New updates for DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT and DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH add compatibility for Power Saver mode

Chad original Death Stranding release: drink this fucking MONSTER ENERGY™ bitch

Virgin Death Stranding Director's Cut release: no that's too much energy, pls use the power saver mode

So do we know how much effort to get this power save mode working for Devs?

Will be important if this is indeed a mode for the handheld, as it should be ideally be simple for Devs to get it working so it is supported well.

Sony: Any tidbits

According to MLiD (the very first person to talk about this mode), this is what developers are working with:
  • Limits CPU usage to 8 threads
  • Cuts 3D audio processing power to 75%
  • Clocks down GDDR6 memory to half speed
  • Reduces core (CPU/GPU) clocks by about 10–20%
  • Sets GPU to the minimum frequency needed for compatibility
  • Limits the console to 36 Compute Units

It's not any tidbit, my man. DS2, a current gen exclusive, is basically handheld-fit with this.

The vast majority of games have a Series S port, and since the PS6 Portable will be about that powerful it shouldn't be too much of an issue to just use that profile.

This is possibly a test for PSP3 for downscaling tech to portable version. This is good especially for developers to cut expenses on games development, no need for separate development for portable version. And, also, not to compromise the graphics and features of the main console version of a game. This also mean , that PSP3 will be affordable.

I mean, you have some points. What I value most is the battery life tho, if it's gonna run the latest and greatest graphics, it better be able to sustain a reasonable three-hour session. Battery is really what puts me off for all the current windows 11 handhelds on the market.

If Sony plans to go full switch 2 with ps6 I'm so fucking in.

Now THAT I'd pay $1000 for.
Not Switch 2. They will simply have 2 entry points: either a portable or a home console. Not a hybrid. Imagine what a PS6 hybrid would cost. 1100 / 1200 bucks? Sony wouldn't be that crazy.
They will always want people to buy the next hardware. The are simply giving people more choice.

You will probably be able to buy a dock for PS6 Portable, so just get that and a controller.

Why yall saying PS6 Portable? Isn't it basically a PS5 in your hands?
It isn't, you can't feasibly fit PS5 hardware on a mass-market handheld device. There's a reason we're celebrating that these games are getting patched.
We aren't calling it PS6 Portable because it's a PS6 in a handheld form factor, we're calling it as such because it's a PS6 generation device sharing the same architecture and getting specific support for it (presumably on games that could run on it).

My wife has been watching me play a fuckton of DS2, and I successfully convinced her to try the original.

She's enjoying it, but every time I see the "Bridges Energy" drinks in the private shelter, I'm seized with a powerful urge to defend the game, as if the absence of Monster Energy is show-stopping flaw that needs carefully developed talking points to recover from.

and it is.

PS5 Portable.
Nah.

Its PS5 Power saver mode that you have to support, not PS6 power saver mode.
No, PS5 games in Power Saver mode aren't directly meant for the handheld, they will just work on the handheld due to such mode being of way lower specs than standard PS5 profiles.
PS6 Portable will just work like Xbox Series S getting native support (we just don't know if support will be mandated).

How do you know any of that?

This is great to hear, since we're still at least 2 years away from release. There will be plenty of impressive games at launch, including so many first party ones.

I am going to happily buy both the home console and the portable one. All Sony needs to do is to not fuck up on pricing ($500 max for the portable) and proprietary bullshit (let us expand storage with an SSD like we do it on PS5) and give it a decent OLED screen with VRR/120hz.

Then Nintendo should do the same.

Because it won't have the power draw to play PS6 games.
It doesn't have the power draw to play PS5 games (as they usually are), either. Your point?
Again, it's a Series S type console. Would you say that the S isn't a Series console just because it can't play Series X games?

I don't really give a shit about the whole handheld craze at the moment everyone is going through.

I barely play switch 1 and couldn't see a reason to buy switch 2 as is...

That being said...

These are perfect hybrid/portable games... Story beats on the big screen, tryna get 5 stars portable.

It has the power draw to play PS5 games at power saver mode.
