What's the trouble with Sonic 3? Music licensing?
Yeap. Michael Jackson.
What's the trouble with Sonic 3? Music licensing?
What’s the deal with Sonic 3 btw? Why can’t they release it again??
Which is a shame because Sonic 3&K music totally rocks.Michael Jackson did some of the songs from the game, I guess Carnival Night, Ice cap and Launch base. SEGA always have this shit licenses problems, if you remember Shinobi countless revision.
If you played Sonic 3 Knuckles Collection for PC, all musics with licenses got traded for the prototype music.
Yeah, could very well be educated guesses + fake news. In case there's some truth behind it, though, it wouldn't sound bad at all.I'm calling fake. The timing of his "leak" is too convenient, especially as most of the information is actually now just based off what is already out there (voice actors leaving, tyson hesse saying that sega not interested in classic sonic, sonic prime's tone direction etc)
And as if he was told there are mutiple playable characters although he was not told who they actually were? So his informants just happened to hold back that information but had no problem spilling the rest? Doesnt add up.
The rest just seems like educated guesses, especially what is obviously going to be Sega's next move in ditching the boost.
Why does Sega seem to have such a hate boner for Mania? It's obvious they can't make a great 3D Sonic(I hope they do someday), so why not go with proven success?
Which is a shame because Sonic 3&K music totally rocks.
But yeah, I can see why it's a licensing minefield.
That's one of the most confusing parts of this that made me want to doubt this is true, the DIMPS games sucked, they were hated, they got a reputation for trashy gameplay, they had a chance at doing "Classic Sonic" with Sonic 4 and royally fucked it up, ...so SEGA decide to hire them AGAIN for a new 2D Sonic??????? Especially when the Mania team is right there who have just put out one of the best Sonic games of the past decade and half!hiring Dimps again,
How is Mania anything other than a one-off celebration?Let's see if I get this straight...
They're shoving Sonic Mania, which btw is one of most praised Sonic games in a long time, calling it a "fanmade old hat", even though it is an official game from Sega, hiring Dimps again, which btw wasted decades trying(and failing) to do what Mania just did in its first attempt and still gonna have the courage to release a collection with no Sonic 3?
Why those recent Sonic rumors looks like real bad? If this ends up being true its only shows me they don't give a damn about Sonic at all.
Probably because of Sonic Team. I mean, how dare Taxman and his team did a sucessfull game against a Team of Sonic games veterans?
They can do but they won't because they're lazy and incopetent.
Sonic 3 does not need Michael Jackson music. They have an alternative soundtrack from Sonic 3 prototype, which could be easly swapped and end this licensing stupid problem. They already did that(kinda) with the Mega Collection from PC ages ago.
How is Mania anything other than a one-off celebration?
It's cool and colorful (and Studiopolis zone is AMAZING) but for the most part is really copy-paste of Mega Drive chapters, with worse wall collisions and very crap bosses. I liked the game but, frankly, that's not something to serialize. Just like Streets of Rage.
I agree DIMPS is confusing but Rush and Rush Adventure were very good and totally fun, so there's that.
As for S3 licences, if it was simple they probably would have already done that.
A copy paste that Sega didn't have the competency to do with their most "modern" games anyway. And it's not like they didn't tried to do this through years, Advance series, Rush and Sonic 4 were all failed attempts(while implementing a dumb thing here and there). To say that Mania is just one-off celebration is pure downplaying its sucess.
Pff, Rush and Rush Adventure were no different from Advance 3 in terms of formula, although in Sonic Advance 3 it wasn't exactly a boost but it was the starting point of it. Really those games are not a big deal, its nothing but a lamish boost game.
They don't do that because they don't want to waste resources in making a decent collection. Either they just want to cash grab(like they have being doing for years) or they lack competent programers to do this type of work. If it wasn't for Taxman, Mania would nothing but a failed attempt like Sonic 4 was.
Not getting my hopes up on this one. Sega isn't that good. They won't do this. I guarantee it.A potential goodie for us Adventure fans in regards to the casting.
Ryan Drummond Confirms Agent Reached Out to SEGA to Reprise Sonic Role
It's only been a week since Roger Craig Smith announced that he is no longer the official voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, but former actor Ryan Drummond has confirmed that his agent has contacted SEGA with an interest in reprising the role. Sonic's 30th Anniversary And What To Expect.
Hey all. Hope everyone reading this has had a great first month of the year. So, before we begin, let me get the reason I made this blog i...zippospeaks.blogspot.com
- The rest of the current voice cast will be following Roger Craig Smith (Sonic), Cindy Robinson (Amy), and Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails) on their departures.
