Lovie is going to have a press conference at 2PM Central time regarding all the cuts. Unfortunately I can't hear it but those arond Chicago can hear it on The Score. I've seen a couple names come through and the biggest surprise has to be Bryan Robinson. He has been a servicable tackle at best, but after his wrist injury his production has gone downhill! I think that is pretty substantial cut right now. He has been originall penciled in as a starter, but he hurt his wrist again last week and I think that got him the axe! Looks like the Bears are making room for the young guns to take over this team. Bears have one hell of a defensive lineup right now. Only problem is they are all very young.

Other cuts:

Ahmad Merrit, Abdullah, Brian Knight, Brock Forsey

I'll update the list as I find out more. I wanna see who else got cut from other teams. Maybe someone we can pick up. :p

Steelers have 10 cuts to make, and players who are on the fringe that I hope to see on the final roster include Matt Kranchik and Dante Brown. One move they made yesterday was to trade their only solid backup lineman to the Panthers. Good job, guys.

Also, I hope Alonzo Jackson is nowhere near the final roster.

They are going to make 9 more today, I believe...but none of them should be major. As long as they don't cut Clarance Moore I'm happy.

FUCK. Dante Brown (RB) got cut. And Jackson(OLB) got a roster spot. Dammit. Brown has had two very solid preseasons and will in no way stay for the practice squad with the position so many teams are in at RB. Other players cut:

LB Adrian Ross
DT Kendrick Clancy
S Russell Stuvaints
K Rob Bironas
FB J.T. Wall
C Drew Caylor
OT Bo Lacy
LB Dedrick Roper
DE Eric Taylor.

Fordham leaving doesn't bother me, he was a turnstile. Keeping four TEs again I'm not in favor of, I would have cut Jay R. This would have allowed them to keep Brown. I would have kept Stuvaints over Willie Williams too. It also would have been nice if they found a way to keep Bironas, if for nothing else than as a kickoff specialist. Reed doesn't have the same kind of distance. I guess the rest of the cuts don't bother me so much.

EDIT: Interesting to note however, is that 4 out of 5 of the Steelers' second day draft picks did not make the cut. But, with the expanded practice squad this year, I'm sure we'll see most of them surface again.

INJURED RESERVE
LB Jessie Armstead
DT Shane Burton

RELEASED
G Travis Claridge
CB Terrance Shaw
T Melvin Tuten

WAIVED
QB Rob Adamson
DT Jordan Carstens
T Javiar Collins (We traded a 2005 draft pick for this guy and then release him? What a waste)
CB Marcus Floyd
RB Joey Harris
OL Mike Houghton
CB Eddie Jackson (This guy was looking real good. Here's hoping he makes the practice squad)
TE Adam Johnson
WR Scott McCready
G Kaulana Noa
WR Jon Olinger
QB Rod Rutherford (Why in God's name did we cut this guy? We should've just cut Peete and kept Rutherford. Here's hoping a team that needs a good backup QB [Buffalo? Miami?] doesn't pick him up and we can get him on our practice squad)
LB Sean Tufts

I'm pissed at the cuts of Eddie Jackson and Rod Rutherford. We should've waived Peete and somone else and kept Rutherford and Jackson.

Dolphins terminated the contracts of the following players:

* WR Antonio Freeman
* TE John Jones

Freeman? That was fast.

The eagles cut levens. I didnt see that one coming... He didnt play all that well in the preseason game but its not like he had much help from the offensive line. He can still play IMO. They either have a deal in the works or will pick up a RB who was cut from another team, or they are just stupid. Right now its just Westbrook and Mahe.

If they don't pick up another RB, let me tell you right now...Westbrook will get hurt. You just know it will happen. Like someone else said in another thread, because the Chiefs cut legend Morten Andersen, they were going to lose a game because of a missed kick. Like they say, Karma's a bitch :p

edit - Although if I were the Eagles, I'd definately pick up Dante Brown, whom the Steelers cut. He looked pretty good during the preseason games against Carolina and [team I can't remember].

Redskins posted their cuts...

