NFL 2011 Week 17 |OT| It's Time To Shut Up, Fat Boy

Lions beat GB and the 5th seed is theirs. That would be absolutely huge. They'll be going all out next week. It will be interesting to see if GB plays starters for a while to screw them over or just goes for the full week off.

Rodgers will play either a few series, one half, or not at all.

I'm guessing towards not at all based on what Rodgers has said.

We really need to rest our O-Line but I don't think we have anywhere near a full complement of backups. Should be fun to see all of our special teamers get some time in though.

Looking at the gif of the year thread, I had forgot that the Giants did the fake injury thing versus the Rams. The Rams that barely score 10 pts a game. And the Giants had to go "no mas" b/c Bradford and Mike Simms-Walker were destroying them.

I'm certainly not mad. w/o that the Rams wouldn't be in the running for Luck, and the Giants would be eliminated from the playoff hunt. So it was win-win

I agree with going for the record, and getting it over with. Brees might not want to admit it but it was having an effect on his game. What were we suppose to do kneel down with 5 minutes left? We could have ran the ball, but the Falcons could not stop that all night either, it was arguably more effective then the passing game with the off night Brees was having. SP said before the game that if they got close they would go for it then call a time out after, so that was not a shock. Can't comment the PA announcer becuse Icould not hear him in the dome.

I hope not. *IF* the Giants make the playoffs I would much rather host the Falcons in the Meadowlands. Let's go Falcons/Boo Detroit.

The Falcons can still be the 5th seed only if GB goes all out and don't rest starters, both teams are 6-5 in conf, the Falcons have Tampa Sunday that should be an easy win, but I can see them sitting starters to play the NFC East winner instead of going to back to NO...

I think the starters will get a quarter against the Lions. Suh didnt stomp until the second right?

Most starters will play most of the game. There just aren't enough guys healthy to sit everyone on the o-line, running back and linebacker for example. I don't think Rodgers will play a snap. What's the point? I look forward to his post game press conference when they hang 50 on whichever crap team they play in round 2. "Man, I wish we had played that week 17 game. Really hurt the offense. Wonder how good we could have done if we had played..."

:jnc!

So, now that Jeff Tripplette has completely changed one of the core fundamentals of football officiating and has proclaimed it acceptable to tackle defenders on screen plays, will week 17 see any throws down field? I'm not sure why any team would run any play other than a screen.

Isn't the NBA all filthy euro-trash now a days?

BTW the OP lacked this .gif, I am disappoint:

Trucked, posterized, whatever you want to call it, that is shameful. I can understand getting hammered by Jacobs, but Bradshaw? lol

The Saints will at worst be the 3 seed. 3 hosts 6 and 4 hosts 5. Falcons need the 5 if they want to go to NY instead of heading back to the dome.

I can't remember, are they re-seeding this year? I know there has been talk of it for years but can't remember if it happened. Will the Packers play the winner of 4/5 no matter what, or will they get 6 when the Saints get Seahawk'd?

Falcons have no chance now of being the 3 seed, so that's not possible. They're 5 or 6. Detroit controls their own destiny as to whether they get the 5 or 6 seed.

lol brain fart on that..... yeah they won't rest starters they want to avoid NO so they will thrash Tampa Sunday, and hope GB beats the crap out of the Lions.

#1 has always gotten the lower seed, haven't they?

I think it stayed the same. Packers will always get lower seed.

So if everything holds true to form, we'd get the fucking awesome matchup of NO @ SF. That's going to be a hell of a game. Giants will visit Lambeau and get revenge against the refs and Packers.

Nobody was saying they shouldn't go for the record. It's the faux "Oh, I wasn't even thinking about it" while furiously passing while up by 20 that people are rolling their eyes over. Just admit it and move on.

I think NO vs SF would be the most lopsided playoff game and the biggest disappointment.

I can never remember. At some point some sport didn't and now I think none of them do when most probably do. Don't do drugs, kids.

