New Wardevil trailer

OMG if Sony scopes this game up it going to be hard for MS to justify not waiting. I hope for MS's sake that the comparison from Quake4 to WarDevil is not true.

I personally think this game looks better than Gears of War. And I swear I really do think this.

What, what did I say? Oh my bad I shouldn't have said a game looks better than the God of the X360. Put it this way its at least on par with Gears of War, if not better.

hm...it's curious the way x360 games can range from "horribly looking current gen stuff" to "i won't believe this is realtime until i see it running".

Wardevil, for example...well, i don't believe this is realtime.

I dont think it's real time either. Digi-guys site states these videos are using "in-game assets" but doesn't go a step further telling us it's also real time generated stuff.

I thought their engine was called RTE1080 a.k.a. REAL TIME ENGINE 1080!!!

It is indeed. So? This doesnt necessarely mean those trailers are generated in real time. It may just be a Killzone-like projection. Killzone demo video also supposedly uses in-game assets.

I'm not questioning the engine potential. I'm just saying that the website doesn't state it's in-game footage (like Factor 5 did for its "Lair" video for example).

Very interesting, you can see what happens when the blur goes away. Heavenly Sword is going have similar results.

Judging by this new Wardevil trailer, there's still blurring going on to some degree, hopefully in-engine.

HS will have in-engine DOF and motion blur too (they added motion blur artificially for the E3 trailer - the in-engine blur may not be as high quality as that, but hopefully it'll be good).

I wouldn't be certain this is definitely a PS3 game, or exclusively so at least.

Any hint as to what this trailer was running off?

Ok, ok. I quit.

Damn, I can't believe I missed this. And people still ask "but but can't this next gen's games look like last gen's 4-5th generation s/w?", NO, that's wrong. Did ps2/xbox/gcn/dc games look like psx/n64 games? NO, only in ports from last gen and in the worst of cases(some rushed or bad devs.) did that was the case.

This is truly truly next-gen, no confusing this with last gen, or saying a it's like current gen with a bit more poly here and there, some high-rez textures, and in HD. I still wonder if this CGI-like lighting has something to do with the high-precision HDR(if these are pics of the ps3 version..) that was touted at e3 so much.

In game assets on a game that isn't in the dev process yet?

It looks a lot like Gears of War to me, so Imk not going to expect much from it. Either this or Gears of War will flop.

I love seeing games like this on the horizon. It proves to some people that next-gen games will actually look difference from this gen. Take that people who say "don't expect a huge difference with next graphics."

And what did those other devs (i.e. Tomb Raider dev or Half-Life dev) say about next-gen graphics.

Okay simple test to find out if a movie preview is "actual game play footage" or a "CG rendered cinematic". Ask yourself these questions:

1. "Is there a HUD/Interface being shown in the movie footage?"
2. "Does it look like someone (ie the player) is playing the game?"
3. "Does the camera perspective change for cinematic affect on the fly, and if so, does it look like someone is controlling the main character and the action during these transitions?"

If the answer is NO to more then one of these questions, it's not game footage, it's cinematic footage. You don't play cinematic footage for a FPS or Action based game because the player controls what's going on. When they don't control the character, it's no longer game play but a cinematic.

Between "actual game play footage" and "CG rendered cinematic" there is also something called "real time rendering". Which is what most are arguing about in this thread.

Edit: But thanks for the tips anyway. :)

Most of the time, you only see gameplay views and HUDs when the game is approaching release and *not* when teasers are shown..

I would bet more often than not, the first, 2nd and 3rd time a 3D game is shown, there is no HUD in sight and cinematics are usually all that is shown...this is a noticable trend with all platforms and with just about all developers of 3D games...

On thing about realtime cinematics, though, is the fact it *does* gives you an idea of how the in-game graphics will be, as opposed to offline rendered CGI, which usually doesn't represent in game graphics at all..

War Devil will probably have similar graphics to this in game...and 3D games in all genres will continue to show only replay/cinematic angles ad infinitum...

Of course, this is all obvious stuff :)
