Ninja Five-O - rare or not?

so I walk into the local Fred Meyer today and there's a copy of it in their bargain bin with a 25%-off coupon attached to it. should I get it? I looked at ebay and it's not going for much at all but I had heard it was pretty rare.

Heh, my Fred Meyer has like 3 or 4 sealed copies marked down as well. Maybe I should scoop them up in case fellow gaffers are looking for it in the future.

Maybe you should! PM me if you get one. ;)

Hey, I bought that yesterday! It's called Ninja Cop here in Europe.

And geuss what, they also had a copy of Castlevania: AOS. Unbelievable!

That was my lucky day. And Ninja Cop was only CHF 30.- (about 24$).

EDIT: But our box art sucks in comparsion to the US :(

Pretty much any early GBA game not made by Nintendo themselves has become rare or 'hard to come by'. But Ninja Five-O was pretty much rare from the get-go.

One day, when all the dust has settled, and we're all playing our GBA3 and our PSP2s, and old GBA games have become collectable items, I think Ninja Five-O will be one of the most highly sought and expensive titles.

Go get it.

alright already, I got it.

I won't be selling it, I think I'll see what the fuss is about (but I will keep the box and everything in good condition, just in case).

$2.02 savings...that's one hell of a discount

not that it matters since Ninja Five-O is worth more than $30

I looked everywhere for that game the only place that seems to have it was Fred Meyer which was on sale, and picked it up awesome game. :D

I managed to pick up one copy, but the shrinkwrap is in bad shape. It was $29 with tax, so I'll let it go for $30 by Paypal (those who asked first have first dibs).

I picked my copy up for aorund $23 when I first say the game and it's great. It can be hard sometimes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's also pretty rare as has been mentioned in this thread many times over.

haha, just today it dawned on me "hey I wonder what it would go for on ebay..." since I work there and we have 2 copies ourselves.

ninja five-o was okay, but it's way overrated as this thread proves. I'd like to see a sequel with some of the game mechanics from the original polished to make it a much better game. I could see great things for a game like this on the DS with the touchscreen*

*think about it ;)

I'm so weaksauce with the game, though... couldn't beat level 2... Not a whole fan of starting back at the beginning of the sublevel every time you die.

Apologies for the crankiness in my last reply - it was late and it didn't quite come out as I intended...

Anyway, there's really nothing else like Ninja Five-O on GBA as far as original software. It's a hardcore arcade-style action game that requires mastery of a lot of well-tuned moves (drawn from classics like Bionic Commando, Shinobi, Rolling Thunder) at a level of player skill that nothing else on the system matches. For someone like me, who finds an awful lot of the action games on GBA to be dull and limp-wristed and prefers tight arcade-style action, it's a breath of fresh air. I also happen to really like the games that influenced it. :)

Oh, and it looks great, too!

I've got no problem with your description of the gameplay (as I agree with it 100%), but LOOKS GREAT?

Are you insane? It's got worse graphics than many 1st gen Super Nintendo games! It looks more like an NES game with an early SNES color scheme applied, in fact. The game is absolutely hideous. Bad graphics, bad animation. The game features well conceived and fully developed gameplay, but was rendered visually obsolete by the very first launch games that the GBA came out with!

Eh, it just has a very clean, detailed look with nice use of color that I find pleasing. There's not a lot of animation, but as the gameplay is an extension of early-90s console and arcade games, I thought the graphics compared very favorably with the game's roots. It improves on them by using modern storage capacity and color palette, while staying faithful to the sort of 'realistic' style common in action games back then.

I saw three copies of Ninja Five-O at a Fred Meyer today on clearance for $24.99, but there is a 50% off all clearance games coupon this week (snagged Shadow Hearts Covenant for $9), so they'd be $12.50. I didn't buy them today, but maybe I'll go back tomorrow and pick them up.

I'd love a copy. Would you be interested in grabbing one of the extras for me? :)
