Ninja Gaiden II: The Official GAF Thread of Chaos

trudging through warrior, but with the original lifebar and only using the dragon sword to make it interesting. died about twice up to ch.5, then died about 10 times trying to get across the water in the part after you shoot the bridge down with the bow :lol I was just fucking around and trying to cheese it so I didn't have to do on water combat.

I don't think I used IS that much on my original playthrough, but they're just plain godlike, especially for the werewolves.

Oh, and the werewolves are still fucking awesome. The opening cutscene just makes no sense to the point of hilarity. These people are walking around la-di-da, with a lair of werewolves right there in their city without knowing it? :lol

The Missions in NGB are WAY better than the campaign stuff (at least on Normal, just starting a new Hard campaign). Also much better balanced than any of the Test of Valor from NG2. Mind you, I do feel a bit weird constantly wallrun>jump>landing UT on everything, with the occasional block-breaking combo.

Is Ninja Gaiden Black worth checking out if I already beat Ninja Gaiden multiple times? And is the emulation decent on the 360? I read there was some slowdown and the CG cut-scenes were all messed up. Would rather spend the cash on that then renting NG3 for the week.

definitely worth it. CG scenes are messed up, but the game is fine. It's a remixed version of NG1 with a bunch of new content in the form of missions

Fought clone Ryu. Then died to the cat lady/reapers right after that. Yeh, Hard is definitely more fun that normal.

*edit*

Seriously, I'm enjoying Hard more than normal. Interesting encounters, and I look forward to killing minions during boss fights (blue essence and easier insta UTs).

Playing the harder difficulties... is kind of the point of the NG games (especially NGB given how thoroughly it is revamped on each difficulty). You miss out on a ton by not playing them. Great action games in general are designed around the top end difficulties.

Its funny, the boss battles seem easier on Hard, since I can gain blue essence/insta UTs from the minions.

Clone Ryu was my first real "continue more than 10 times" moment. The cat ladies are actually not that hard to fight off, and these Cyber Tyron guards are cool. I'm guessing I'm going to get the Windmill Shuriken in a different place since the Lunar was in a different pick up spot.

If anything, Hard plays more to the strengths of the battle mechanics. I find myself dissecting how to handle certain fiends more often than on Normal, where I can just use whatever weapon I want, while on Hard I'll use whatever weapon is best suited for the situation.

we've got people playing through Black posting in both the NG2 and NG3 threads...time for a general Ninja Gaiden 1 OT? I could do it up, if we can make the strategy section a group effort.

Honestly, we might as well just make a general NG thread. We only really have 3 games (4 if you count the NG on the DS) to play, even if they come in a variety of forms (NG1 alone has Vanilla, Black, Sigma, and Vita).

Wouldn't it be better to coordinate with gunbo13 and add to an action-gaf OT? That is the plan once the DMCHD thread goes to community. Or would that be a bigger clusterfuck?

That seems too broad a catergory. DMC is a completely different kind of beast than NG. Besides, that would mean we'd have to let those God of War philistines in as well.

Argh, I just want the red scarf costume in Black.

I thought you got it for beating the missions, but turns out I was wrong, you get the DOA costume for that.

I'm going to have to play through on hard again to get it. Fine, I just didn't think I'd be playing through the game AGAIN so soon...

I'm enjoying the HELL out of HARD. It's literally a brand new game.

Haha.

Point taken, although I am curious to know if GOW ever developed a high level scene. Imay see if I can find any.

No doubt, it's just that I literally JUST finished normal to unlock the missions, so I'm not really feeling like jumping back in and playing all the same areas, bosses, etc.

Maybe I'll play through Ninja Gaiden 2 and come back to it.

definitely a giant clusterfuck...can't imagine a forum layout being conducive to discussing NG1+2, DMC1+3, Godhand, and Bayonetta all at once.

I will see about whipping something up tonight. In a bad mood though because I am sucking at all games this evening. it's all umvc3's fault!

Haha.

Some videos of GOW literally involve Kratos spinning in place for 30 minutes to "GET THE HIGHEST COMBO". Yeh, no.

A NG series thread would be cool. Could make it a NG boot camp.

Also, is it weird that I'm getting zero essence in some of my level scores? I swear I've been killing and collecting essence like no tomorrow and still getting Greater/Head Ninja. The one stage I got Ninja Dog was the Aquaduct/Doku 2 stage, since I didn't bother fighting any thing in that stage (other than speargunning the whale things) and Doku wasn't even that hard. And I was getting ZERO essence there too. A bug maybe?

if you spend more than you made in the stage, it counts as zero.

The scoring is way stricter in NG1 vs NG2. I mean REALLY strict. KILL KILL KILL in NG2? Master Ninja All day. Kill Kill Kill in NG1? You upgraded 2 weapons, no essence bonus for you.

Eh, I guess that's what Karma runs/mission modes are for.

you gotta do the hidden fiend challenges and chain UTs all day in them for essence. I forget where the first one is in Black...the zombie room with the chalice maybe? when you revisit it after bone dragon.

the first one in sigma is at the back of the airship.

also, some fights respawn and if you can do those a couple times fast enough, you can boost kill count plus karma. no extra points though, unless you're playing vanilla.

You can get the essence bonus on every stage pretty easily, unless you buy the Unlabored Flawlessness in one of them.

it's so annoying, i spammed potions just to run past that part :lol

Not as annoying as the part just before the bone dragon boss in NG1-- when you start the ascent back up, there are three archer zombies lined up that will not let you pass and they respawn if you get knocked off.

they throw out hawkeye gimlets as soon as you let go of block + you have to platform to get to each one. If I don't have incendiary shurikens to waste on them and don't feel like being patient, I get fucked up on that part bad haha

ok, gotta make this NG1 OT. It'll start out very basic and I'll add more as I get feedback and think of things to add. For now, just want a place to discuss the game exclusively.

