The bill is largely a slush fund for Democratic politicians, mostly giving money to the states that fucked it up and killed tens of thousands of people. They are giving tons of money to education while the teachers unions refuse to go to work and permanently damage the upbringing millions of children. I love kids and families. It's why I decided to have a large family, with eight kids

Why judge me so harshly and say I don't? Because I disagree with the US government going trillions of dollars in debt over Covid relief (much of it not spent on families), I must therefore be completely apathetic about other families? That doesn't logically follow and is a needless, baseless and petty judgement.

You also said it was ironic that I have eight kids while I also believe the government should be fiscally responsible? How so? There is no conflict, for example, in holding the belief, "large families are good" and the belief, "government authorities are obliged to make wise use of the tax dollars of the people and avoid going trillions of dollars into unnecessary debt through frivolous spending." So again, you are demonstrating a tendency to make logical leaps and then issue insults from your flawed reasoning.

nonsense. pointing out the hypocrisy in his argument doesnt mean i am saying fuck you to his family or that he shouldnt raise a large family.

and we know how much he makes. less than $150k since he got the full $1,400 allowance per family member. i WANT him to get the money. I just want him to show a little bit of gratitude and understand that everyone in the $150k or below range needs help whether or not they have disabilities, mental illness or unemployment.

I am bolding all the bits that made me think you didnt care about others. you used some very harsh words yourself. how else am i supposed to interpret your post? if not as something that you find completely repulsive.

you seem to think that only unemployed people and disabled folks should get the money, but now you and I can have a discussion on whether or not its enough just to give those in the need. i dont know if you want to so i will leave it at that.

people need the money. it saved us from a depression last march, and it will help us again. i think its better than that tax money from the tax payers go back to the tax payers than in the pocket of billionares but thats just me. Around $500 billion was for stimulus checks, another $200 billion was for unemployment benefits for the next six months. the rest is for vaccines, schools and things that directly affect families. funding schools help families. its not pork. its much needed aid. feel free to point to which spendings you dont agree with and tell if me they dont directly or indirectly affect families.

Here is everything thats in the bill.

Major buckets

Unemployment benefits:
  • The package extends the existing $300 weekly unemployment benefit through Sept. 6, as well as provides a tax break on $10,000 in unemployment benefits.
Child tax credit:
  • Under the legislation, most Americans would receive $3,000 a year for each child ages 6 to 17, and $3,600 for each child under 6.
Aid to state and local governments:
  • The package designates $350 billion for states, cities, tribal governments and U.S. territories.
  • Facing deep budget shortfalls, state and local governments have shed 1.3 million jobs since the pandemic began last year — a loss of more than 1 in 20 government jobs, according to a Washington Post analysis of government data. While tax revenue grew in some states last year, the majority — at least 26 states — were hit with declines.
Pandemic response
  • Tens of billions of dollars will fund coronavirus testing and contact tracing; increasing the size of the public health workforce and funding vaccine distribution and supply chains.
Housing assistance
  • The bill sets aside more than $20 billion in emergency rental assistance and other relief for the homeless.
  • Another $10 billion goes to mortgage and homeownership assistance.
School support
  • The bill sets aside almost $130 billion to help K-12 schools reopen. That money would go to improving ventilation systems, reducing class sizes, buying personal protective equipment and implementing social distancing.
  • Colleges and other higher-education institutions would receive almost $40 billion. That money could help support financial aid grants to prevent hunger, homelessness or other challenges for students during the pandemic.
  • Additional funds would go to child-care providers through the Child Care and Development Block Grant program. The bill also sets aside $1 billion for the Head Start program, which provides early-childhood education, health and nutrition services to low-income children and families.
Aid for multi-employer pension plans
  • The bill includes an $86 billion bailout for failing pensions.

New provisions

  • The bill provides $510 million for the FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program. That money would support homeless services providers for overnight shelter, meals, one month's rent and mortgage assistance, and one month's utility payments.
  • It expands the Employee Retention Tax Credit for start-up companies and other businesses hit by the pandemic.
  • The bill also increases the value of the federal COBRA health insurance program from 85 percent to 100 percent.
  • The bill adds a $10 billion infrastructure program to help local governments continue crucial capital projects.
  • The bill makes all coronavirus-related student loan relief tax-free.
  • The bill increases the total amount of Amtrak relief funding by $200 million.
  • For education funding, the bill sets aside $1.25 billion for summer enrichment; $1.25 billion for after-school programs and $3 billion for education technology.
  • The Senate bill also adds $8.5 billion in funds for the Provider Relief Program to assist rural health care providers.

Pretty much everything here is helping families. I can understand single people being upset over this kind of spending, but families are getting help with health cares, mortgages, rent payments, expanded health care benefits, better schools, free summer school programs, interest free student loans, etc.