- Warren Graff and Ken Pontac will no longer be writing for the games. (Already semi-confirmed through LinkedIn and a recent interview with Ken Pontac.)
- SEGA of America is in charge of the series - management done by a branch known as the 'Sonic Pillar' in Irvine, California. They're calling the shots when it comes to games, merch, social media, etc. SOJ is well aware of how much more popular the franchise is in the west, so they've been entrusted with its care.
Development still being done by Sonic Team Japan.
- The 30th Anniversary is being described as a new "era" for Sonic.
Modern Sonic will be the focus for the franchise going forward in both 2D and 3D games. Mania was apparently a one-off thing (with Classic Sonic being described as "old hat"), and fans of the classic era should look to fangames for further installments, such as Sonic Mania Megamix, Sonic Galactic, Sonic Roboblast 2, Sonic 2 HD, etc.
- There will be a split in both 2D and 3D gameplay; 2D will only exist in exclusively 2D games, and 3D games will be exclusively 3D from this point forward.
- A new Sonic collection is rumored to come out in June. Will include a majority of classic games and also games that haven't been in circulation for years.
Won't include Sonic 3.
- Status of new Mario&Sonic Olympics game is tentative at the moment due to the pandemic and controversy surrounding
China.
- New Modern Sonic 2D game.
Possibly developed by Dimps.
- Next 3D Sonic game will:
-Not feature boost
-Full 3D game
-Features return of spindash in 3D and character upgrades
-More playable characters rather than solely Sonic
-First game conceptualized by the 'Sonic Pillar' in the US.
-Entirely new team at Sonic Team, featuring a bunch of new hires post-Forces.
-Cross-gen game
-Holiday 2021, although might get delayed to 2022 if quality standards aren't met.SEGA wants to get this one right.
-No tie-in with the movie franchise.
- Reveals should start rolling out from the next few weeks to the end of March, although an announcement might come in a couple of days.
- More guest appearances in other games, similar to Puyo Puyo Tetris.
You’re not a Sonic fan, my guy. It’s been fucking 25 years since the last 2D Sonic game from SEGA. The future of the franchise doesn’t lie with a fucking sprite games made by some fan. And you do realise the writing staff for Sonic games has been shifted twice since 06, right? Jesus, you’re edgy.
Imagine watching Star Wars without John Williams. What’s the deal with Sonic 3 btw? Why can’t they release it again??
edit. Just saw the reply above.
Why can’t they just change the music track? Can’t be that hard...
Well people above are saying there’s already another version and it’s fine.Imagine watching Star Wars without John Williams.
Removing such an iconic part of Sonic 3 and Knuckles would be a detriment to the experience.
I'd agree usually but since this is a constant thing that prevents new versions of the game from being released it's getting annoying, especially when there's an alternate for the tracks MJ worked on and even unused stuff:Imagine watching Star Wars without John Williams.

But Sonic Team hasn't done a 2D Sonic since S3&K. All of the handheld games like Advance were Dimps. So Taxman has nothing to compare it to aside from 25+ years old games.Let's see if I get this straight...

Expect announcements on Wednesday...when Microsoft buys Sega.
Boom wasn't even made by Sonic Team, and it's been 14 years since 06, yet you're still hung up on it.The future of the franchise, shure! Isn't Sonic already dead since none of the 3D games are great, just 2 or 3 okey?
You can bitch 2D games as you want. It won't change how trash 3D Sonic is. It's more than trash, after 06 they've done Boom... Who does that? Read it again, after 06, they did Boom, fucking Boom that even made cried handicapped kids (there was an article on gonintendo). Who does that? After kissing a young girl in 06? Who likes that?
Oh, and you can call me edgy but I don't kiss animals and I don't make cry handicapped kids. Your 3D hereo does. Enjoy your future with your 3D friend.
But Sonic Team hasn't done a 2D Sonic since S3&K. All of the handheld games like Advance were Dimps. So Taxman has nothing to compare it to aside from 25+ years old games.
Lmao classic fans will make my brain necrotic I swear. The last 2D Sonic game developed by Sonic Team was 25 years ago. Most fans of the franchise right now grew up with the 3D era and would rather see that thrive and improve than just hand over the reigns to some fucking fan. Do GAFers actually believe the future of the franchise is 2D? When nearly all of Sonic's contemporaries have successfully made the transition to 3D?How is not nuking everything Modern Sonic from orbit, Making Mania games the foundation, learning from the past and moving forward from that point not the move?!?!!?
What the actual fuck if this is even a little bit true they are fucking morons and deserve to fail
That's your opinion, nothing more.It won't change how trash 3D Sonic is
Mine plus most of the reviews and metacritic, nothing more like you say. That's your opinion, nothing more.