Yeh, I'm just going to the courtyard in front of the Monastery where the 3 catfiends keep respawning.

Yeh, that's one of the crappy platform bits. Also that Indiana Jones giant boulder bit. Not terribly hard, I just find myself saying "ugh, sure why not".

While we're on Official Action Game threads, are there any other action games beside DMC/Bayo/NG that anyone likes? I have a preference for Yakuza/Ryuga Gotoku. If it only had co-op, it'd be like Double Dragon resurrected for the current gen.

I got thru it but yes it just annoys me.

And you can beat the boss by
standing around and shooting charged arrows all day everyday.
WUT?

I really need to continue NGB again since the thing that scarred me the most the most was that puzzle where you move the platforms IIRC, augh.

Scoring in NG2's campaign is all about milking. Milk every enemy as much as possible by barely touching them with a UT. Scoring in NG1 is about spamming UTs most efficiently to finish each encounter before the timer expires.

Both are really lame in comparison to NG2's survival mission scoring.

Been playing Ninja Gaiden II on Mentor, and I'm really starting to feel comfortable dealing with the missile guys. Definitely enjoying the game more than Warrior mode, which I really liked as well.

So much more mileage in both this and Black. It's kind of ridiculous.

Went back last night officially, Mentor style. Elizabet handed it to me a few times before I shook off (some of) my rust. Now onto Chapter 11 and that opening gauntlet of enemies is eating me alive--no healing items in my inventory either. Feels damn good though. Combat is god-tier status.

Fiend_Ryu.jpg

Aside from the crotch demon, this looks awesome.

I just got screwed so badly thanks to a stupid glitch. I made it to wave 12 (3x giant bi-ped mechs, 3x 4-legged mechs, and marionettes) with the Flails in the Mentor loop of survival, which is a bitch of a wave on any difficulty, and the stupid 4-legged mech got stuck in a corner. When they get stuck, they keep running at full speed while spamming their machine gun directly at you, so I couldn't attack anything without getting hit for a big chunk of damage. So I had to waste my ninpo, which killed all of them, but left me with no resources to deal with the last 3 enemies that spawn. And of course, I died because I already used both of my grains.

I probably wouldn't have been able to make it to the Master Ninja round anyway, but that's still pretty annoying. At least I finished with a pretty good score (8 million), which puts me at 75m total karma for MM. I'm aiming for 85m, so I'm hoping I can get that last 10 from the survival because I really don't want to do any of the regular missions again.

PS. White Biometal Ryu is best Ryu.

Hey guys - I've never played vanilla NG2 (mostly due too lack of owning a 360) but I'm seriously considering changing all that. I've beaten the hell outta NGS, NGS2 and I'm currently playing NGS+ on the Vita....but I'm wondering if I should make the investment to play NG2 the way it was originally meant to be played.

That being said - I have a few questions about the game itself....I've read the OP and it says installing streamlines some of the framerate issues.

So I guess my questions are as follows:

How big is the install?
How big are the patches?
How big are the save files?
How many save slots are there?

I don't wanna spend a shitload of cash on a 360 just to play this game and there isn't much else on the 360 that I am interested....

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Man, survival sounds awesome. I'm going to pick it up the DLC as soon as I'm done with Mentor.

There are 20 save slots, not counting the autosave slots. I don't remember the install size, but I don't think it's one of the smaller games. Save files are sub 1mb, I think.

Yes I've finally received my copy from Ebay, about damn time. Now, before I get butchered, let's make sure I'm getting the real deal.

-Install the game on my 360
-Do NOT install the patch
-Begin with path of the warrior
-Press fucking BLOCK when the boss explodes (abandoned my play through years ago because of this shit)

Am I missing something ?

DO install the patch. It fixes a lot of stuff. The only 'downside' is that they reduced the amount of enemies that come at you at once in a certain area.

Epic stairs...less epic. (but still epic)

And goddamn @ Chapter 11. I am getting destroyed by IS Ninjas especially when you finally get to the first open area past the stairs and tower archers. Straight up rape going on. Loving every second. Soon the rust will be all gone and reflexes/muscle memory will awaken fully.

I'm aiming for 85m

(Thankfully, I didn't have to redo any of the regular missions)

Yay. My hands hurt.

My current high scores:

Mission 17 (TDS): 10,538,420
Mission 18 (Flails): 8,052,770
Mission 19 (Tonfa): 10,044,010
Mission 20 (Scythe): 10,053,100
Mission 21 (BotA): 10,460,900
Mission 22 (Kusari-Gama): 10,157,690
Mission 23 (Talons): 7,504,080
Mission 24 (Lunar): 8,692,710

My Lunar and Scythe scores are relatively weak, but I don't really like using them so I don't play their missions a whole lot. I can definitely do better with a few other weapons as well, so there's still a lot of room for improvement. Guess I'll start aiming for 100 million... after a break.

Holy shit, I remember being super proud when I cracked 2 million for all the weapons to finish my 1250 in this game. God damn.

Been stuck on the Chapter 14 bosses for about a week now.

It's funny, on the one hand, I'm oddly accepting about this. The programmers attempting to make the end of the game had a really difficult task ahead of them making challenging boss fights and keeping things fair. I'm not sure exactly what I would've done differently. I guess I sort of screwed myself; my save file is such that I'm right before Dagra Dai and I can't afford any items.

Frustrated, not really sure what to do

After reading this thread I decided to rebuy this. I got it for $10 used so not to bad. Man the missions are so fucking hard, even though I have been playing a ton of Sigma2 lately my skills still feel really rusty.
