While Sony is boasting of maximum resolutions of 1080p on PS3, Microsoft has taken a significantly better route by specifying a minimum of 720p support for every game.
On the GPU side of the house, ATI is providing what most people are referring to as the R500. Unlike the PS3's RSX, which is much more similar to a PC GPU in design, the R500 has an embedded 10MB of EDRAM. That RAM is for use as a Z-buffer, back buffer, stencil buffer, or possibly some other frame-buffer services.
As proud as Nvidia was about its 300 million transistor count on the RSX, ATI's Xbox 360 GPU weighs in at a beefy 330M transistors.

They say in the Xbox 360 Tech article though that the 20MB hard drive does not come with the console as standard. I thought it did?
Doube D said:Really? I had no idea we knew all about the RSX already! wheres the info??
Actually, the RSX is over (from what I understand 300 mill) and ~80 mill of the xenos is ram. So umm, ye.

Huge amount of bs.
Chiggs said:Nevermind the fact that the Xenos uses unified ALU's, which basically means that transistor count isn't everything. So if you're trying to downplay the Xenos by using a "PS3 HAS 300 MILLION TRANSISTORS DEVOTED TO LOGIC!" argument... it's not even close to being accurate.
And pretty much everyone who has been following the PS3 should now by now that the RSX is going to be very similar to the G70 part from Nvidia.
The article does has some pretty stupid factual errors, though.
Doube D said:Never mind the fact that both sony and nvidia (you know, the official guys in charge of making the damn thing) have come out and said on multiple occasions that the RSX is intimately associated with the Cell....
Oh and I wasnt trying to downplay the transistor count of the xenos, but to imply that it has more logic than the rsx is pure bull.
Chiggs said:Well, what do you expect them to say - that their original plans for the RSX weren't fully realized, so they had to shove in a pc part with a few alterations (which is what a lot of people "in the know" are saying)?
Doube D said:Really? Do tell. Who are these people in the know that have been saying these things (other than team xbox members and ATi engineers)?? LOL No seriously, name names and give me some credentials. Beyond 3d nobodies don't count. I want real names, real credentials, and real quotes. Then you would have a point.
Chiggs said:Oh, and who are these people that are saying that the Nvidia part is intimately linked to the Cell and not just some pc part shoved in the system? Oh wait, Sony and Nvidia employees who wouldn't dare say anything other than the typical bullshit you'd expect from someone working on the project to say ( for example: OMG INTRICATE! OMG AMAZING DESIGN! OMG WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR YEARS!) You think I don't have a valid point? Well... right back at you, pal.
So, sorry that I can't provide with quotes from The International Unbiased Board of GPU/VPU Review, but it's not like you can do any better, really. Stalemate it is, then.
Truelize said:Is the print magazine coming back too? I miss that mag quite a bit.
Doube D said:you are kidding me right? First off, following your logic, we should be pissing all over the xenos cause all the info on it has come from ATi. Official unbiased sources, in case you didn't know, include reputable technology web sites that do detailed reviews of hardware (with PUBLISHED BENCHMARKS TO BACKUP THEIR CLAIMS), without having to sign a half dozen NDAs and have their work proof read by the very companies whose products they critique. These include Toms Hardware, Anandtech.... Since these sites are as of yet unable to analyze the rsx/xenos, we have to rely on the manufacture for the details. Thus ATi/ms is suitable for providing xenos info and nvidia/sony the RSX. This however does not mean you take ATi's word on what nvidia has to offer and vice versa (FOR OBVIOUS REASONS).
Fatalah said:Wow, I really like this website. For one, i'm actually able to read it! Simple layout...kinda reminds me of....oh yeah, GA's frontpage!

Take note IGN.
Next-Gen couldn't have come at a better time.
Doube D said:How is that a "significantly better route"?? The 2 issues are not even related. One is the max res possible on the system, the other is the minimum required by the competition. Retard
Really? I had no idea we knew all about the RSX already! wheres the info??

Europe Always Last
Many in Europe are annoyed that Sonys launches come months after those in Japan and the U.S. PSP, for example, is not set to arrive until September.
Europeans wont be betting for much better for PS3. Reeves said coming into Europe late allowed the company to fix any hardware bugs and stabilize the software line-up.