It shows either a complete lack of football knowledge (I didn't know why we were passing, I just throws the ball when coach sir a-tells me, yuck yuck) or an abject contempt for an audience he thinks is so stupidly, laughably idiotic that they will buy his bullshit.

I wonder if Brady will go for it. I'm so used to Week 17 becoming another pre-season extension game. Would be nice, I always thought it was a really cool stat Marino had.

I almost wish Brady would get it at the end of week 17, since Brees obviously doesn't care about it.

On the other hand, fuck the Pats.

I hope Brady has a monster first half and passes Brees. Then, they go back and forth passing each other. Each time one passes the other, the game will stop for ten minutes while the announcers scream over and over on the PA.

It will be tough Drew is 190 yards ahead. The Saints will play there starts since the game is still important(no I dont think 49ers lose to the rams.)

...and the camera will keep cutting to a confused John McEnroe.

That bothered me too. I know it's your home turf, but I thought that was so disrespectful to the Falcons. There's like 3 minutes left in the game. Play, then have your ceremony.

Niners released Braylon Edwards?

lulz

That's crazy. Was he not playing? Maybe he wants to be reunited w/fatty? Is he a FA after the year? If not, Rams should put in a claim. Only pay one game and control rights in offseason

edit: lol his stats are terrible, and he is a FA after the year nvmd

Baseball is the only sport you can kind of do this properly. It's less about the players being disrespectful though. The Ray Allen one was a great example last year. Ray is one of the nice guys in the league, but the league marketed the hell out of the game so he was obligated to react. Was forced to hug that scumbag Reggie Miller a couple dozen times or so.

I like your description of the European players.

How do you describe the black guys who still mostly constitute the NBA. Is there a difference in how you talk about them with friends and family and with strangers?

I haven't had a conversation about the NBA since Ray Allen was traded from the Bucks with friends, family or strangers. But looking at pictures of Baron Davis in the Wall Street Journal, it appears the NBA has been infested with hipsters. I'd rather there were more Spreewell's. Honest kids struggling to make ends meet fighting back against the man. I bet he is a libertarian.

I think the only reason it's best done in baseball is because they're not douches who deny they want personal records as the sport is more structured towards personal accolades.

Didn't see the Ray Allen one, what record did he break?

hahaha

How great would it be if the Bungles beat the Ravens, the Bills beat the Pats, and Charlie Batch began the Steeler march back to the Superbowl against the Browns (he will leave the game injured in the 3rd quarter, but the 14 point he scored up to that point should be enough to hold off McCoy)?

I also wouldn't mind seeing Rodgers get jealous of this Flynn guy that Packer fans yearn for.

Ok just finished watching the game. The grandstanding wasnt that bad. Brees pointed at the crowd and he congratulated teammates. Total class act throughout and he deserved every bit of it. It was a huge home game that locked up nfc south, swept a pretty good team, and broke a historic record. I think he handled it really really well.

He broke the record for most three-pointers made.

He's been hurt pretty much all season. Tweaked his knee in the Cowboys game and then did something to his shoulder.

He never got in sync with the offense due to all the time that he missed.

The 49ers are really thin at WR\TE right now due to injuries

Morgan is on IR
Ginn was hurt in the Steelers game
Williams's status isn't known due to the cheap shot Seattle gave him.
Walker is probably done for the year with a busted jaw.

The only healthy WR\TEs they currently have are Vernon Davis, Crabtree and Brett Swain.

Anyone know who's available in free agency (and don't say TO because that's not happening).

Both at 4 right? Lame. I want the Bengals to get in.
The Pats game is at one. They have to win to guarantee themselves the one seed.

If the Pats and Ravens lose and the Steelers win then Batch will get us the one seed and gets the starting job until some team breaks all of his bones (he is the real Mr. Glass).

Just imagine a rematch in the Superbowl between Packers/Steelers with Batch versus Flynn as the qbs with Rodgers and Ben on the sidelines? It would be the greatest troll of all time.
