New Super Bomberman R footage - appears 60 fps?

When i first saw the switch and its games i quickly scanned the room, looked what people are playing and the very first thing i noticed was "why is bomberman in 30fps?".

Lost all my interest in that title.

How much interest could you possibly have had if the fact it runs in 30 fps made you lose all interest? The game possibly being fun has no bearing on your opinion or interest?

Looks like 30fps.

Which misses the point: Is anyone actually excited to pick this up for the Switch? I mean, it's another Bomberman. Ok, cool I guess. Seems like the same game we've played many times before. Try as I might I can't get fired up for this as a launch game. I guess I might give it a chance as a "couch" co-op on the go...

Actually it can make or break certain games. I'm no graphics whore by any stretch, but 60fps is important in a handful of types of games. Fighters, First person shooters, and arcade type twitch reflex games. BomberMan isn't BomberMan if it isn't buttery smooth.

The fact that the load times are HORRENDOUS (hopefully it's fixed like someone said earlier) and that the game is 30 fps with drops is very detrimental to the enjoyment of the game. If you're OK with it, I'll not begrudge you one bit. But to me, that makes me take a hard pass on this and I grew up on BomberMan when I was a kid. I love the game but this screams quick launch cash in.

i mean i'm no bomberman fan or anything but it was on my preorder list and after seeing how it runs i cancelled it. 60fps is very important to me in aracdey games, they're all about colorful fast and fluid action. if you can't deliver that then i have no interest. i will get Puyo Puyo Tetris instead.

i don't care about graphic prowess but i value performance very higly, there's only a handful games that get a pass on that front because they're just that good.

yup, smoothness is eye candy.

Yes many people are excited, and rightfully so. It looks great. It's been a while since a new Bomberman was released. It fits the console and its multiplayer focus perfectly.

To those complaining about other people complaining about frame rates, wobbly camera, possibly dodgy controls etc, I can play Saturn Bomberman and Bomberman 94 on their original hardware whenever I want to. I'm not going to buy a potentially mediocre Bomberman game for the sake of it.

It could be the TV. While not the same model they are using at these events, my Samsung TV has absolutely horrible input lag unless you put it into game mode to turn all the shit off you don't need.

Hmmm maybe.

My biggest worry. I can live with a low framerate but if you can't nip around corners tightly then it'll be horrible in multiplayer

Yeah it's going to result in so many unintended deaths if this really is a problem.

Off topic but why was Bomberman Ultra on PS3 delisted in Europe?

I'm a Bomberman fan myself, and although I am still interested in this title, I really do agree about the frame rate. The second I heard it was 30 FPS a lot of my motivation dwindled, especially because it's 50$ which in itself is already pushing it for this kind of game. I'd have much preferred it being 30$ and 60 FPS since I do at least see they added a single player mode.

Android Assualt Cactus is a Unity game doing a fuck ton more at 60 fps. The engine isn't the reason.
The same engine on different platforms can behave and perform differently. So comparing what Unity can do on another platform doesn't mean much especially if the engine is new on a platform. You should have seen how different Unreal 4 was on the PS4 during the first year compared to now.

For this type of game I totally get it.

Like, say, if I had to play Overwatch or Tekken 7 at 30 fps it would kill it for me too.

Heck yea boy. I missed the boat on the quadrilogy of online Bomberman games last gen and I haven't played a new installment with a decent campaign since the PSP version 11 years ago, I need that Bomber action.

I still laugh when people playing on console complain about fps and resolution. Anyone else think the 30 FPS limitation is due to the amount of players able to play on 1 screen?

8 player matches isnt a new thing for the series and it ran just fine on older hardware.

This attitude that console players dont deserve a better experience just because they arent on PC is baffling.

I think it has more to do with being a Unity game on console, and therefore heavily CPU constrained.

Which do you prefer as a multiplayer game? If I don't get bomberman for switch (will check reviews etc), then I need to scratch this bomberman itch so will get one of these and emulate it. unless one is hundreds of dollars I'd go with the most fun to play. Was BM'94 the one with the kangaroos you could ride?

Edit: although to get four controllers on PC would probably cost more than just buying a pair of joycons..

Yeah BM94 has kangaroos and Saturn Bomberman has dinosaurs. I would give the nod to Saturn Bomberman but BM94 is a very close second!

If you're emulating it you could just use whatever controllers you have lying around, many will work on PC without much fuss (PS3, XB1, PS4, Wii U...).

I'm sure it's fine at 30 or 60 fps, it's bomberman.

But dang, surely it can't be that hard to get Bomberman of all things running at 60fps in the first place, right? You'd hope not, otherwise that would be a really bad omen for more graphically complex games!

Surely you understand 8-player online multiplayer is a pretty massive advantage over those two games?

Yes. I am. My buddy is. We love Bomberman and Bomberman blast servers are no more. This actually looks great and more interesting due to the co op campaign. I am very hyped to play new Bomberman
