New starfox vidoes and impressions

looks much better than it did at e3.

totally looking forward to seeing what the Ace Combat team can do with the franchise. should be a great game.

Holy crap, it really is orchestrated music!...in a Nintendo game? What happened!?
This instantly makes me think of the upcoming Zelda game...is it possible...nah, probably not. :/

Feb? Didn't expect this one so fast, either! Looking good!

(better be worthy of the Starfox name!)

Valentines Day (or there abouts)

Well, Starfox 64 was worthy of a love affair IMO. Maybe this will be too :)

Contrive much? You KNOW this is being made by Namco.

That said, the orchestrated music is lovely, and I wish Nintendo would finally fucking put it into their games.

Yes, I know it's Namco, I know I'm reeally grasping here...but damn if it wouldn't be sweet to have that kind of music in the next GC Zelda. At least it gives me more hope than nothing at all. Maybe Nintendo said "No Namco, you HAVE to use wonderful, orchestrated music in this game! This is the new way of Nintendo."
Yes, that's what I'll believe. :|

I want to believe too! Let us protest together (or bask in assuming glory, anyway) Kiriku! :)

uh just a stupid question, but since the GC discs are only 1.5 gig, is that one reason why GC games usually doesn't have orchestrated music implemented? Is it taking up more disc space? I have no idea.

Appearently Nintendo for some reason doesn't like to use multiple discs. It hasn't happend in any of their GC games unlike capcom and namco which uses it quite often.

"is that one reason why GC games usually doesn't have orchestrated music implemented?"

I doubt it, mp3 like compression would solve that. Its more to do with the dynamics possible with generated music, ie blending in with the gameplay and morphing the sounds together.

Generated music may be easier on the CPU?

Nah, even Playstation and Saturn games had orchestrated tracks. It's all about Nintendo's music philosophy. They've always been waiting for midi tools to catch up to the aural output of orchestrated ones. I think, finally, that they've decided that as a losing battle, though. More orchestration for Revolution I call. Hopefully absolute.

(please excuse any post I make for the next few hours, as I have been drinking heavily :))

Yep, that's a big reason too. I've read it in some interview with Koji Kondo from the n64 days.

Koji Kondo! Let the GC zelda have an amazing soundtrack plz :D

ditch the other 3 music composers who worked on Wind Waker.

It looks really good, but it seems as if you fly in slow-motion…
yeah, all flying games seem to suffer from feeling really slow. i wish they could give that sense of speed you get when watching dogfights in a movie.

Is this game's highest aspiration really just "not mediocre"?

8.2. Whee.

Yeah 8.2 is about what the hype level is right now, but it all depends on the multiplayer. This was suppose to be multiplayer focused according to Nintendo. If its good split-screen then I think it will get better scores from the critics. (Besides the retarded "its not online criticisms.)

Sidenote: For everygame that gets its review score tainted for not being online there should be an equal deduction for games like Mech Assault or Project Gotham 2 that get inflated scores for online gaming. One feature that I and the that vast majority of gamers won't be taking in part in should not heavily influence a games review score.

I can almost guarantee this won't live up to Star Fox 64. As much as I want it too :(

The multiplayer sucked arse in the N64 version. Why is it the focus of this game? It's like focusing on multiplayer in the next Metroid game. Sorry the mechanics don't work well for multiplayer!!

Note: Would love to be proven wrong!

You've played the game in its entirety? Can I have a copy?

Well I'm going off the intial impressions and Nintendo's trend of GameCube sequels not living up to their N64 predecessors (Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Mario Kart etc).

Good thing neither EAD or NST are touching this one. F-Zero turned out pretty great. :)

edit- Just checked out the videos. The forest stage looking amazing... reminds me a bit of Panzer Zwei actually. Even the free roaming ground stuff looks fun... everyone's should've had more faith in Namco, they're consistantly the best developer this generation imo.

Erm....

F-Zero GX wasn't half the game F-Zero X was.

Wind Waker is probably the closest Nintendo have got so far to their N64 predecessors, although Smash Bros Melee is probably better (from HAL) and MK:DD is also not far behind MK64

You're on crack. While I prefer X to GX by a hair, there's a fucking gigantic gulf in quality between TWW and OoT/MM or Mario Kart 64 & Double Dash. Seriously, even Sunshine was a more worthy followup than those two. TWW especially was just a huge letdown, EAD fucked the Zelda flow and formula rather badly there, presentation was really what saved it from being a total abortion. It's probably the worst Zelda game ever (well, it's in the running with Zelda 2-3 anyway). :/

I agree with SSBM though, it's probably the only GC Nintendo game that's undeniably better than it's N64 predecessor.

Wow, looking A LOT better!!

The only thing that worries me is that they show the same 3 stages over and over and over. I hope the game has a lot more varied and more inspired stages to offer. And we NEED the submarine!

If this is the case then I will be even happier. I like to sink my teeth into games without knowing every little aspect of them in advance. I just hope namco keeps on a roll with the amazing titles they have been developing lately. They are one of my 3 top developers this gen, thats for shizzle.

Yeah, probably the first 3 stages, knowing Nintendo. They won't show all before the game's out. Though, they kinda did with MP2E...

Wow pretty much my own opinion. I like both F-Zero X and GX about the same because they both do things better then the other (X has better music and X-Cup whereas GX has Story Mode, building your own craft, and INSANELY beautfiul graphics)

I'll download the videos now and see what they look like. I just fear this will be too much like the old game to have much of an impact. Then again it could be like F-Zero GX and suprise a lot of ppl. Here's hoping :)

I think it was all done by computer, but it was pre-recorded. So there's at least some comparison to the uses/drawbacks of orchestrated music.
I tried to do that with my avatar but it never looked as nice :lol bravo

Speak for yourself, crack smoker. I thought TWW was a huge step forward from OOT (let's not put MM into the equation right now). OOT is one of the most boring, lifeless AAA games I've ever played. It just dumbfounds me to see the amount of praise it got, even back when it was brand new. TWW is a title that deserved all the praise it got. It may not have been revolutionary, but at least it made the Zelda-in-3D formula actually work.

They have to leave something as a surprise ;)

I cannot wait for this game, I have the utmost faith in Namco.

You have little understanding as to what makes a good Zelda game. Clearly.

Not if you really think at it's core, TWW is a better game than OoT. Fucked flow, weaker dungeon design, worthless world design, forced arbitrary item collection, incerementally evolved combat... I enjoyed TWW for what it was. Great looking, great sounding, amazing art, mythology and atomosphere.... but the core game design is easily the weakest among the 3D Zeldas, and among the weakest for the entire franchise. The game really needed an extra year or so in development.

IMO WW>OoT, too. OoT was to me just boring, always from the first N64 play to the bonus disc. I tried to like it, but I never could do it.