Fred Baxter, TE
Ryan Boschetti, DT
Rufus Brown, CB
Sean Dillard, WR
Dameane Douglas, WR
Pita Elisara, OL
Bill Ferrario, OL
Gibran Hamdan, QB
Cedric Killings, DT
Ola Kimrin, K
Ben Nowland, OL
Gari Scott, WR
Marcus Spriggs, OL
Leonard Stephens, TE
Daryl Terrell, OL
Garnell Wilds, CB
Jafar Williams, WR
Darrell Wright, DE

I'm really surprised that Rashad Bauman and Regan Upshaw were cut. Upshaw was one of their trophy prizes from last year's free agency and with Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels' injury bugs, I'm surprised he's gone. That said, Ron Warner (who got his spot) looked awesome in preseason. He could be one of those undrafted-turned-awesome guys.

Bauman was another surprised. He was actually a third-rounder. He flashed some skills on and off last year. Who knows. I hope nobody signs him.

Tim Couch for sale? Fuck Doug Flutie, the Patriots should sign Couch! Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Bowser: Since Javier Collins was released, we no longer are sending a pick to the Cowboys. The pick was conditional upon his making the final roster, as I understand it. You can look at it as we sent that pick to Pittsburgh (probably 6th rounder) for Fordham. Keeping both would have cost us two picks, and obviously the FO felt Collins was worse than Fordham.

I'm sad for Armstead basically not making the team, but he didn't look very good in preseason at all. Ciurciu and Short both look like solid backup LBs and will contribute more on special teams than Armstead could. It's always a little fishy when you see someone who you didn't even know was hurt go on IR for the year ;)

I hope Rutherford, Jackson, and RB Harris slip through to our practice squad. All three could/should make our team next year.

Whew, at least we didn't waste a pick. I agree with you about Rutherford and Jackson, not too sure about Harris. He didn't look to good against the Steelers, but that might have been their defense and our 3rd string o-line not being good enough to open holes for him.

I've just read good things about Harris, but I agree, he hasn't done much in preseason. I attribute that to our truly "offensive" line though. Damn, a big strength for us last year has become a huge weakness. Might end up costing us big time.

FUCK. I am still pissed off about Brown. Fucking Willie Parker. Ugh.

And the Eagles are going to get him. Argh. There's no way they cut Levens without somebody in mind, and Brown did very well against the Eagles. Dammit.

damn, Couch is only what? like 4 yers removed from being a number 1 overall pick? Fuck, did he even last longer than Ryan Leaf?

im also suprised at Upshaw getting cut by the Skins. We don't exactly have a huge amount of depth on the Dline, but i have to trust in the power of Gibbs.

Couch lasted much longer than Leaf. He was about Akili Smith range :p I still think he was servicable, but he has been troubled with an arm injury this offseason. Granted, I'm not as convinced now as I was this time last year that he can be a starter if placed on a decent team, but I believe he can be a good backup.

Oh hell, some other notable cuts: Jason Gildon(OLB, Bills), and Terell Buckley (S, Patriots)

Two players who have had great careers, and can both help thin positions on the Steelers roster :p

I'm sure Gildon doesn't hold too many ill feelings for being cut earlier this year....come on, re-sign Gildon and drop Alonzo Jackson's ass!

For Bowser:

Panthers Practice Squad
Jordan Carstens DT
Joey Harris RB
Mike Houghton OL
Eddie Jackson CB
Adam Johnson TE
Rod Rutherford QB
Sean Tufts LB

Glad to see Tufts, Rutherford, Harris, and Jackson sticking around. I hate that Tufts (6th round pick) didn't make the team, I missed that. Hopefully he'll be better prepared next year. Also now we can get Rutherford into NFLE and have him as number 3 next year :D

Yes! Glad to Rutherford and Jackson on the team, and I hope Harris and Tufts pan out.

Yeah, another team theoretically could sign any of our players off the Practice squad and put them on their 53 man roster, but that's unlikely. A team would have to be hit very hard to consider a rookie QB like Rutherford mid-season and who doesn't know their system. A team like that would be much more likely to pick up a veteran. Hope Rod can mature this year and turn out better than Fasani :p

More than likely because a player on an opening day roster come Monday (today?) and with a certain amount of years played gets his salary guaranteed for the year.

Some vets will get signed up tomorrow I'm guessing, so the team doesn't have to pay them all year if they don't work out.
