NFL Sacks Blitz

NFL Network refuses to air Blitz commercial.

See the video the league doesn't want you to see.

October 6, 2005 - You won't be seeing Ron Mexico on the NFL Network anytime soon. And you can forget about watching touchdown celebrations from the greatest receiver in the game, T.O. Mass (announcers pronounce it Moss). That's because after receiving initial clearance to promote Blitz: The League on the NFL Network through paid commercial advertisements, the people at Midway have just been informed that the NFL Network is now pulling out, refusing to show the spot headlined by one of the league's own legends, Lawrence Taylor.

"I think it's for the same reasons the NFL's not fans of Any Given Sunday or Playmakers," says Steve Allison, Chief Marketing Officer of Midway. "They are very conservative about the message that goes around the sport of football, and our message is more of a good-time, mature-rated game."

Blitz: The League's over the top, story-driven season mode includes everything from players sending hookers to their opponent's hotel rooms the night before the game to coaches deciding whether they want their players to heal naturally and take a week off or take a needle to hop right back into the fray.

"That's not in line with the NFL's corporate view of things," adds Allison. I'm sure showing a commercial for an unlicensed, competing football game has a lot to do with it as well."

:lol And the fact that the NFL are bed buddies with EA has nothing to do with it...

:lol

I totally want this game, especially if it really is a throwback to old school Blitz (the stuff before Pro).

actually i dont think EA has shit to do with this. Obviously the NFL wouldnt want to be associated with a game promoting the use of hookers and steroids(/heroine?)

I dont think the NFL cares all that much about EA, if EA didnt buy that contract someone else would

ESPN did a story on this game, Madden and the NFL where Ray Buchanan (not sure if he's still playing) got repeatedly owned by some guy from EGM.

Folks at Midway probably enjoyed the Ravens/Lions game this weekend....

Don't suppose you could give a more detailed account of the story and what he said, could you?

He basically used the typical videogame argument. "We're trying to bring our kids up in a violent society and we don't need violent videogames adding to it". The guy from EGM would quickly brought up the ratings system, which the EA guy agreed with completely, leaving Buchanan left out by himself to try to defend him. He seemed really obsessed with the whole thing and kept trying to say that games like Blitz shouldn't be on the market because kids can get play them. It was then brought up that the ESRB and game makers have been doing everything they can to keep them out of kids hands and now its time for parents to step in and start doing their job. I can't remember that EGM guys name, but he should go on other shows when they start having these violence in games debates just so he can bring up the parent issue because it shuts people up fairly quickly.

Its just like the NFL putting massive pressure on ESPN to cancel its series "playmakers". IT shows alot of truths about the NFL and sport that the NFL just doesn't want to talk about.
