Insider Gaming has learned that the next mainline Ghost Recon game, codenamed 'Ovr', will be going to its internal alpha later this year.

According to several sources, the game will enter internal alpha in Fall 2025 as Ubisoft sets new internal milestones for its major projects following the announcement that it will delay its major IPs.

Ghost Recon, codenamed Ovr, is expected to launch sometime in 2026, with sources indicating that the internal alpha to final release could take around 12 months. So, in theory, the next Ghost Recon game could launch sometime in Fall 2026.

For content, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, codenamed 'Rewind', entered its internal Alpha in June 2025, and is forecasted to release before March 31st, 2026.

In a report from March 2024, Insider Gaming exclusively reported that the next mainline Ghost Recon game would take a more military simulation (mil-sim) approach, with a first-person perspective and a focus on a fictional 'Naiman war'.

Footage sent to Insider Gaming, under the condition that it will not be made public, shows a game somewhat similar to the Modern Warfare series or something akin to the tactical shooter Ready or Not.

As for when Ubisoft will officially unveil the game, it is unclear, but sources within Ubisoft believe that the company is likely to keep it under wraps for the next 12 months, returning next year with a massive Ubisoft Forward event.

Hopefully when they say 'milsim' they actually mean it. Wildlands was fucking booooooooring. Breakpoint looked like more of the same.

As usual I hope Ubisoft manages to find a good middle ground between the older 'mission-select' games and the newer 'icons all over the map' games.

The only upcoming internal Ubisoft game rumor that has sounded very exciting to me was the next Far Cry game with a 72 hour time limit.

Ovr is not a good codename. Something being "over" has a negative connotation. Concord was named after a plane that crashed and burned. What is the Ghost Recon franchise ovr? One thing's for sure, the 3rd-person camera view is ovr.

They already have a fucking tactical TPS in Siege. Should have stuck to 3rd person.

TPS......Third Person Shooter.
Did Rainbow Six Siege add a third person mode?

P.S I agree I think Ghost Recon should be third person with ADS.
Even in GRAW I used the third person perspective more often than not.

Wildlands was really fun. Didn't like Breakpoint all that much. Even after all the patches, the setting just doesn't bring that vibe. Not to mention those lame ass "boss" fights against tanks.

Urgh, why is everyone going first person again? I appreciate it's the perspective of the original games but I feel like they were on to something with Wildlands, but they just never realised the potential, then they completely knobbed up Breakpoint..

Now they just flip flop between different concepts (likely trying to follow trends), rather than reflect on their own failings when it comes to execution, it's always considered a market problem with the game type and they shift to a new style again, they'll probably bugger this up too because they never address fundamental problems.

There's also microtransactions looming in the background. Doesn't really matter how its structured, it just takes the fun out of these games no matter how they spin it.

Regardless of the quality of the game at launch, I played Breakpoint with a group of friends during lockdown and it was a blast, I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to the new one.

MW 2019's singleplayer was pretty fucking good and I'm not ashamed to say it. Something along those lines for Ghost Recon like the Clean House mission or the mission where you have to defend the roof of an embassy but with a little more emphasis on tactical gameplay would be pretty okay to me.
I've got no faith on Ubisoft though so we'll see.

They are going to F this up. Ubisoft will not rest until they figure out the perfect formula to milk players for every dime. The perfect recipe would be to make a deep fun tatical shooter like Wildlands but they lost their way long ago.

Hopefully it's fun like Wild lands was and not lame like Breakpoint was.
Both were ass for single player, but Breakpoint at least had better stealth and was fun in coop. Wildlands had god tier PvP though. Bring that back. Closest thing we've had to SOCOM since SOCOM.

Also these were like the only games ever inspired by MGSV. IDK how this isn't a more common military shooter style.

Hell yeah I bought Breakpoint on the Steam Summer Sale and was just playing it. Its in such a better place now versus launch.

I loved Wildlands, then Breakpoint was a big letdown.

It was like Instead of taking everything that worked and making it better they made massive sideways gameplay mechanic changes that completely changed the game for the worse imo.

But now in Breakpoint they've got "immersive mode" that basically rolls back a bunch of those changes and makes it more like Wildlands plus some good QOL stuff.

Cliff notes, hopefully they keep those changes in mind and this one is a banger. Despite so many Ubiturds rolling out, Im holding out a sliver of hope.

Oh yeah and the Wildlands PVP was fucking awesome. Some of my favorite PVP memories. Pray to god they make the PVP more like Wildlands and have it available at launch, not 6 months later like Wildlands when most of the audience is already gone.

This is ass. I liked Ghost Recon because it was third person. I don't need yet another military FPS. And haters gonna hate, but Breakpoint was actually good.

If it does in fact go back to it's original roots (tactical fps), there's nothing wrong with the FPS perspective. I remember back in the day the major disappointment from the GR community when Ghost Recon 2 skipped PC and moved to 3rd person.

I didn't mind it so much, they essentially created the over-the-shoulder TPS perspective over a traditional TPS view. Carrying that over into the GRAW series. There was a focus on realistic animations and equipment. However, over the years though, the series (negatively) moved from a tactical realistic shooter to a dude bro dumbed down shooter.

Give me back full squad control and management, being able to hot swap and control all friendly soldiers and a good command/order system with good friendly AI.
Additionally, a hardcore damage system with injuries just like the original. 1-2 shots and you should be dead. That difficulty is what set the tension and pace of taking it slow and planning missions.

But like I said earlier, I have zero expectations. They'll fuck this up and it'll be created to meet modern trends with a bloated UI, ridiculous outfits and basic brain rot gameplay.

Anyway, back to playing the originals. Still a great game with mods still coming out almost 25 years later.

I'll wait and see, but I am always going to have a soft spot for Tom Clancy titles of old, including R6 and Ghost Recon (Splinter Cell is my one love out of this universe). If desperate Ubisoft can deliver a great experience that has the spirit and essence of the old in good quality, then I will be there.

The onus is on you, Ubisoft. You're walking on thin Ice, and I will be under it when it breaks.
