Rarely leaves the top 40 yet it was released 6th February 2004!

Shame it couldn't have been one of Sega's better PS2 attempts, but eh, you can't win them all...

You know, I'm starting to think that Sonic Rush might become a UK killer app. I normally don't think of Sonic games in that context, but I'm getting a strange feeling now.

Dogs arent even top 40... it is odd that they seperate the Nintendogs SKUs when they combine multiplatform releases of games that are essentially different across the board like Sims 2. Nintendogs 3 versions are essentially the same, apart from what you start with. Chart Track have always done this though in similar contexts -- like the Pokemon games for example. Which seems quite strong still...

Good show for Battlefront II, Liberty City Stories and so on.

Things that do make me dispair?

How close Path of Neo is to Resident Evil 4, and the rest of the chart in general.
"Singstar 80s get!" as soon as I find some money though :)

I think the most interesting observation this week in the chart (or not) was the total bomb that was Mario Baseball (see: No.11 Gamecube chart).

Ouch! Most have been about 10 copies sold!

It seems that handheld games in general outside of Nintendogs (bundles evidentally), GTA, Battlefront, and Fifa don't seem to be doing so hot. We'd need something more complete than a top 40 chart to know for sure.

It's why desptie the hate it gets, Shadow is a very good move by Sega because its going to sell and they're getting away with using an old engine for it.

Well, that's what happens when you split it among 4 SKUs.

I was mainly thinking about how sad the sales for the other 19 games in the DS's top 20 were.

Also, why do you hate Castlevania, UK? :(

Go RE4!

Edit:

Do baseball games ever perform well in the UK? Maybe they should've changed it around to Mario Superstar Cricket or something? :P

While RE4 dropped a place on the chart, it actually improved in sales. Up 12% w00t!

Smackdown vs Raw 2006 becomes the fastest selling PS2 wrestling game.

Sinstar 80's up 44% on last week and Buzz! is up 48%

And yes, we hate baseball over here. :D

It's pretty incredible LCS outsold combined Xb + PS2 Pro Evo figures. Especially considering the installed PSP userbase. (or the lack of thereof)

The no.1 game should come with a disclaimer to get BF2. Hell the BF2 Star Wars mods looks better. :lol

Anyone caught buying Buzz! deserves to be shot.

It's not THAT bad. Some of the cover versions are a bit off but it's a fairly entertaining party game. It's looking like being this Xmas's EyeToy (in terms of sales/popularity in Europe) or something...

The reason there is no Castlevania is because hardly any or perhaps even none of the shops have it anymore.

Poor chihuhua :(
they could have put virtually any other dog from that pack in the title role and it would sell better in relation to the others.

chihuahua's are the rats of the dog kingdom.

So, in the past 4 weeks...

DS:
24,492
23,035

40,000

GBA
8,799
10,034
25,000,

The best selling DS game not even in the top 40. Interesting...
I think it's been determined that the DS / Nintendogs bundle does not contribute towards the software charts. It's still pretty sad that that's basically the only thing keeping DS hardware numbers up right now. They need to start pushing the software a bit more.

I guess you missed the part where the DS has been handing the PSP its ass for 6 straight weeks in the EU.

Yeah I must have missed all those games in the top 40. Even the PSP has games in Japan's top 40. :lol

I guess I'm the only one left who finds it completely unrealistic that over 100,000 people are scooping up DS's per month in the UK, yet an incredibly, ridiculously small amount of those folks are buying any other games at all. Fuck, even the non-est of the non-gamers would likely pick at least one other title over the next couple of weeks after purchase.

But I don't know, maybe I'm just letting common sense get in the way.

Maybe the small amount of shelf space that DS has is a factor? Even then, the DS should have at least one game in the top 40, very strange.

Look plain and simple I don't believe those numbers we are getting from that UK Nintendo guy. What is the PSP's ratio 15:1? And what's the DS's ratio 1:2?

Yes that's 1 game for every 2 DS's sold. I don't get it. Maybe we should start a thread with this question to get down to the bottom of it.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here but they've been confirmed to be real for quite a long time.

So if you don't believe those numbers you don't believe Izzy either? Cause he's substantiated Gaybrush's numbers several times already.

Okay maybe it is real, but what's going on with the DS and their software sales? Why does the PSP have so many games that sold better than the DS? Maybe the PSP does have games.

You havent notice the same thing happening with PSP in the States lately? Its software sales arent boosting hardware #s

Hold on isn't that the other way around from what's going on in Europe with the DS? The DS is selling big in EU but not selling ANY games. In America people are buying lots of games, its just that different or more people are buying the hardware.

both Gaybrush and Izzy are reliable. I don't think they made up things at all.

Your perception of the charts is inaccurate. GTA:LCS is the only psp exclusive game in the top 40. If you notice Battlefront II is part of the multiplatform SKU and that would be up there because of the ps2 version, same goes for Fifa. Burnout Legends is not in the top 40 at all. As for the DS, chances are Nintendogs would be in the top 40, perhaps even the top 10 but it is split between 3 skus and also included in hardware bundles which aren't counted at all for the software charts. So from what we can see in this chart, things are fairly even for the 2 handhelds, they both are struggling to get software in the chart.

By the way, is GUNs debut at 14 enough to confirm a bomba?

That's dynamite, by which reporting firm that is linkable (ala Media Create)? Call me what you'd like, I still don't believe these numbers for even half a second. Just like my NPD numbers, without an official, linkable source, this is all pure conjecture. Problem is, these numbers don't fit at all.

The total UK population right now is just over 60 million strong, which is less than half of Japan's and just over 1/6 of the US. Are you telling me that the DS, selling at a per-capita penetration rate of over 200% and 600% more than Japan and the US respectively doesn't seem, oh I don't know, completely fucking absurd. Hell, even the PS2 is supposedly selling at around a 300% greater penetration rate than the US, which is equally (if not more) absurd.

Call me a PSP, Sony or whatever fanboy, but no matter which name was in front of each of these numbers, I still wouldn't believe them for a second. It's simple logic.

Welcome to my ignore list! Join the likes of typhonsentra and olimario in the wonderful land of magical delusions.

There's a difference between cautious skepticism and outright denial. We have more than enough evidence that these numbers are real (heck, I was a tad skeptical myself of Gaybrush until Izzy confirmed his info), so I really don't see what thinking like this accomplishes. If for some strange reason those numbers end up being fabricated, no one is going to say 'oh, Heian-kyo sure saw that coming!' Give it a rest already and STFU.

Evidentally, they are not.

I'd say so, especially considering it's available on all platforms. It's a bit odd that it made no. 3 on the Xbox chart, but only managed 14 for PS2 (even LA Rush managed to debut higher).

Activision must be a bit worried at how their key titles are doing. Apart from GUN, CoD2 has already fallen to no. 18, and The Movies debuting at 28 must also be disappointing. Quake 4 isn't even in the top 40 anymore.

Speaking on common sense, DS plays GBA software. Again using common sense, it's likely a similar situation as when PS2 launched in Japan and The Matrix/DQ7 flew off shelves with the system rather than it's own games.

Nintendogs sold bundled with the system is apparently NOT counted in the software sales. Give these people some time to play the first game they got before buying new ones.
