New SFV CFN Beta and more content in April

We are happy to announce the test has allowed us to make further adjustments to optimize the new CFN. We know you’re all very eager for the new CFN but we also want to ensure it meets all of our expectations before it officially launches. In order to help us get the new CFN to where it needs to be, we are looking into conducting an additional Beta Test soon. In case you missed what the new CFN entails, check out our previous blogpost here.

For the potential additional Beta Test, current and new players will be able to participate in the beta for FREE and all released characters will be unlocked for play for the duration of the test, including the next Season 2 DLC character. The identity of the new Street Fighter V character will be revealed soon.

Also, closely tied to the new CFN are the new Season 2 Balance Updates and the next Season 2 DLC Character. For the full list of balance changes, check out our previous blogpost here. These additional balance changes and the next Season 2 DLC character were originally planned to launch at the end of April. Since both of these were developed under the new CFN infrastructure, they have to release alongside the new CFN when it is ready.

More details and the exact timing of the next CFN Beta Test will be announced in the coming weeks. Thank you all once again for helping us make the new CFN the best it can be.

There is still to-be-announced content coming to Street Fighter V at the end of April. For the latest updates on Street Fighter V, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

It's good they want to release the CFN update with better stability but it's a shame the character was delayed. We should find out about him/her in April it seems and should be playable for free on the beta, and other content should be announced shortly for April.

Good to see they are taking this a little more seriously. The last beta didn't go for long enough but hopefully they were able to make more significant changes.

Hopefully the new character comes out sooner than later. They need to hurry up and announce that content they have under wraps.

Nice, I'm excited to play as the Season 2 characters. The season pass is away too expensive, so I usually have to wait until all the characters are out and for the pass to get a discount like I did for Season 1.

Any chance at all the new content could include an arcade mode? Things seem to have gone very quiet on that.

Sweet. I have enough Fight Money for one new character, so now I get to kick the tires before plopping down my hard earned digital tokens.

I mean, I'm not in a hurry to play the new character so I don't mind the delay. But just tell us who he/she is ffs! My curiosity is killing me right now.

It's a possibility, since its development was datamined a while back, but we don't know when Capcom will release the mode.

That said, I'm more thank okay with Capcom taking their time to make sure they get the CFN update right. As for the character, if he/she is heavily tied to this update, then I can understand the reason for the delay. I may have to use my little bro's PC to test the newbie out whenever the next beta goes live. I really hope that Capcom makes beta-testing DLC characters a regular thing going forward.

I also wonder how the DLC character is 'closely tied' to the new CFN? What exactly is the reason that they have to be pushed out at the same time?

I'd imagine that most of the testing for the new character was directly tied to the new balance changes as well as the CFN updates they're doing.

Patch got delayed because Bonchan called Capcom elementary kids when it comes to balancing.

But seriously, why delay the patch? I understand everything else though. Disappointed about the character delay.

Still no mention of improved visuals for the pro.
That's the least of their worries in my opinion.

I have a pro and I prefer they fix the actual game first. I'm really curious as to how many people are working on the game with the slow progress they make.

Said they are developed under the new CFN. So the new CFN probably has different way of adding/changing content compared to how it is done with the current one.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

They must have 4 people working on this game with how slowly things have been progressing. Also, what's up with the wording? "We had an extremely SUCCESSFUL beta! So successful that we want to have another one!" Huh? That's the kind of thing you say for things like, "we had a SUCCESSFUL free multiplayer weekend so we want to have another one!"

That sounds kind of high.

1 guy was working on the netcode so...

Successful as in they got a lot of usable information from it to fix problems they were having and want now to make sure with new beta that they got fixed instead of releasing something that doesn't work.

Will this break compatibility with cosmetic mods?

Doubt that. Just means we might not have to deal with 8 hour maintenance every time something is added. Then again I don't work at Capcom so what do I know.

Absolutely embarrassing in my opinion. Communication is nice, but not if all they have to communicate is how incompetent they are at getting things out timely and in good shape.

The beta almost feels like it was an excuse to push things out, what kind of feedback were they expecting and planning on implementing that would have only taken a week or two to add? Now with a new beta date not even sent, it's looking like late May at best before the stuff they promised releases. It's gonna be really something to look back on how SF5 looks at the end of its lifecycle because this is such a mess.

That would be nice. I appreciate that they have chosen to cater mainly to the hardcore competitive community, but I sincerely hope that they do put a basic arcade mode into the game, even a no frills basic ladder. I really like this game mechanically, but I'm no where near good enough to play against people online. At the start I was okay, but now I'm left behind. So hopefully eventually they will throw us casuals a bone. The story mode was okay, but it doesn't scratch that classic arcade mode itch.

So dlc and patch are delayed? Am I reading that right?

Some DLC, including costumes, stages, and more will be launching on April 25. The patch with the season 2.1 balance update, CFN update, new character, + more goodies is launching in May now.

Iirc there is an active AI in practice mode so you can play against it there while waiting for arcade mode. Not the same I know but better than nothing.

Can you just tell us if the Alex/Ibuki nostalgia costumes are coming any time soon, or has Capcom legitimately forgotten about them?

So I am guessing that the new patch notes we got are going to be final? Nothing was mentioned about them making any other tweaks.

Or he could just play Versus mode against the CPU.

Still, the best way to get better is actually to just play against other people online.

I found the new CFN and updates pretty good so if they wish to improve it further then by all means take the necessary time.
Are you talking about the new CFN that's supposed to come out later on? If so, then have you noticed any changes to the account lock system?

Zero.

It's been over a year and they haven't even released the Extra Battle mode which was supposed to come soon after the game's release back in early 2016. They've most likely given up on SP features for this game as a whole, which is the right thing to do after how they messed up the launch.

Yup but that's only if you care about multiplayer, a lot of people enjoy playing fighters on their own. Which is probably why games like MK do so well (with all their single player content).

That CFN beta was PC only so no way to test that.

I realize it's a bit inconvenient but why not just play the game on the account that you bought the game/DLC on? Unless it's a shared account?

Account lock system?

On PS4 you can't use the stuff that you buy through PSN, on your other accounts. I have a pre-order costume for Chun-Li yet I can't use it on my EU account since I've bought it from NA PSN.

I basically can't buy any DLCs for this game, thanks to them locking your PSN contents to one account.

Oh, I see.

That's not my main account. I don't use it for anything else other than buying PS4 games from NA PSN. All of my save files (including everything that I've done with SFV) are on my EU account and that's the account that I use to play with friends. Not to mention that I've had that since my PS3 days. So, it would be a pretty big inconvenience to switch to my NA account now.

Yeah against my better judgement I caved and picked up the game recently because it was on sale and I had built up some Steam credit. I've enjoyed playing it online for a little while in my scrub tier but I feel I've reached my limit now and am missing arcade mode. Its nice to have the excuse to use characters other then my main. I wouldn't win a single match online if I switched to certain people but I wouldn't mind attempting to get through a single player ladder with them. Story mode you barely get any time with anyone and survival is just trash.

I think it's a bit of a double edged sword. If they don't communicate and they ignored everyone in April as well as give us a new CFN that is broken then there would have been a huge outcry. This way at least they are working on it until the time is right and PC folks get to play all DLC characters (including the new one) for free - all of which they are announcing shortly.
