Ninja Gaiden Hurricane Pack questions..

I just got ninja gaiden finally, and i've been playing through the game on normal (stuck at 2nd level for now, it's quite hard:( ) and downloaded the hurricane packs, but I'm not sure if they affected the game in any way. I thought it was supposed to add a movable camera, new enemies and weapons? Can anyone clarify what the hurricane packs exactly do?

I've only tried the first, you have to start the game by entering the master ninja tournament. You can load up and play offline once you do that, but it has to be started via master ninja tournament.

Don't know about the second.

EDIT- And I would reccomend NOT playing them until you have a very good handle on the game. If you're having trouble on the second level on normal difficulty you're not ready for the hurricane packs yet. I can pretty well and decimate the game on normal without blinking an eye, and I still find the first hurricane pack very challenging. I've heard the second pack is even harder.

From what I recall, to use the alternate costumes, when you select one of the Hurricane Pack missions, hold either the black or white button (each is a different costume). To use the new camera system, click the right analog stick.

So to use the camera and costumes I need to play Master ninja tournament? It doesn't work in normal single player?

BTW any general tips about the game? ie how to use the essences more efficiently and such would be apperaciated :)

You can only get the enhancements while playing the actual hurricane packs IIRC. They don't affect the original game.

Remember there are different types of Hurricane packs. If I recall, #2 is just random enclosed areas with new characters/bosses and #1 is the actual game with the before mentioned tweaks/additions (camera and such). However the enemies in this version are still harder than that of the normal game, so take the advice given and don't bother with it for now till you're actually good. :p

But if you insist. As someone said, you only need to start it while online, after you save the first time you can continue offline as usual.

One handy thing to know is that you charge very quickly if you start your charge right when you land from a jump. This comes in handy later when you get different kinds of charge attacks. This may seem obvious, but don't try and charge unless you absolutely know you have time. Most of the time it's not necessary(although it can be very useful), and often times is somewhat dangerous.

Learn how to play defensively, but not so defensively that they throw you alot. I don't know if there are any ways to break throws, and the only way to guard against a throw is to do an attack before they throw you.

The game's combat is actually quite interesting in the regard of being able to get the right balance of offense and defense, while also having good execution, being able to read the computer and plan ahead, and knowing how to play the different things the AI will throw at you. That's what makes the game so hard. It's also what makes the game so damn good.

Thanks for the tips. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's like the best parts of a third person action game and a fighting game combined. The combat is sublime. I wish they had an arena mode where I can plow through enemies though.. I can only assume that it gets even better on harder difficulties.

Don't worry, you'll get your 'arena' type battles if you decide to backtrack a bit for extra health in many areas. They will test you[/understatement]

Then there's Hurricane Pack #2, which is as 'arena' as you can get. Ninjas on fire running through a hospital zone while being chased by helicopters doesn't even begin to describe the hell that is HP2.
