I guess the Redskins will be right next to the Texans on this road to nowhere.
I'm not so sure. They've got the talent and a proven coach. It just takes time for
any new team to click. Although, I'm not going to say a sub-.500 season is not going to happen, because anything is possible. Most teams gel in Week 5 and on, so I'm not going to say the Redskins are done. I am pretty sure New England was either 1-2 or 2-2 this time last year and they won the Super Bowl.
The last team to beat New England? The Redskins.
The thing that worries me about the Redskins are the fact they are being outcoached. They have the talent, but it might take a year for him to get used to the new NFL. He definitely has no clue about time management and how to use the running game at this point.
Gibbs definitely has to knock some rust off, but how can you say the team is being outcoached? The running game isn't his fault and it isn't necessarily all Portis' fault. There are two problems. One, Portis is
too fast. Gibbs' system requires a back to cut, be patient and let the linemen set before you hit the hole. Portis is moving too fast from the start. And second, Portis is complaining that the Browns knew the playbook, insinuating Gibbs is repeating the plays. This is probably true, but when the Redskins played the Cowboys, he tried to spice it up and it ended up as blown timeouts as Brunell fumbled the terminology and almost cause delay of game. Twice.
They definitely need to the players to gel with the system, but it's hard because the Redskins have had a new offensive coordinator (and coach!) almost every year and the defense has had a new coordinator EVERY year since 1999. That's ridiculous.
Texans fans are in denial about their place in the league? Have you heard any Texans fans say that we are going to the Super Bowl this year? Hey we know this is the 3rd season for the team, we know we are growing into a contender. But we do know we have the building blocks to have a team that is going to be a power in this league. Not sure where all this hate for any team that is not the Redskins comes from.
The Texans love on this board and abroad is a little nuts. It is the third biggest moneymaker in the league behind the Cowboys and Redskins, so I had no clue that Houston and its fans were so numerous. People were going off about how this is third year, and three is that magic number where Houston will hit its stride.
Not really.
It honestly doesn't look like that at all. And I'd give Houston a chance to compete for a wildcard if it wasn't in the same division as Indianapolis, Tennessee and Jacksonville.
