Nintendo 3DS Software Showcase [E3 2012] - Trolls, come see how it's done.

Very well put, I agree one hundred percent.

They have a great holiday with NSMB2, Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario, Pokemon... but then what? There won't be another E3 for a year and they've only shown games for the next six months. In the time before last E3 and this E3 they didn't show much. What does that mean for games in 2013?

Nothing. It just means E3 is not held in high standing as a place to make announcements.
We didn't have many games Jan-May anyway this year.

I worry though, would have liked 'something'.

Paper Mario 3D and KH3D are going to be awesome, love the sticker idea in Paper Mario.

NSMB2 looks super disappointing from the footage shown, exploration looks boring, platforming nonexsistent. This looks like a B-team cash-in while the NSMB team is working on the WiiU game.

Epic Mickey looks too slow.

Mirror of Faith could be cool.

Fire Emblem coming to America is nice.

Overall, pretty okay, just wish Nintendo would have shown 2013 games at e3.

What about when they announce Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXrsK8ICp8E

Hear the a lot of pops from the audience.

Fans' reactions to Nintendo's E3 2012 conference:

Uhm...because it is.

You've owned other systems before correct? I mean this is destroyed by some of the PSP release years in the past. The third party support is abysmal. Castlevania and Kindom Hearts are high quality third party title games. Some of that other stuff is usually forgettable. When did anyone consider Lego Batman a killer app on any other release list? Heroes of Ruin and Transformer looked poor quality. That Mickey game is ok at best and nothing like Epic Mickey.

Don't they usually do their own thing around TGS? Maybe that's when they show off some 2013 titles.

Well people thought sony's was bad. Nintendo managed to fuck up three conferences back to back, with their new console launching within months.

Hey we have a separate conference just for 3ds, so much content we have no time to show etc etc

What a waste of time

There better be more games coming out in 2012 than the handful of logos they showed. Not even Theatrhythm (also out next month) got a mention. Stop talking Nintendo strategy because they have no strategy. Pair this with Reggie's awful smugness...

Epic Mickey has some BAD animation. Goodness...just go 3D if it has to look that terrible. Maybe it was just the stream, but I didn't seem like it.

So you're just going to ignore NSMB2, Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario? Good job.

When a Lugi's Mansion, Paper Mario, Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, Castlevania, Epic Mickey and a Super Mario game is all releasing within the same year, that's a pretty great line up.

Obviously Nintendo had a strategy in place for E3. Its as clear as day they did.

Animal Crossing apparently getting a stealth push into 2012 is painful, made even worse by being coupled with Layton's baffling absence. I'm still holding out minor hope that Layton may somehow make it, but this almost felt like a conference de-announcing games. Feels bad.

I look forward to hearing the ideas behind all these 'PSP games' you've created as part of your delusions; might be some nice ideas in there.

There are good third party games like Code of Princess and Zero Hour coming this fall. Blame Nintendo for not showing them.

It's clear Western 3rd party support is not there even after Iwata told investors it was getting better. Scribblenauts and Castlevania were there showcase games. Those look good, but it's not impressive. I wasn't expecting it to be, but after Iwata said that I got some hope.

Still, yes, there are good games coming this year.

I guess it depends your age range or taste. I certainly don't play Pokemon games. But again. I don't think there is variety. You don't have any evergreen games, nor any non-cartoony games besides Castelvania. I think it is absolutely harmful to the 3DS overall demographic. They could have used some more varied first- and third- party games. Period.

Thank god for the stealth fire emblem slip up. Hopefully it is this year.

The lack of Animal Crossing probably means it won't be out this holiday which makes me very sad but I can understand that decision.

More than anything I think we are seeing Nintendo using a new approach for E3. They are pushing only the games available between now and the holiday season. Unfortunately in the case of their main conference that wasn't done very well.

The problem for us is that we already know and expect these titles. But it seems like Nintendo is aiming to communicate to more casual gamers with E3 and not us.

their strategy is becoming rather clear:

hey, these are the games that are being released
if you want the system, you may enjoy them
you should buy system now, not when we release our best of best

Western 3rd parties make handheld titles? Shocking.

Oh, so you're one of those people. Kay.

I'm interested in a lot of the games shown, but the thing is, they're spread so far apart. I'm going to burn through stuff quick and still end up starved for games. What's the deal? Why isn't there more 3rd party support?

Agreed. That shows some serious lack of understanding gamers' interests by their marketing guys.
Blame Fils-Aime.

Moffitt's title is Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, so any blunder on the marketing front would fall to him.

Of course, Reggie's responsible for overseeing him .. and Iwata over him ...

I didn't know so many people liked Animal Crossing.

GAF's community as a whole is pretty evenly divided between people who primarily play Nintendo consoles and barely play any others, and those who primarily don't play Nintendo consoles. This generation has probably exacerbating that since there are very few game overlaps between those groups. Nintendo fans on GAF roughly parallel Nintendo purchasers in general, and AC sells gazillions.

It's also worth noting that GAF's most prolific posters are pretty different from GAF's average member or reader. Any time we do site-wide voting on stuff, the result is a LOT more mainstream and closer to IGN poll results than if you just took a headcount of GAF's most common or even most respected posters.

This year feels like E3 2007 for Nintendo. Games announced the year before are coming this year.

Which could only mean ONE thing... Nintendo @ E3 2013 will mirror Nintendo E3 2008, replacing awkward Cammie with awkward Scott.
Oh god you're right

ONLY 363 DAYS UNTIL THE E3 2013 NINTENDO PRESS CONFERENCE! GET HYPED! :D

I think I'll be more interested in Nintendo Directs and any Japanese Nintendo events from now on. At least this year those forms of communication have produced far more interesting announcements than E3.
