New Snowboard Kids DS Preview @ 1up

Not too much by way of new details. Interesting to see that there are trick stages, and boss battles of sorts. I wish it commented on whether or not the lift is gone, as that was one of the best features of the original, particularly in multiplayer mode.

The microphone hasn't been ignored, either. Certain debilitating attacks enshroud characters in a screen obscuring fog or put them to sleep, requiring players to blow into their DS or yell at it, respectively. Which is great if you want to have a seat all to yourself on the bus.

I'm a sucker for mic usage, so I reckon this is pretty neat.

I always want a seat to myself on the bus / train.
I hate people I don't know. Well, being crowded by them anyway.

Plus, this is SBK. This purchase will be a foregone conclusion.

God dammit, DS has been out for almost a year. You'd think 1UP would stop being lazy and fix their DS thumbnails so they don't look like shit.

(Oh, and SBK looks cool.)

Check out the video, its about 5 minutes long, and looks pretty good.

Plus it features the chairlift, so that is definitely back in. Around 2 minutes in you go through a narrow entrance, and reappear at the top of the mountain.

Also funny to see a game advocating button mashing explicitly!

god I hate microphone usage in game :(

Same here, especially for handhelds. :/ It's impossible to play something that uses a mic in public without looking like an ass, especially when you're expected to shout or blow into it, and it also makes it tough to play at home while your SO/family is trying to sleep. It's just... meh.

Uh, there is no need to have to play at home while people are sleeping. You don't need to yell.

I meant I was worried that I wouldn't be able to play at home while people are sleeping, for fear of waking them.

A good example of what I'm talking about is the Lunar DS interview that ran in a recent issue of Play. In it, they mentioned that the game uses the mic--you're supposed to shout into it in order to make your party run from battles. I had this mental image of me hunched over my DS, whispering, 'Run! Run!' as I'm watching my party being slaughtered, because I can't raise my voice enough to make them run away. =/

Yeah, I know what you meant. My reply just came out wrong.

You still don't need to yell. I'm sure you can just blow into the mic really hard or just say close to the mic and it will work just as well. You won't need to worry about waking anyone up. :P

Unless Lunar actually makes you scream, which would be hilarious.

If you just have to make noise, not say anything specific, then just rubbing your finger over the Mic slot might work just fine. It worked in Feel the Magic for the game where you needed to make noise to get the girl's attention.

I hope the guy was playing on some SUPER easy mode, because there was practically no competition in the video :\
