3D, then it'll be similar to DMC1,2,3. You can't make DMC into a FPS or something...shit, got bad vibes all of a sudden.

We now already have rumors that RE PSP is going to be some Sherry based game, and even --still-- RE DS seems to be doing a pretty decent job of mixing up the RE1 formula so it's not a complete tired port. And the PSP is obviously a bigger market for RE than DS so it's not out of the question to expect a totally new original RE project.

Onimusha PSP, now, I'll stay quiet on this one. As there is no ounce of info/rumor on this. But, to say it'll be something new isn't such a stretch. There was Onimusha Buraiden and Onimusha Tactics.

If Darkstalkers can sell over 100,000 units in America (despite being pirated --due to it's small game size-- and the 'hate for 2D' stigma), I'm sure DMC and RE can DO SIGNIFICANTLY better. These aren't one-region killer apps--it's not GTA--, but they are good worldwide sellers and will probably share the success of MGA.

Why did people say Super Mario 64 DS is a port then? :lol

I meant in the same way Guilty Gear XX#Reload is a sequel to GG XX

And will there be tag teams (As rumored)? And the inclusion of the characters from the GBA version of SFA3U? On a non shitty screen, in 'normal' Capcom resolution?

Oh HELL yes! This is MINE!

Ok, SF3: DU PSP is sounding better. :)

hey they didn't lie, its not a remake...
repsp6jt.jpg

its a fuckin port.

A portable version of SFA3 is a good thing IMO. I'd like to see Capcom Classics Collection get a portable release, too. MML and BoF3 on the other hand are shovelware, and I don't have high hopes for Viewtiful Joe either, seeing as how fighting game spinoffs for action games are usually crap.

I think that's a playstation cap, just cut off from the bottom and scaled in from the sides to fit PSP res. I remember Legs in that scene, or at least more of the balcony or something. Looks odd to me for some reason.

Well if it's 12 (I thought it was 10), jarrod wrote it like...

01 Breath of Fire III (JP)
02 DarkStalkers Chronicle (EU)
03 Devil May Cry (WW)
04 Monster Hunter Portable (WW)
05 Rockman Dash (JP)
06 Rockman Dash 2 (JP)
07 Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper (WW)
08 Viewtiful Joe RHR (WW)
09 Ghouls'N'Ghosts 'Extreme' (JP)

Still Speculation/Unconfirmed/Unannounced

10 Resident Evil PSP (WW)
11 Onimusha PSP (WW)
12 ???

I guess if we don't count DarkStalkers EU (do we?), that would leave two we haven't even speculated/heard about...

Like I said in the other thread, there's some screens here already in the correct aspect ratio. I didn't do anything to the screens.

Brand new Resident Evil for PSP? First Makaimura and now this? There's been a lot of smashing PSP announcements lately. :)

A new RE game for PSP would be great, but Im not interested in some crappy port. As for the new 12 copcon PSP games, please let one of those be DMC, that would be enough for me:D

Holy Crap! I will become a PSP fan-brat at the blink of an eye if it plays ANYTHING Like RE4 that Bitch is MINE!!

AHHHHHHH!! :D

So hows the aiming on PSP's analog nub compared to something like the Wavebird or Dual Shock? I've heard the aiming in Code Arms wasn't all that great was it because of the nub or lack of an intuitive control scheme?

It doesn't compare favourably to either because... for one, there's only a single analog stick. And for another, the analog nub is in a pretty uncomfortable position. Coded Arms did the best it could in terms of the controls in the situation, by just giving the player a plethora of customization options and letting them go to town. You pretty much can't do much more than that in terms of PSP FPS/aiming controls.

It can definitely work fine, developers just need to keep the limitations in mind and design intuitive gameplay around it.

New PSP Ghosts and Goblins game makes up for all the ports in the world they could possibly throw at it.