The 600 was delivered by Trump, not by Biden. Biden didn't campaign on 1400 checks adding up to 600. They explicitly said $2000 checks.

They lied, and here you are pushing that lie. It's pathetic.
The article you linked is also bullshit as well. The previous administration were always upfront that the higher risk would get the vaccines first, and states would administer. That is literally what Biden is doing.

I'm hoping i get mine next week. I'm behind on bills... I'm broke after getting paid YESTERDAY... I BARELY was able to buy batteries for my Cochlear Implant Sound Processor. The rechargeable battery died on me shortly after I got it.

Grateful for getting back a fraction of the money he has paid in taxes after government screwed over the country. And people call insurance a scam. :pie_eyeroll: At least the insurance companies don't burn down your house and give you pennies on the dollar for it.

Are people still pretending that Trump's tax cuts didn't target the middle class, in particular the working class?

I find that hard to believe unless you are a liminal case with very high SALT, mortgage interest, or large numbers of dependents. Looking at the tax savings:

I don't see it. A lot of people:
  • did not adjust/monitor their withholdings and ended up with the same net pay during the year but with a larger refund, or
  • underwithheld and ended up with a lower refund or owing taxes, but still had a net tax savings during the year
so they thought they didn't save money, but they did. I've said before that the new withholding table was not done very well, but outside of cases where people had absurd amounts of deductions people around $50k got the largest savings.

I don't have much money to my name ... I only owe just under 800 because I filed exempt on my taxes and forgot to uncheck that part.
 
I've not seen any of this money yet. I can use it, though. There is a lot of dental work I have needed to have done for years, I have been getting it taken care of but insurance only covers so much. Already this year I am 3K in the hole for a root canal and a bridge and crown. That is not covering my medical expenses.

So I guess this money is basically going to some upper/middle-upper class professionals as well as health/dental insurance industry executives. Oh boy.

The sad fact is, this is probably true for a lot of people. Obamacare has not really done a lot for health care in America and people are still faced with extravagant bills even when they have insurance. And if they lose insurance, they are penalized by the ACA with additional fines to be payed at tax time. I bet a lot of these checks will go towards paying medical debt.

Unless you live in a shitty, backwards-thinking country, birth control is legal and easily available for a reason.

There's also the adult responsibility of self restraint.

Having 8 children and making less than 150k to receive the stimulus must mean he lives in a rural area. It's also based on choice to have larger family, as most large city dense populations prefer smaller families.

Its worth pointing out, it's strange to talk about government spending during a pandemic when no one bats an eye at the mere military spending INCREASE, not the the total budget, but trump's last INCREASE alone could have paid for major problems in this country.

Also there's the environmental cost to consider of having 8 children. That's alot of waste and consumption.
I really do question the choice to have 8 kids. Maybe 100 years ago when half of them would die off in child hood, it made sense. Now a days, not so much.

But to each his own.

same. just had a bridge redone because they broke it during cleaning. these things cost an insane amount of money and are supposed to last 10-20 years and mine only lasted 5. $1,700 gone just like that. i only went there for a cleaning.

now they want to do a new crown and a new bridge on other teeth even though i just want them to do some fillings. which btw cost $500 despite my insurance covering most of it. 30 minutes of work and they charge $2000 to the insurance. so their hour is basically worth $4,000. its nonsense. even lawyers dont charge that much.

i got a lot of money last year thanks to having two kids and pretty much all of it went into hospital bills and house maintenance. Dentists and other medical professionals arent the only ones ripping off the working class. The fucking plumbers and electricians basically all trade workers are charging exuberant amounts for basic maintenance. I was charged $1,700 for like 4 hours of work from one company putting in some radon mitigation system. And they were the cheapest. This other company charged $2,000 to dig up and replace one pipe from my sump pump. Both said that the job was a full day 8 hour long job and quoted me for that. They were done in 4-5 hours.

My favorite is when hospitals and clinics tell you that you insurance covers certain procedures, then makes you pay copay for months and then five months later sends you thousands of dollars worth of bills because insurance denied the claims. im like you talked to my insurance and got pre-authorization before we did this so what the fuck. everyone is scamming everyone in America.
 
coming the 17th for me, no idea how much, i make more than the individual allowance but I think for tax year 2019 we came right under the 150 or 160. probably wouldn't have qualified if we got our 2020 return in earlier.
 
I got to tell you though, only in America you get $14K AND complain about it and then your neighbor is trying to make ends meet with $1400. Go donate that money to charity, pay a neighbors rent/mortgage for a month; don't save it especially if you don't need it! You know, go STIMULATE the economy, buy some groceries and drop off at banks. Do something and stop complaining please!
