New Sakaguchi Interview from Kikizo

Thanks....reading now...

Kikizo: The footage that we have seen of the titles, is it in-game footage or is it an estimate of what you think you'll achieve in the timeframe?

Sakaguchi: As for Blue Dragon, that's an estimate of the visuals, but with Lost Odyssey, what you have seen is about fifty per cent real time.

WTF does 50% real-time mean??

WTF does 50% real-time mean??
I'm guessing it means 1 of 3 things:

1. - the footage is representative only 50% of what they will be capable of realtime, on Xbox 360 (i.e.: the realtime graphics on Xbox 360 will look 'twice as good' , as what has been shown)

2. - 50% of the footage that has been show is representative of the realtime graphics, but the other 50% of the footage that has been shown is too much for the Xbox 360 to handle in realtime (i.e.: perhaps 50% of the footage is representative of pre-rendered CG graphics that will be in the game, while the other 50% is representative of realtime footage)

3. - [the opposite of #2] 50% of the footage that has been shown is representative of the realtime graphics, but the other 50% of the footage that has been shown does not look as good as what the Xbox 360 can display

Yeah, that or maybe it was real-time footage but it was running naturally at a clog-tastic framerate and had to sped up to be shown to the public.

Then there also #4: what Sangreal said (part of the video shown is GC, while other parts are realtime)
yes, I have now edited my post so that my option #2 is kinda' what sangreal mentioned :D

ya, I guess that could be it too, it could be something to do with the frame rate..

Kikizo: So, we see now that Square Enix is working for Xbox 360 as well. Do you see them as a companion company that is in the same industry as you - or do you view them as a competitor now?

Sakaguchi: Well, even I was surprised when they made that announcement. But those people are my old colleagues, so I want them to create good work too, because I want to make these two titles as great as possible. So when they see them they'll be stimulated to make something better - and it's good, because overall, we create good work as an industry.
He's gone up in my book.

that interview fills me with excitement. Especially trying to change JRPG formula.

Go on Sakaguchi, do it again, set the new standard for JRPGs!

He could just mean a mixture of in-game assets and CG, like Kobold suggested.

There were more interesting bits of the interview, in my opinion. Such as BD not having cartooney environments, which I think could be weird (edit: in the video interview, I got the impression he wasn't talking about the environments, just the lighting), and not being able to die in LO.

Yeah, I liked his comments about the JRPG genre stagnating.

It's Miyamoto Musashi, and he was one of the most legendary samurai of all-time! Just calling him a martial artist is like calling Michael Jordan "just some basketball player" :)

Surprised he didn't know Vagabond was out in English though. All 20 volumes are already available in the US.

I agree ... in many JRPGs we have kinda' been stuck with the same sort of turn-based formula for awhile now.. it is nice that finally someone in the industry who is known for JRPGs is acknowledging this fact :)

It's just the first page anyway. I guess someone forgot to close a bold tag.
Anyhow, Lost Odyssey sounds hot - an RPG where the main char cannot die is gonna be interesting.

He was referring to the LO trailer, which was in fact, only like 50% graphics at all and the rest was montage type stuff. That is why he said 50%. Nothing to do with the game itself having fake graphics or anything, he was refering to "the footage you have seen" i.e. the trailer, specifically.

I wish that the text wasn't all bolded.

Damn, our bad - fixed (IE rarely shows up this problem!)

Hmm, didn't Planescape:Torment have something like this?

Xbox 360 sounds like RPG heaven between Mistwalker, Nippon Ichi, From's titles, SquareEnix, and the whole lot.

Wait... Nippon Ichi is confirmed to be working on an X360 project?
