Nexus Mods has been sold

After almost 24 years of running Nexus Mods, the time has come for me to step back from the day-to-day management of the site. This isn't a decision I've made lightly - far from it - but one I think is in both my and the community's best interests.

So yes, the ownership of Nexus Mods has changed hands, but I want to be clear, this isn't some corporate "exit" or a backroom deal. This is me doing something I probably should've done years ago: taking care of myself. Reclaiming some headspace. And finally letting go of the idea that I have to do everything and be responsible for everything myself.

I wonder if this will affect antiwoke mods.
The site is very useful for those who likes to modify stuffs, i hope it will be keep doing better

Nexus has been a dubious place for years now for having a clear political stance and being ironfist on banning any mods that they deem harmful due to "wong-thinking". I don't expect anything to improve and hope more people publish their mods elsewhere. Not even game banana has been a safe space for mods lately.

This is gonna suck hard.

Really regretting not buying the lifetime membership when it was still new.

New ownership is just slang for incoming monetization to recover investment.

Good news everyone, he has been hired as head design director on the next Stellar Blade game. Can't wait to see what kind of input he'll have on it!

Fuck that dude. Still remember how the site banned all mods making Judy romanceable for male V but Panam for female V was fine. And this is only one of many examples. I don't think the site could have gotten any worse, so let's see if it stays the same or there will be a positive change.

Stellar Blade flood of mods broke the dude.

Maybe, but if this happens people will just migrate en masse to some other new site. It'll take time, but that's what would happen in the end. My next best guess will be that the new owners will increase the amount of ads and make them mandatory to watch before download button appears.

I wonder how much that site is worth.

It'll take a long time though. I've seen stuff like this happen a lot. In most cases users prefer convenience over principles. As long as Nexus continues to be the biggest and easiest repository of user made mods, it'll continue to be popular.

It'll take a lot of effort to be better than nexus in the part that matters which is modding. I don't really like that I have to suffer in that timeframe.

After reading his statement.....my impression is nothing will change (or it gets even worse). He seems to be happy who is in charge now and in line with his "values"!!! ;)
Someone paid money for that site with the goal to earn money, so the "values" will go where the money is.

The comments under his statement are really funny.

Where will people get their neatly curated mods with easy to use software for installation then ?
Ideally you dont need extra software to use and install mods. This is just for ultra lazy people who cant even copy&paste anymore or people who are installing thousands of mods at once. I for myself never used the Vortex manager....not once. Just gimme the files and I am fine. Every site can do that and there are already enough alternatives. Its just the people who are too lazy and convenient to change their own habits, even if a company acts against their own interests. 🤷‍♂️

Genuine question, what good modding websites exist if people say Nexus is a bad one.

Nexus used to be good. But in recent years they turned into a bunch of SJWs, constantly censoring things that didn't match their political ideology.
We can only hope that this new administration can steer Nexus Mods, back into line.

I used it for save mods in Kingdom Come deliverance because I am not using potions to save.

It would be good to know who the new owner are and how they will censor.

First thing new owner will do is asking "How can i make this more profitable to get my money back?". Expect more ads, more expensive subs and so on. Maybe a nice little paywall here and there.

The absolute best answer to this is to stop removing mods that they don't like. Like these are game files for a single player game. How dare someone tell me I can't change how an NPC looks in a single player game I bought? Like what are we even doing?

If they are adult only they should go under the mature section.

If they are illegal they should be removed, but only if they are illegal. Legality should be the bar.

If they did that they would triple their money and could go retire somewhere on an island forever.

Yup. That is exactly what I mean. As long as Nexus makes things ultra easy it will always exist in the market and rightfully so. None other has that great library, discussion or search functionality. Losing Nexus will be a huge loss.
