Drakengard had such cool atmosphere. I wonder if the sequel is also being developed by cavia? I know they did Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex for PS2. Is Drakengard 2 (Drag-On Dragoon 2?) what the team started working on after GitS? With only 80 employees, they probably don't have too many projects going on at once.

I thought the music for Drakengard was unique. Who was the composer?

Awesome, I really enjoyed the original. It had its share of flaws, but there were a LOT of positive aspects in there that made for an enjoyable and unique experience.

The atmosphere was incredible, the music rocks, I enjoyed the story (yes, seriously), and the action felt solid (albeit repetitive at times). I think they should wait until next gen consoles, though, as I'd like to see the entire battlefield alive this time around (rather than simply fading in troops as you approach them).

Cavia has far more than 80 employees. It's in excess of 250 with at least 10 projects in various stages of development.

The first game had so much potential, it just got boring and repetitive because the levels were so flat and all interaction consisted using the same few combos to smack hordes of enemies around. The atmosphere was awesome and the story was quite good, even if it got somewhat disquieting (not only the incest , but the level where you killed all the child conscripts and the child murdering elf girl were freaky).

The technical writer in me noticed that the game had some of the slickest menus ever and a wonderful interface. The actual gameplay was occasionaly good, but the dragon was often too weak in the outdoor levels and the aerial levels were very dull compared to Panzer Dragoon. I hated fighting the same few enemies over and over and I got sick of the bands of red enemies who were immune to magic and threw evil slime at the dragon. The alternate characters were cool, but I would have preferred them as selectable characters instead of summons.

The game needs the dragon system overhauled with multiple selectable characters and creatures to ride. The levels must be made more interactive. The enemies should move like soldiers in battle, isntead of just standing around in little clusters that only attack when you are in the middle of them. The magic system needs to be reworked so that it is not tied so directly to the weapon and the RPG elements need to extend beyond just HP and weapons.

Dang! Way bigger than I thought! Their website says 80 employees as of May 1 2004! This means they added 170 employees in 7 months! Damn!

IAWTP. Was about to write mostly the same thing.

personally i welcome this news. i think the japanese staff is probably aware of the flaws in the original, but it was a winning formula. if the execution can be improved for the sequel, we're defintiely onto something, and i will never, ever have to touch the satin-garbed nonsense of dynasty warriors ever again.
