New screens from RE4 PS2

Quick count in my head, I think the DS2 has 3 extra buttons over the GC pad (one more shoulder plus the two analog stick buttons). Or 4 if you count the select button.

I wouldn't want them mapping critical gameplay functions to the analog buttons, but maybe put the map and the Ashley commands to them. That would free up some face buttons.

I thought about this while playing the GC version, thinking, these grenades are starting to take up a fair amount of inventory space, if only I could quickly access them, I'd probably think to use them in more situations.

I know this'll get lost here on pg6 but what are the chances of them taking advantage of the extra shoulder button to give us quick grenade access? Would be mighty handy.

Okay, finally some real good discussion. I was just thinking of this of today, all the buttons are accounted for on the PS2, but then there is the extra shoulder button. Quick grenade access would diffinately rock. Heck, there is the the 2 analogy sticks themselves, they are buttons also, if they could be used to switch between granades, or weapons that would be really kickass.

they should allow an option to use the D-Pad as a 4-way quick select weapon "button" (who used the D-pad in RE4 anyway?)

Well, the Ashley commands can be left on the face buttons. There is no need to switch that around. Placing the maps on one of these would be good. Preferabbly the right because there is less of a chance of it being pressed in on accident. That way both the secondary shoulder buttons can be used for instant weapon/item access.

Yeah, the d-pad was pretty pointless in RE4. With the 4-way d-pad, 2 analog stick buttons, select, and an extra shoulder button, you really could free up the face buttons for other things.

Good point, even more buttons (that should have been in the GC version as well).

This has got me thinking, how would they do new RE gameplay on the PSP I wonder. I'm not past the village yet so I don't know how the rest of the game pans out, but I can't think when I've ever really used the camera stick that much (more out of curiosity). Other than that the GC controls would map neatly onto the PSP.

And weren't there rumours (or confirmation) of a DS RE1 remake with the RE4 gameplay style? This is one game where touch screen inventory would not be a waste of the function.

You know if they really wanted to keep some variation of the the quick swinging left or right camera stick for the PSP, they could just map it to the left and right shoulder buttons and use d-pad for attack with the gun or knife since you don't move when attacking anyway.

If they really did add all those unique functions to the DS2 I would sell my Cube version of RE4. I would keep my fingers crossed but this team porting this game doesn't come off that smart to me.

BTW is the Chainsaw as a mellee weapon confirmed? It's a bit much like the typewriter it might take away any challenge but it sure as hell would be fun to play with before the novelty wears off.