Done years ago on WiiU. Still prefer Sonic & Knuckles 3 and CD aka some of the very best games ever made. Can we say that about 3D Sonic?Boom wasn't even made by Sonic Team, and it's been 14 years since 06, yet you're still hung up on it.
You clearly don't give a fuck about Sonic. If you want to play your 2D sprite games, go play Freedom Planet.
This isn’t true at all. YouTubers don’t speak for the majority of Sonic fans (even though a lot of them think they do). Otherwise, Mania would not have been the success that it was. Most fans of the franchise right now grew up with the 3D era and would rather see that thrive and improve than just hand over the reigns to some fucking fan.
ThankWarren Graff and Ken Pontac will no longer be writing for the games.
Sonic in 3D has it's moments, if you never liked adventure , no wonder you don't like the new ones since everything it's somehow a variation of sonic's ass while also traying to re invent it every time.Done years ago on WiiU. Still prefer Sonic & Knuckles 3 and CD aka some of the very best games ever made. Can we say that about 3D Sonic?
I can talk about the 2 first Sonic on the Wii too... or how half of Unleashed was trash or how not that great were controls on both the 2D sections of Generation and Colors. I can talk about the Sonic Rivals too, or Sonic the fighter.
you clearly don't give a fuck about Sonic. If you want to play 3D game, play Mario dude. While the 2D games can top the Mario's on NES and SFC, there's nothing like that with the 3D ones. Can you remind me the Sonic game that does as great as Galaxy again?
Sega, please remaster Sonic Generations. Thanks
Fixed.Sega, please remaster Sonic Adventure. Thanks
Or Colors.
Fixed.
Also, Sonic Generations came out, like, two years ago.
Oh god...
Fuck "professional" videogame critics and fuck the snobs that only care about Metacritic high scores.reviews and metacritic
Stop being so annoyingly childish and grow up.Mine plus most of the reviews and metacritic, nothing more like you say.
And there it is, folks. Classic fans like you don't care about how Sonic can thrive and prosper, they just want it to stagnate in some tired medium because that's all they give a fuck about. If you want Sonic to once again stand next to his contemporaries like Mario, Crash, Spyro, etc. It WON'T be done in fucking 2D.Done years ago on WiiU. Except Sonic tubers actually praised Mania; they just don't want it to be the future of the franchise. And no, Classic can die. That's an era of Sonic long past; if you still want 2D gameplay, it'll be Modern Sonic. There are tons of 2D sonic fangames on the level of the originals, and even 2D sonic ripoffs like Freedom Planet for you to enjoy. This isn’t true at all. YouTubers don’t speak for the majority of Sonic fans (even though a lot of them think they do). Otherwise, Mania would not have been the success that it was.
I think there’s a place for both overall. If they could deliver a wonderful Modern Sonic game, I would be elated. But it doesn’t have to come at the sacrificing of Classic Sonic. They can exist as separate entities at this point. There’s a reason Sega keeps talking about a new era. Even they knew Forces was garbage.
Ok, but, why not both? SEGA already established that Classic and Modern are separate now, why not use that to their advantage and have a Mania 2 in the works AND a new 3D game? Why go back to DIMPS when their track record has been absolute trash?Except Sonic tubers actually praised Mania; they just don't want it to be the future of the franchise. And no, Classic can die. It does not make the 3D Sonic any good. There is no 3D Sonic game of the year and on the cover off the non video game newspapers for the games.Stop being so annoyingly childish and grow up.
A lot of people like different entries of 3D Sonic for different reasons, and because your opinion "matches" scores doesnt make you the owner of the absolute truth, not even close.
While I don't agree about Dimps being bad (except Sonic 4, fuck that game), I agree that they should move forward having both classic Sonic and modern Sonic. The fanbase is split anyway, so why not using it to your advantage.Ok, but, why not both? Like Sonic Mania, a 3....eeee no.And there it is, folks. Classic fans like you don't care about how Sonic can thrive and prosper, they just want it to stagnate in some tired medium because that's all they give a fuck about. If you want Sonic to once again stand next to his contemporaries like Mario, Crash, Spyro, etc. It WON'T be done in fucking 2D.
And no, why the fuck would I play Mario? I like how you inadvertently assigned Mario as a franchise rooted in 3D even though it too came from simple 2D roots. 3D Sonic games may not be as good as 3D Mario YET, but they could be in the future. And when it achieves that potential, that's when the topic of Sonic can indiscriminately join the dinner table once again. It won't do that in a stagnating medium like 2D.
